BEEP, BEEP! I searched around with my eyes shut on the end table for the alarm, but couldn’t find it. I peeked through one groggy eye taking in my surroundings. Memories from the night before came flooding back. Ugh just what did I do last night?! Well I guess there’s no taking that back, but at least we used protection. Tripp was already awake and getting dressed in one of his form fitting suits that showed off every detail of him. It was enough to make any woman want to stare at him for hours.
“Wakey Wakey! Big conference today!” He declared while positioning his tie just right.
“Ugh.” I grumbled, still trying to wake up. I kicked the covers up and stumbled out of bed. I was a bit jealous how Tripp could be so wide awake in the morning, it takes me like half of the day to wake up. I somehow found my way back to Tripp’s room, I don’t remember when, but all of my clothes for the conference were hung neatly in the other bedroom. I had to do a naked walk of shame to that bedroom. This seems to be getting more common, but this time I at least don’t have to leave the hotel room.
I quickly got dressed and even put some makeup on. I don’t often put makeup on anymore, but I’m just so excited for the conference I wanted to look good. When you look good often times you feel good as well, it’s kind of a confidence boost of sorts. I finished up with my hair and slipped the heels on. I most likely will regret wearing heels today as I’m not really used to wearing them much anymore. I used to wear heels a lot when I was in my late teens and early twenties, but kind of stopped putting as much effort into my appearance. Right now I felt good though.
I trudged back over to Tripp, the heels were already proving to be difficult to walk in. "Let's get the show on the road!" I exclaimed excitedly, ready to finally get to the conference.
"Whoa there tiger, let's at least eat breakfast first. Room service should be here shortly."
“Ugggghhh!" I threw my hands up jokingly, like come on I'm ready to leave! I'm so excited.
"Don't steal my car keys while I take this call, gotta be sure my assistant is ready for the presentation." It seemed like Tripp switched his internal business switch and went from playful to serious as he made several phone calls to be sure everything was ready.
Room service had finally arrived so I munched away on scrambled eggs as I watched him yell into his phone. I was thankful he somehow knew my preference for eggs. Scrambled eggs are literally the only way I'll eat eggs, runny eggs are just too, well too weird textured for me I guess. I sipped the apple juice and greedily stuffed the bacon into my mouth, who can resist such amazing bacon though?! I guess plenty of people, but not me. If you put bacon in front of me there's a zero percent chance I won't eat it.
Oddly enough after making a huge deal about breakfast, Tripp just had a protein shake and off we went to the tech conference I had waited so long for and boy was it worth the wait! There were booths for next year's phones, computers, video games, VR headsets, and really just about anything you could imagine. It was paradise for a nerd like me. There in the center of it all, sitting like the crown jewel of the convention, was our company's set up. People swarmed around it to the point where you could barely see what they were fighting for a glimpse of. There were multiple items on display, but the two most popular items by far seemed to be the new line of smartphones and new line of laptops. The phones ranged from just a normal looking smartphone with all the bells and whistles to a dual screen phone and a flip phone. Although the dual screen and flip phones are really popular right now, most have been poorly executed so despite popularity they just weren't selling. Our company aims to be the first to truly take advantage of the popularity of the phones. People seemed really interested in how they worked, resulting in a bit of shoving grabbing at the phones. Security was close by in case of an incident.
On the other side of the booth, equally as popular though, were the new line of computers and laptops. One such popular laptop had a built in motion detector and was paired with two controllers and a VR headset. We teamed up with a popular VR company for that one, the idea was to make it wireless for more flexibility but build it into the laptop for less sensors and wires. Another popular laptop promised all of the specs and functionality but packed into a 1 inch thick laptop design. People were skeptical of that one due to the nature of thin gaming laptops over-general heat issues so people want to test to see how hot it gets. I myself was curious of most of the next gen products on display as I haven't even got to see most of them except the phones. Which reminds me, I still have to assist Tripp with his stockholders pitch.
"I can show you our lineup later if you want. I have a copy of everything at my house." Tripp must have noticed I was interested in the new items. "It's hard to tell, but see that mass of bodies over there? That's where the new gen gaming console is. I know you'll love it, I've even got a few beta versions of the games due to release on it next year." He pointed to the crowd where I could only assume the gaming console was.
"Wow! Really?!" My face lit up in excitement. " That would be awesome!"
Tripp put a hand on the small of my back and started guiding me away from the crowd. "We have a conference room reserved for the investors this way. Everything was an easy pitch except the phones. The hype is there, but in experience for other companies the profits aren't. We need to give one hell of a pitch."
"Uh okay." Finally the anxiety started setting in, I've never been great at speeches, he doesn't actually expect me to give a speech right? I didn't prepare one so hopefully not.
He seemed to read my mind. " I don't expect you to pitch any lines or anything. You're there as an engineer to assure the investors and as a pretty face."
As a woman in a male dominated field I don't know if I should be insulted or flattered. Seems like Tripp is using me as a pretty face to convince them to buy more stock, or on the flip side not drop the stock they currently have.
We finally came to a set of double doors, the loudness of the crowd was less audible here, Tripp opened the doors ushering me inside. "Ladies first."
I held back my tongue, I wanted to say then go right ahead! I honestly feel like I'm doing better with holding back the sass.
"There you are!" Clark, Tripp's assistant, rushed to greet us. I recognized a few other faces from work, VPs of various departments. I've never actually got to meet them and likewise I'm sure they're confused as to who I am. "Everything is set up and ready to go. The investors should be here in around ten minutes or so giving us a few minutes to prepare if needed." He turned to me. "Sera, please sit next to Kaylee. She's the Vice President of Sales and the gentleman next to her is the President of Sales, Richard. They are well aware that the engineering department currently doesn't have any upper management past director which is why you have been asked to join in. We have concluded the opinion of not only an average person, but also an engineer in the company should help."
"Nice to meet you!" I extended a hand to shake with Kaylee, who seemingly ignored it, Richard, however, was more than happy to shake my hand.
"It's a pleasure to meet you. It's not everyday we have a normal staff member join us at the round table."
Richard seemed very pleasant and easy going, however, I could feel Kaylee immediately didn't like me. I guess that's how it goes though, not everyone in life will like you no matter how nice you are to people.
I sat down in the chair next to Kaylee as Tripp began checking over everything to be sure we're ready. He stood at the end of the long conference desk. "Looks like we're ready."
