June visited the library from time to time to check up on me and each time she did, her face became visibly more concerned. In the matter of a few days, I managed to read multiple books on political science, technology, magic, and engineering. I tried initially to hide the books I was reading when she would visit and grab a book about fairy tales, but I genuinely stopped caring afterwards since she came by so often. I mean it really shouldn’t matter if she saw me like this right? What’s the worst that can happen? My famous last words.
Word got around about my frequent visits to the library and the books I would read. It went around enough to reach the ears of my horrid family members. As disinterested as my father was towards me, he was still amused by the idea of his timid five-year old daughter reading knowledge beyond her comprehension, so he thought it would be a welcome change to invite her to the imperial palace for breakfast. And so, I found myself waddling down the long red-carpeted corridors filled with red and gold decor. I woke up early and spent the entire morning being handled by my maids to prepare for this event, much to my dismay. I could understand why they fussed so much though, although I am the Emperor’s daughter, I never once received his attention, let alone affection, and this was the first time he took the initiative to meet me. It is a grand deal, the previous Mia would have been happy beyond words. But still, to wake up five hours early and prepare to have only a mere meal seems a bit excessive. I’m even dressed in one of my finer and extravagant dresses, and decked in jewelled braids on my head. I’m even wearing my royal tiara. Though it is a formal meeting between me and the Emperor, it’s still only going to be for breakfast. I kept my reservations to myself and powered through the dreadful morning. By the time I reached the palace with my entourage, June, my personal maid, and a butler, I was already famished. This better be the best damn breakfast I’ve ever had or I swear to God I will ruin him! I’m expecting gold and caviar on my toast!
The imperial palace was as grand as you’d expect, with its marble interior and grand ornate pillars, it was also filled with the national rose in tall vases at every corner. The national rose was a crimson rose with an almost black centre called the Alhambra. It was a majestic and prideful rose that was often paired with a grand gesture to do it justice, the more roses, the grander the gesture, and this palace was drowning in these roses. Dear father sure likes to be grandiose, as if his palace wasn’t enough. Where even if this dining hall?! We’ve been walking for 20 minutes, to think they are making a kid walk for this long in such uncomfortable clothes! Another minute or so later, we finally reached a grand entrance of the dining hall, the door almost reached the ceiling being 15 feet high and 10 feet wide. Imagine being the doorman who has to open and close this thing 3 times a day, he’d have to sell his soul to the devil to get such strength. The two knights waiting outside bowed in my presence and one of them waved his hand over the doorknob and a blue aura-like energy covered the door knob, after which the door swung open with ease. So that’s what magic looks like! I was intrigued at the ramifications of such a power and was lost in thought as I stared at the ajar door, until I was startled at the voice that sounded in front of me.
“Sit.” The powerful yet emotionless voice echoed through the room. Sitting down at the head of the dining table was the man I despise and that I am most wary of, my father, Armand. The imperial family genes were strong if you compared Mia with her father. Her father shared the same black glossy hair and blue eyes. He was certainly a beautiful person, like he jumped straight out of a fairy tale. His sharp features were the only thing that made him masculine yet his beauty was comparable to the most beautiful women. His hair was neatly swept back and his expressionless face made him seem all the more statuesque. He was wearing his more casual garments, a flowy white tunic and royal jacket worn over his shoulders. He’s irritatingly pretty… pretty arrogant that is! Look at his attitude! Commanding me like a dog! I curtsied and quietly sat at the seat furthest from him. Then, I waited. The man kept his hands crossed in thought and sat quietly at the table. I started to get nervous. What is he waiting for? I can’t eat until he takes the first bite? Is he mad I sat too far away from him? No it can’t be. He wouldn’t care where the hell I sit. Considering how he talked to me like I was a dog, I doubt he’d even care if I chose to eat on the floor like one. Then what is his problem?! Is he trying to test my patience?! I grew increasingly irritated, I preferred going through this whole ordeal without talking to him but his misplaced silence is making me impatient.
“Are you of good health today your Majesty?” I ask with a calm voice. His face remained stoic, like he didn’t me at all.
“Hmm.”
So you can’t even be bothered to say a single word!? “Is that so? I was worried that you may have lost your appetite because you have yet to touch your food.” Get the hint asshole, I’m hungry! He glances at me, then looks away, not responding. Why you little! You’re gonna ignore me now huh?! I was pissed beyond words to even continue trying to talk to him. If you don’t raise your fork soon, I swear I’ll shove the salad down your throat myself! As if the guards had heard my threat, the door of the dining hall opened once more. At the other side of the door, were four heavenly boys with striking blue and green eyes. No way… the whole royal cavalry of dogs are present!
