After that scare, I had asked the person who I assumed was called Zoe, based off of the book cover to take me home. I had found blood and bodies everywhere. The aliens were helping clean up robot parts, as well as their own kind. For all the dead, we would have a mass funeral and there would be a memorial for them on every continent of the earth. The fairy queen had business to attend to, so she left me to help out. 3 of her dragons were helping out around the world, only the purple and black one was missing. They left with the fairy queen. I was left helping clean up and rebuild. Everyone did their part. Though, after only two months, people were running low on food.
As the person who was voted to be the leader of the reconstruction, It was my job to find a way to feed all those mouths. All the agriculture and animals were killed except for some of the ones that made it underground. I took the key that I still had from the fairy queen out. I looked at it. The fairy queen had managed to keep her people fed. Dimensional gaps didn’t even have sunlight, right? So where did the electricity come from? I had to ask her. I just didn’t know how to contact her. Then, something peculiar happened. I heard her voice in my head.
“What do you need this time?” She asked. What was going on, was she really in my head? I looked around. I didn’t see her anywhere. “Oh, god, pick up the key kid,” she said. That’s when I realised that I had dropped it.
“How are you doing that?” I asked, staring at the key.
“It’s a power of mine. If you are holding a piece of my body, then I can hear your thoughts and offer guidance to you. I can also do that anyway, but that’s how you contact me, sorry if I didn’t tell you, you were very adamant about going home,” she said.
“Uh, I was wondering if you knew how I could feed my people. I was a little curious, i dunno, because WE’RE ALL STARVING!!!” I yelled at the key.
“You know, you don’t have to talk, I said I can hear your thoughts, here how about I help you. Have you ever used a key before?” She asked
“Yes,” I replied.
“Do that, but in air, then go through the portal. Make sure that the key is still touching your skin or you’ll die when you touch it,” she instructed.
“Ok I can do this,” I thought, with a little bit of doubt. Knowing that she was listening to all my thoughts was a little weird. I bet she was even listening to that. It was an odd feeling for sure. I did as I was instructed. The portal opened. I went through. It went to the huge colorful room with the hallways leading to the libraries.
“Go to the library i brought you to earlier,” Zoe’s voice said.
“Really? How will that help? Aren’t those all fantasy books?” I thought, hating that she knew exactly what I was thinking. Zoe luckily kept quiet about my doubts.
“Ask Karin to take you to the “Into The Galaxy,” seres.
“Uh… Karin, can you please take me to ‘Into The Galaxy,’ series?” I asked the floor.
The floor under my feet rose. It landed on the same landing pad as before. An unknown superhero was waiting. “This way please,” He said. He looked like the blue masked dragon, but in human form and was wearing clothes. It led me to the same series as the fairy queen had. “Here is the series you were looking for. Also, thanks for saying please, most people don’t do that.”
“Alright, now you should see a keyhole under the seres. Use your key on it. A portal will appear. Make sure you’re touching the key, then go through it.” Zoe instructed.
“Oh gee, another portal. Great.” I thought with the paranoia of knowing she was listening. I did as I was told. There was another library, but it was much smaller. It had four statues of various robots that I had never seen, but one of them looked sort of like a speedboat. The statues were all on a single pedestal. In that pedestal was a book.
“Now, in the pedestal underneath the statues in the middle of the library, there is a book. It will give you clues on problems i assume you will face in the future. This includes the food problem you are currently facing. New pages will be unlocked with time. Now i have other people to deal with, ask Karin if you need any more help please, Zoe out.”
I looked i n the book. Only one page was opening. It read “The leader takes the rises and falls, but the text holds the key to salvation.” What an odd sentence. The text holds the key huh, maybe there were new pages unlocked in my book?
“Hey, uh Karin, how do I get back out of here? The portal disappeared,” I asked the ceiling.
“Press the button on the wall. However, that book is not allowed to leave this library. The books in the main libraries are not allowed to leave this dimensional gap, unless you are given explicit permission for either of those,” said Karin.
“Ohm sorry, I didn’t know…” I quickly apologised, putting the book where I last found it. “Oh, uh, Karin, what are the rest of the books here?”
“They are guides. Guides to your universe’s magic, genetics, physics, etcetera. Anything you could ever possibly know how to do is in these texts. There are even texts about things you probably wouldn’t want to know or do here. The ones that say ‘MC guide’ can only be read by you or other main characters,” The AI informed me.
“Oh, thanks Karin!” I pressed the red button next to the… portal frame, I guess and walked through the portal holding my key. I then opened the first book in my series, a few more pages flopped open. I read them. The human slaves were starving, just like my people were. In the book, I had found the other generals who also became robots. We figured out that we could each manipulate atoms and molecules. We all made food and secretly brought it to the humans who were hungry. Some were sold off alone, they probably died, but we protected who we could. We also found out from the robotic parts we had come across that they collectively decided to make us into parts. They all have kind of a collective unconscious. They had to vote unanimously to make someone who died into a part. For some reason, we all became full robots. The whole thing started with one part, and the parts kept growing in mass, turning the dead into special parts. Was that how we could save the humans? We had to turn one of the generals into a robot by killing them? I didn’t have too much time to decide, I decided that I would take the chance myself, but in case I didn’t make it, I would have to give the world my dying wishes. I had to prepare everyone in case I didn’t come back. I had to go.
I put the book back on the shelf and asked Karin how to go back home. She said to just use the key the same way I had to get here. She also gave me a word of advice to not hold onto the key when I didn't need Zoe, wasn’t making a portal, or wasn’t going through the portal, it was an annoyance to her.
When I got back to my office, I called for a general meeting. When al, of the generals who had led the robot armies, the leaders of teams B, C, and D got to my office, I spoke very fast. All three of the generals objected to my sacrifice. They said that I was needed by humanity. In the end, I still wouldn’t let them be the sacrifices. We kept arguing until the leader of team D pulled out a dagger from a holster on his side and stabbed himself through the heart. Almost immediately, his body started to morph into a robot. It was supposed to take almost a week for him to wake up. We didn't have that time. I took the fairy queen’s key out of my pocket, I only had one question on my mind. I was wondering if and how I could wake him up sooner. Even though I just lost a dear friend, I had little time to grieve.
“Please wait, currently, Zoe is busy with something else, Hold onto the key, I will tell you when Zoe is available to converse with you,” was the message swirling in my head. How long was she going to take? Would mankind be able to survive starvation?
