'I could finally meet people my age,' Ciel Aude Sinclair thought, grinning, as soon as he wakes up from his slumber.
Today marked Aude's coming of age ceremony. His mom has always appeased him with the idea of being allowed to fully access the 'academy', as she always calls it, by the age of 16.
"Aude, hurry up or you'll be late." Raziel's gentle voice came from the corner of his bed. Seeing the familiar black shadow, Aude greeted it with a smile as he jumps off.
"I feel like you are a handsome, elegant young man." he teased as he frolics his way to the closet. Glancing every now and then at the shadow following every step.
Growing up, Aude always have a thirst for belongingness despite Raziel's company. The academy's elders kept him in a secluded room in the academy, not allowing anyone to come in contact with him until he reaches the age of 16. For the coven's safety, they needed Ciel Aude Sinclair to get in touch with his witch side more. To prevent any emotional outbursts 'they', the coven's council, deemed it safe to privately nurture the child.
Deva Sinclair, Aude's mother, escaped from their coven the moment she gave birth to him. The coven is strict against mating with the other kind. Hybrids are frowned upon, especially the elitist who believes pure-blood witch generates the most positive energy.
The first thing Deva made sure to instill in Aude's young mind is that people might say bad things about him. Deva Sinclair always tells Aude people will always look at him differently because he's special. That all the negativity the stares radiate stems from fear.
"Something the matter, dear?" Raziel's cool voice whispered in Aude's right ear, turning it hot, sending shivers to his back.
'I'm still cursing as to why I have been more aware of his presence.' Aude pouted as he remembered that day he turned ten years old. He was having a tantrum to get his mom let him see the outside. Raziel tried to appease the child by teaching him how to 'astral travel'. So both of them could learn what outside looks like. Then he asked Aude to find a child the same age as him and 'imprint' so he could follow his day-to-day.
It was fun. Not until the kid started learning grown-up stuff. Because of that Aude was exposed to a lot of stuff such as 'sexy', 'hot', and that scandalous three-letter word. 'Makes me wonder if Raziel is as hot as his voice.' Aude thought proving that his innocence was no more thanks to that kid's experience.
'Ciel, he is a shadow! Stop fantasizing! But I hope. With my coming of age ceremony. I could help him so that I could finally see him.'
"Nervous? You're spacing out a lot today." This time, the black shadow appears in front of Aude, worried about the teen who's been staring at the white jumper he pulled out.
Aude chuckled nervously trying to forget the dirty thought forming in his mind. "Ciel Aude Sinclair, are you sure you're fine?" Raziel asks again in a mocking tone.
"What's your full name Raziel?" Aude asked, changing the subject, while trying to change in his party clothes.
"Raziel Leor Nox." He whispered into Aude's left ear. The teen rolled his eyes quite used with Raziel's mischievousness. Aude tried to hide that he was affected by the shadow man's cool sexy voice.
'Wait. No, not sexy. He is not sexy.'
"Such a pretty name." He stared at Raziel, trying to put up his best poker face.
Raziel's light laugh echoed in Aude's ear. But still, he noticed. I'm sure he did. I'm sorry Raziel I need to do this.
Aude breathed out, starting to start the very reason why keeps spacing out. 'Okay, snap out of it Ciel Aude Sinclair. No more distractions. Mind on the goal. On. The. Goal.'
"What are you doing Aude?" Raziel's voice revealed that he was shocked by the teen's actions. "I'm sorry Raz but. . ." Aude concentrated to pull all his energy within his core, closing it off from others. The teen is aware that Raziel uses his energy to form that dark form. And he knows for sure that he is ready to help his only friend to escape wherever he is despite the promise they made to wait till he is 18.
'He always gives me high praise about how special I am. I respect his concern for my safety. But I feel he is trapped somewhere. I couldn't forget the coldness the first time I touched him. He is alone, and even though he doesn't show it, I know that he is afraid.'
Aude, determined that now is the right time, clenched his fist as he proceed according to his plan. "What do you plan to do?" 'It's the first time I am hearing him sound angry.' Aude was taken aback by the harshness of his friend's voice, but he still did his best to concentrate.
"Aude stop." Raziel's voice evaporated into thin air as his shadow form vanished.
'It's weird for him not to be around. But I want to see him. I want to save him.'
*"My baby, finally" Deva Sinclair scooped her son into a hug as soon as he walked out of the huge double door that was usually off-limits to Aude. The teen laughed nervously as he looks around the room full of unfamiliar teens and adults wearing white for the occasion. All these people, Aude didn't know they existed until today. To think that they were just beyond that door. Aude's lip twitched as his thoughts turn dark.
"Baby, come on," Deva pulled her son who's still looking around, overwhelmed with the number of people he is seeing all at once.
As Deva makes her way through the crowd that's been congratulating them, Aude suddenly stops walking as they pass by a big window. Seeing it for the first time, the teen was in awe with the scenery. By reflex, he turned around to talk to Raziel, but paused, realizing he is not there like he always been.
Aude gently removed his mother's grip on his wrist to get a closer look outside the window. Who would've thought that all this time the entire academy is concealed by a body of water? It's not enough that the whole place was enchanted, but to actually submerge themselves into water. Looks like Aude and Deva were not the only ones who are in hiding.
'No wonder that every time we tried to astral project to the outside of my room or even the house that we are living in. We always end up in another place that's why I gave up. Raz convinced me to wait until my power aged because having him by my side was like using 50 percent of my energy. He did suggest I cut off connection, but I was afraid to astral project alone and enter the maze that shields the building. Like what if I end up far away without him, could I even go back to my body?' Aude wondered as he places his hand on the window pane trying to figure out the spells cast to this place, his fingertips tingling with the sensation.
"I see you like the view?" Kalhil interrupted Aude's concentration cutting off the connection he was forming with the spells. He approached Aude, handing him a celebratory wine. 'What I don't like here is the fact that they are so secretive. I guess he figured out what I was trying to do.' Aude tried to conceal his disappointment as he faces the coven's leader.
"Sir, I have a question."
"About being a witch?" Kalhil asked with a smirk. Both of them stared at the floor to ceiling window that shows the sea life outside.
"No sir. About a person, knowing that you've been here for a while have you met someone with the name of Raziel Leor Nox?" Aude asked while swirling the wine glass. Kahlil turned to Aude harshly that it made the teen drop hold of the glass. But before it hits the floor, it levitated to a console table that was against the wall in between the large windows.
Aude admired him for being so quick to cast spells with just a flick of his wrist.
"How did you know of this person?" He grasped both sides of the teen's shoulder making Aude face him with fear.
"S. . . sir?"
'So much from asking about Raziel. Was he banished?'
"ANSWER ME!" All the lively chatter was put into a halt when he shouted at me. "Kalhil?" Deva apparated beside the two, putting her hand on the leader's shoulder in an attempt to calm him, but was gently pushed aside with a simple raise of a brow from Kahlil.
'Such power,' Aude had goose bumps, intimidated by the immense display of energy in front of him.
"I talked to him. He's been, my friend. . .he is in shadow form. Always around me" Words fail Aude as he tries to explain. The teen glanced around and saw that all members of the coven were whispering to each other.
"W. . . . what? His mind is awake? Since when?? Why do I not. . . . CALL HIM!" Kahlil urged the child. His grip on Aude's shoulder tightens as he shows a desperate face.
"Please. It hurts."
The teen cried, making Kahlil get a hold with his temper. He stepped back trying to calm himself. "Go on," He encouraged as the desperation is now evident in his voice.
Aude closed his eyes, biting his lip as a tear escape his eye. 'Raziel?' he called out to him, leaking out some energy for him to use. 'I'm sorry please, please come out. I'm scared Raziel'
Tears continue to fall from the teen's eyes as he repeatedly called for his name in mind.
"You silly child." A black smoke slowly formed a human shadow, appearing beside Kalhil.
"He is beside you. Can't you see?" Aude's voice was low, but it was the only thing that could be heard in the room.
Kalhil looked around, but seems to see nothing. "Are you lying to me?!"
"Such an impatient child." Raziel commented with a sound of amusement.
'So, they know each other?' Aude's heart felt heavy with the thought. "Aude, my dear, channel your energy to him" I know what he wants me to do, but a part of me doesn't want to show my only friend to him. Now that I know they are familiar.
Aude walked towards Sir Kalhil and placed his hand on the leader's left arm. He gasped and was about to retaliate, but figured what the teen was trying to do.
Both held each other's hands as he channels the teen's energy.
"Now, don't bully the poor lad, my dear Kahlil. Hurry and stop channeling before he bleeds again."
Kahlil gasped in surprise but still did as was told. Letting go of the teen's hand as fast as he could, he took a step back with tears in his eyes. Kahlil suddenly knelt down, making all of the witches kneel along with him. "Master Raziel, welcome back".
The whole room echoed as all of them were in bliss. Something Aude can't relate to. He sneaked a glimpse of his mother, but she was kneeling and in awe as the most of them are.
"After the coming of age ceremony. You must come with me. It's time for all of you to see him."
