It was a snowy winter morning and Octavia, the young princess of Tirithill, slowly crept into her brother's room before immediately jumping onto her older brother's sleeping form in order to wake him up.
"Ollie! Ollie! It's snowing! Let's go play!" Octavia exclaimed in a cheery tone, excitement evident in her voice.
"Taviiii, it's too early to get up and go play. Go ask one of the servants to play with you." Oliver groaned, snuggling deeper into his blankets.
Octavia pouted. "But I wanna play with you! And the sun's up, so it's not too early! If you don't get up and play with me, I'm gonna tell mama and papa!" she declared in her most threatening tone.
Oliver grumbled a bit, but begrudgingly sat up in his bed. "Fine, but lemme get ready first, okay?" he muttered in a half-asleep tone, rubbing at his eyes a bit.
A bright grin crossed Octavia's face in response to what he said. "Yay! I'll go get my jacket on!" she cheered, quickly rushing off to her room again. Sighing, Oliver quickly got himself ready and waited for Octavia to join him by the entrance to their courtyard.
A few moments later, Octavia emerged from her room, practically bouncing around with excitement as she went to join Oliver at the entrance.
"Let's go! Let's go!" she cheerily exclaimed, still bouncing around.
"You still need to put your boots and scarf on." Oliver reminded her, grabbing the items and helping his sister put them on. "Okay, now we can go." he said with a smile once they both were ready. Sure, it took Octavia threatening to tell her parents on him to get him out of bed, but he had to admit he was excited to play in the snow. Making his sister happy was just a bonus.
As the two stepped out into the courtyard, Octavia stared at the snow covered landscape, a wide grin on her face and excitement glimmering in her eyes. She wasted no time in rushing out into the snow, practically dragging Oliver along with her. Though, Oliver didn't put up much of a fight, instead chuckling and going along with her.
"Let's go make a snowman! And then we can make snow angels!" Octavia exclaimed, still dragging Oliver along with her.
"Okay! But afterwards we go sledding, alright? I wanna go up on the big hill!" Oliver responded, grinning with excitement.
Octavia nodded in response. "Okay!"
Soon enough, the two were rolling out large spheres of snow for the snowman's body, with Octavia quickly running back into the castle to get some accessories for it.
"This is gonna be the best snowman ever! I just know it!" Octavia exclaimed, doing her best to push the large sphere of snow with the help of her brother, who nodded in agreement with what she had said.
Once, the two had managed to roll out and assemble the body, they began decorating, with Oliver lifting Octavia up in order to help her put the details on the snowman's face. It was a rather crude looking snowman, but in the minds of the two children, it was an absolute masterpiece.
"See? I told you it was gonna be the best snowman ever! Now, let's make some snow angels!" Octavia brightly exclaimed, before plopping down into the snow near the snowman and beginning to wave her arms and legs to make a snow angel. Giggling at his sister, Oliver soon did the same, plopping down right beside her. Though, once they had gotten up to look at their work, Octavia pouted a bit, her eyes becoming teary.
"No fair! Your snow angel is bigger than mine!"
"That's because I'm bigger than you silly." Oliver responded, sighing a bit, though a slight smile overtook his face. It seemed his little sister's antics amused him quite a bit.
"Oh, yeah? Well, I'm gonna eat all my veggies and grow bigger than you someday and then I'll have the best snow angels 'cause they'll be bigger than yours!" Octavia declared in a triumphant tone.
"Good luck with that, Tavi." Oliver responded with a giggle, playfully ruffling Octavia's hair. Octavia playfully stuck her tongue out at him in response, causing Oliver to burst into even more giggles.
"Okay, now that we did what you wanted to do, can we go sledding?" Oliver asked, excitement practically sparkling in his eyes. Octavia gleefully nodded in response
"Yeah! Let's go up on the big hill, too!"
"Okay!" Oliver exclaimed, getting his sled and heading over to the hill Octavia had mentioned. Octavia eagerly followed behind. Once the two made it to the hill, they were quick to set up, with Octavia sitting in front and Oliver sitting behind on the sled, in order to ensure she didn't fall off.
"Are you ready, Tavi?" Oliver asked in an excited tone, receiving a nod from his sister.
"Yeah!"
"Alright! Here we go!" Oliver exclaimed before pushing off, with the sled beginning to go down the hill, picking up speed as it went. Both kids hollered excitedly.
Upon reaching the bottom, Octavia immediately cheered "Again! Again!"
Giggling, the two went on the hill a few more times before deciding to turn their attention to building their own snow forts. Octavia's fort looked like a crude depiction of the castle, while Oliver's was a simple wall of snow. Though, Oliver was soon interrupted while taking in the sight of his fort by a snowball pelting him on the back. Turning, he saw a giggling Octavia, another snowball in her hand.
"Hey, no fair! You gotta wait for me to finish my fort before throwing snowballs!" Oliver exclaimed.
"Your fort looks plenty done to me!" Octavia responded, playfully sticking her tongue out at Oliver before chucking the snowball at him.
Oliver was able to dodge the snowball, scooping up some snow and making his own in the process. Quickly, he lobbed it at Octavia, with the two soon falling into a snowball fight, as kids do. Snow flew everywhere as the two hid behind their forts and anywhere else they could find, trying to stay out of the line of fire of their sibling while also trying to get the other into their line of fire. As the 'battle' went on, giggles and laughs could be heard as the two obviously were enjoying this time with each other and the opportunity to pelt the other with snow.
Though, after about half an hour, the two needed to stop and take a break, both of them being absolutely winded after their little fight as well as the other activities they had done beforehand. It was at this moment that their mother had found them out in the courtyard.
"Well, it seems you two have been busy having fun out here." their mother mused with a soft laugh, seeing the two covered with snow and grinning. Oliver and Octavia nodded in agreement with what their mother had said.
"Yeah! We were having a snowball fight! And I won! And we built the best snowman ever!" Octavia informed her mother, an excited grin on her face.
"Not true! I totally won the snowball fight!" Oliver playfully retorted, starting to clean the snow off of himself.
"Nu-uh! I'm the youngest, so I always win snowball fights by default!" Octavia shot back, playfully sticking her tongue out at her brother.
"Octavia, what have we said about sticking our tongues out at people?" Octavia's mother chided her.
"That it's not nice..." Octavia responded, a guilty look on her face.
"Yes. Remember, you have to act like a proper princess both inside and outside of the castle. One day you'll have your own kingdom to rule. And you, Oliver, need to act like a proper prince and future king. Now, I suggest you two come along. There's a warm breakfast and hot chocolate waiting for you two in the dining room after you go wash up. And after you two eat, we have a very important meeting that you both need to attend." their mother informed them, before heading back inside. Both children internally groaned before following after her.
A half hour later, both Oliver and Octavia were washed up and happily eating their breakfasts, Octavia's legs happily swinging in her seat as she ate. Both practically inhaled her food and the hot chocolate, their antics in the snow earlier making them cold and hungry.
Afterwards, they were quick to head off with their mother to greet the guests who were arriving for the meeting that they needed to attend. Though, having been worn out by their own earlier antics, the two were more focused on staying awake than the introductions their mother was giving them to the guests. However, there were two children around Oliver and Octavia's age with the guests who had arrived.
Regardless, the two didn't get to talk to the other children much as the group was soon heading off the the castle's meeting room. Bored out of their minds, Oliver and Octavia took a seat at the too tall meeting table as their father joined them and the guests. Not wanting to be impolite, the two children fought against falling asleep as the meeting dragged on, seeming to be a bit of a heated one. Though, they were still too tired to pay attention and understand what was really going on.
Soon enough, Octavia's attempt to fall asleep was interrupted by one of the guest's children poking her arm.
"Hey, do you and your brother wanna sneak away to go play in the snow with me and my brother?" the girl asked, grinning.
Octavia hesitated for a bit before speaking up. "I dunno... my mama said that this was an important meeting... and it's not nice to just leave a meeting to go play, even if they're boring. Besides, Ollie and I already played in the snow earlier."
"Awww, c'mon, my brother's so boring to play with! And the adults are arguing so much, they probably won't even know we're gone! It'll just be a few minutes! Pleaaaase? We can have our own snowball fight and totally beat the boys!"
Octavia practically lit up at that, all her hesitancy and tiredness forgotten. "Okay, then!"
