Cameron woke up to the sound of her phone going off with the tone signaling that she was getting a call. Groaning a bit, she realized the ringtone was the one she had set for Norri. Sighing slightly, she answered.
"Hey, Cam!" Norri greeted in a bright and cheery tone.
"Norri... it's seven in the morning... why are you calling so early?"
"Oh, were you sleeping? Sorry... I can just call ya later, if you want."
"No, it's fine... I was gonna get up in half an hour, anyways." Cameron responded with a soft sigh, sitting up. "So, why did ya call?"
"Oh! Well, Jasper managed to get some tickets to go on a haunted hay ride and we were wondering if you'd like to go? It's at eight tonight and Jasper had gotten three just in case you wanted to go. We know you aren't the biggest fan of scary things, but we figured we'd at least ask."
"Oh, um, that actually sounds kinda fun... I'll have to ask my parents about it, though... hold on a sec. I'll see if they're up." Cameron responded before exiting her room and wandering the house, finding her parents in the kitchen.
"Hey, so, um, Norri and Jasper have tickets for a haunted hayride and were wondering if I could go... it's at eight and seems kinda fun." Cameron asked a bit hesitantly.
"Sure, Cam. Just make sure to wear something warm, alright? And call us when you get there." Cameron's father responded.
Cameron grinned and responded. "Will do." before getting back on the phone with Norri. "They said I could go."
"Awesome! We'll pick ya up at 7, so be ready! See ya then, Cam!" Norri responded, an enthusiastic tone on her voice.
"Yeah, see ya then, Norri." Cameron responded before ending the call, a huge smile plastered on her face.
Hours later, Cameron stood in front of her mirror, frowning a bit, wearing an off-shoulder long sleeved shirt, torn jeans, sneakers, and her hair up in a messy braid. She didn't bother wearing any makeup or contacts, instead just opting for a more casual look. After frowning at her reflection for a few more moments, she simply shrugged and headed downstairs.
"Alright, I'm gonna head out. I'll probably be home around nine or so." Cameron called out to her parents, grabbing a jacket.
"Okay, be safe! Tell Jasper and Norri we said hi! Love you!" Cameron's mother called out from the living room.
"Will do! Love you too!" Cameron responded before heading out. After exiting the house, Cameron spotted Jasper's truck and quickly hopped in the back. "Alright, let's get this show on the road!" she exclaimed, a bright smile on her face. Sure, she may not really like scary things, but she didn't want to turn down an outing with her friends because of it.
Laughing softly, Jasper began to head off, using the GPS built into the car to guide him to the place. Though, he also had the radio running, simply playing a number of old rock songs which him, Norri, and Cameron sang along to. They didn't have the best voices, but they were just having fun and enjoying each other's company.
Soon enough, Norri spoke up. "So, Cam. Real talk. Have you told your parents yet?"
"Told them what?" Cameron asked, trying to feign ignorance, but failing miserably.
"You know what. You can't hide your sexuality from them forever, you know."
Cameron sighed. "I know, it's just... I don't think they're ready to know yet. I keep trying to drop clues and see how they take it, but... I don't know if they're just oblivious or in denial, but they never seem to pick up on any of them. And they always go on these long rants about how children are being corrupted if they ever see a same sex couple on tv. I just don't think it's safe to just come right out and tell them just yet."
Jasper decided to chime in at this. "Well, we'll be here for you if you do tell them and they don't take it well, alright? If they end up kicking you out or something like that, I'm sure our dad wouldn't mind you staying over until you can find somewhere to go."
"Yeah! We aren't gonna leave our friend behind! We got your back, Cam!" Norri chimed in with a bright grin.
A slight smile and blush crossed Cameron's features. "Thanks, guys... I'll see about telling them tonight once I get back home."
"Alright. Tell us how it goes once ya do, yeah?" Norri asked, receiving a nod from Cameron in response. Norri grinned as Cameron nodded and a few seconds later, Jasper had pulled into the area where the hay ride was taking place.
Getting out of the car, Cameron called her parents to tell them she was at the place and the three handed in their tickets before hopping onto the cart that would take them on the ride.
"Luckily, with this one, the actors are only allowed to approach the cart and not grab anyone." Jasper informed the two with an excited smile.
"Good. I would've been a more freaked out than I already kinda am if they could grab me." Cameron responded with a slight, nervous laugh as the ride started up. As it did, Cameron subconsciously snuggled closer to Norri for some comfort.
The ride went along for a few moments before the first scare had come up, a person suddenly appearing with a chainsaw. Letting out a fearful squeak, Cameron huddled even closer to Norri, covering her eyes a bit. Norri comfortingly patted her friend on the back, just trying to help her nervousness a little.
"It's okay, Cam. Remember, these are actors and they aren't allowed to grab you , only approach the cart." she spoke in a soft, reassuring voice.
Nodding, Cameron managed to calm down and uncover her eyes, only to let out a soft, startled cry as the next scare came up. This time, it had been a bunch of zombies approaching the cart, surveying the three kids inside.
The ride would continue on like this, with Cameron calming down just before each scare and huddling close to Norri, at one point subconsciously grabbing her hand, and just trying to keep herself from getting overly scared. After about fifteen minutes, the hayride was over and with a sigh of relief, Cameron got off with Norri and Jasper, walking back to Jasper's car.
"Well, that was fun! You alright, Cam? Not too spooked from what happened?" Norri asked, a bit of a concerned look overtaking her features.
Cameron nodded in response. "Yeah, I'll be fine. Though, I'm probably going to need to watch a couple of comforting movies to help me sleep without any nightmares tonight." she responded with a soft laugh.
"Alright. Mind if Jasper and I come over to watch them with you, maybe even having a sleepover if it's alright with your parents?" Norri asked, a slight smile on her face.
"Sure. I was gonna ask if y'all could come over, anyways... I could kinda use a little bit of support if I'm gonna be telling my parents about my sexuality once I get home..." Cameron responded, a slight smile of her own coming across her face.
Soon enough, the three were all piled into Jasper's car and heading off to Cameron's house, all of them chatting excitedly about the ride. Sure, Cameron got a bit scared, but she still thought that it was fun, especially since she was able to hang out with her friends.
She also appreciated the fact that they were trying to keep her mind off of what was going to come once she got home. She was just glad her friends would be there to support her when she came out to her parents. Though, she was going to save coming out for after a movie or two with her friends.
Upon reaching her house, Cameron took a deep breath to calm herself before getting out of the car and entering the house with Jasper and Norri following behind.
"Hey, I brought Jasper and Norri since they wanted to stay the night. They already texted their dad and said it was fine as long as y'all are okay with it. We're just gonna watch some movies and camp out a bit in my room, if that's okay." Cameron said to her parents as she entered.
"That's fine honey. So, how was the hay ride?" Cameron's father asked, smiling.
"It was awesome. Though, it was pretty scary, so I ended up covering my eyes more often than not." Cameron responded with a soft laugh. Jasper and Norri also let out soft laughs and nodded in agreement.
"You should've seen her face when the real big axe wielding maniac guy started running at the cart." Norri added with a soft laugh. "Though, that made me jump as well, so I can't blame her."
"I know. If I hadn't known it was an actor, I would've jumped out of the cart and made a run for it." Jasper added in.
Cameron's parents let out their own soft laughs as they listened to the kids ramble on about the hay ride. "Well, we're glad you three had fun. I take it Cam invited you over in order to watch some comforting movies in order to calm her nerves from the hay ride? She's always been like that." Cameron's mother said, smiling at the three of them, obviously enjoying how close they all seemed. "Luckily she has a great guy like Jasper to be there for her when she gets scared, eh?"
All three kids tensed a bit at what Cameron's mother had said last. Cameron shot a nervous look towards Jasper and Norri, receiving encouraging nods from them, before taking a deep breath and turning back to her parents. "Actually, about that... there's something I need to tell you guys..."
