Sitting in science class, I clutched my pencil as he called me for the answer to one of his "test" questions. The whole class knew about his little test questions and how they're not going to be on the test or that he'll word it differently to the point where he'll see that we can't answer it correctly. I sighed heavily and began directing my eyes to the student sitting next to me, Caleb. He smile and looked at me, making the same face as the teacher. Yet the teacher still called me up to the board.
"Sh*t! you really aren't gonna to help a friend out Caleb," he waved at me as I approached the board. I'm never going to watch those online school hacks videos again. Especially the ones Caleb forces me to watch, what a buttface he is! So I walk up to the board, stall as much as possibly and have to see him after class( at least I didn't get detention like all the other kids who either refuse to do it or start bringing up matters not "school" related).
"If you do this one more time young lady, it will be a detention," He directed to me. I looked at the door, seeing Caleb taunt me for stalling again. I scrunched up my face and replied," yes sir, it won't happen again."
"Of course it won't, because I sending you to after school tutoring with Caleb every Wednesday until you can answer my questions correctly,"
"But teacher! Caleb, why him?!"
"No But's, he's passing my classes and not stalling when I ask him to the board,"
"That's because he's a teacher's pet," I grumbled as he gave me a slip for Wednesday tutoring session. Beatrice had to do tutor sessions for math every Tuesday, but not anymore because of her more "decent" grades she gets now. Now I'm stuck after school tomorrow with Caleb, he's the worst. And it's obvious he knows what was happening between me and the teacher because he said he'd be "happy" to be my tutored until I don't have to be embarrassed by the teacher anymore.
"So....," he began. He's walking by my side like a dog, but he's like a huge, smelly and stupid one. I try to walk faster to lunch but he keeps catching up with me.
"Caleb I don't like you ok! Stop bothering me, I ....," he stepped in front of me, blocking my path.
"I know that, but why haven't you at least been contacting me anymore? I mean it's not like what I did back at summer camp was the end of the world for ya....,"
"Well it was, I don't think I can ever forgive for that. I don't look forward to tutoring with you either, your like a pimple that won't pop Caleb. Just leave me alone,"
"Oh really, that's how you think of me....fine then Amber. All I did was try to help you, be your friend and this is how you repay me,"
"I didn't need your help with Jenny ok, is it so hard to stay out of other people's business!" I move pass him and walk faster towards the cafeteria. I look back to see him staring at me, those puppy dog eyes don't work on me. He really is a dog and I can't help but shiver at the thought that he's probably Jenny's puppet. I didn't want what happened at summer camp to end our friendship, but Jenny ruined that. Like how she tried to drift me and Bee apart, but it didn't work out for her. I turn back around one more time before I open the cafeteria doors, he's at his locker, putting in his code. I turn to go to him, he sees me and mouths, " You're right, I'll stop meddling you...." I mouth back,"No, don't stop, that's kinda what friends do..." He smiles as he finally opens his locker. I open the cafeteria doors, seeing the long lines at the bar. I see Bee talking to her friend (she shall not be named ).
She's laughing at her cat memes again as usually I guess, while I just stand there, contemplating what line to get in. Caleb decides for me as he's right behind me, pushing me towards the salad bar.
"You didn't think our conversation was over, did you?"
"No, I didn't. I'm sorry for being a jerk, it's just that...,"
"I understand, Bee kinda told me about your grandma and the Jenny incident. I'm sorry for prying, it's just that you don't tell me everything," He picks up a tray and grabs a salad box. I run to the regular lunch bar and grab a milk. By the time I get back, he's waiting for me. Laughing at what milk I grabbed. It was the one with holes in it and it spilled everywhere. He just kept right on laughing as the jointer handed me a mop and watched me clean the mess up too. I'm so glad no one noticed what I was doing, except Caleb.
"Good thing I grabbed two," I said as he handed me back my tray.
"Yeah, now what were you going to say before you left?"
"Oh yeah, I'm just going through a lot right now and remembering summer camp, well the bad aspects don't help Caleb. I'm sorry I thought you were with Jenny....,"
"Eww, who would want to be with a girl like her? Not me, that's for sure," I sighed with relief when he said that, I just didn't want to lose another friend to Jenny.
"Wanna sit at Bee's table with me?"
"Sorry Amber, but I must decline this offer for I must see with sir Thomas at his table with the stem kids today, maybe next time,"
"Why did you ever decide to be a theater kid Caleb?"
"Because I can, see ya Amber," I see Bee still talking to you know who and decide to sit across from them.
"Hey Amber, I didn't see you at the table yet. Usually you're the first one here,"
"Well Bee, guess who's stuck in tutoring with Caleb Wednesday?"
"It's not that bad Amber, I've done tutoring for a lot of kids before and I think it won't be bad,"
"Katie's right Amber, besides, I think he told me it was science class right?," Bee reads the slip in my hands and smiles. I grimaced at the fact that she still calls her "Katie" I also started in my mouth thinking about that.
"Yeah, it couldn't been worst, he would've out you in detention,"
"He said that Bee," Beatrice pulls out her phone and shows me what Caleb sent her, I'm astonished she understands his language because I don't think I could ever understand theater kid, they are a whole different breed. I rolled my eyes at his dog memes, they aren't as good as Beatrice and I know a good one when I see one. Bee shows me the poster he took a picture of, but I wasn't focused on the tutoring Wednesday announcements, I was fixated on the bold words above a vintage picture. And it said...."JOIN OUR WRITING CLUB THIS THURSDAY!" Next thing I know, Bee sends this to me and continue to in a daze about this writing club meeting. She makes a note of this when lunch is over and says, "Your joining the writing club huh?"
"Yes Bee, yes I am....,"
