With our newfound skills, we headed back to the dropship in our universe as time resumed. Now, we had more insight on the two top alien species. They really didn’t get along well. No wonder they were at war. Still, if they kept fighting, it was likely that the fairies would stop the war and rebirth the galaxy again. We would have to stop the war… but with humanity’s level of expertise, it would be impossible. We would need friends from higher species-if not the two apex species themselves- in order to halt the war. Then, we would have to find a compromise of all the different species so that they wouldn’t start fighting again. Oh boy, this was going to be interesting.
When we got back to earth, there seemed to be some fighting. There was an angry crowd outside of the dropship. There were law enforcement officers holding them back as they tried to push through to get to us. The three earth leaders descended the ramp as the officers made a failed attempt to open a path.
“What’s going on?” I asked one of the officers.
“They don’t think that we should be led by a buncha kids,” she replied, “you should get inside.”
I loudly cleared my throat, silencing the crowd. “Everyone, I understand that you are upset, hungry, and thirsty. I understand that you feel having kids leads you is weird, that we may cost you all of your lives, be out I need to remind you that we kids led a war against aliens and won. We kids negotiated peace with those same aliens. We kids brought food to the earth. We kids are having quite some success saving you. If you have any complaints, please, formally ask for an audience. There are many things we still have to do to save humanity keep that in mind,” I yelled.
With that, I walked towards my office building, and the crowd parted. Murphy and Alaina scrambled to follow. There wasn’t another sound until that afternoon, when there came a knock on my office door.
“Come in,” I said.
My secretary, Barnie, walked in with a clipboard in his hand. “Uh, Alise, the people from before request an audience with you and the other three leaders of earth. They want to see you as soon as possible.”
“Well,” I sighed, “let’s calm down the tension for today, put it on the docket for tomorrow between nine to noon please, and make sure that Murphy and Alaina know too. We’ll meet in the ruins of the amphitheater. Got all that?”
“Yes, do you need anything else before I head home?” He asked.
“No, thank you though, I’ve got a lot to do, but don’t we all,” I stated.
“You’ve been working so hard, how can anyone be so ungrateful? Would you mind if I come to the meeting with the rioters tomorrow too?” asked Barnie.
“I don’t mind, but I would prefer you tried to keep quiet, if you could,” I suggested. Barnie nodded and turned to leave, “Say hello to the wife and daughter for me,” I called after him.
Not long after, the clock reached 9:00 P.M. Before we left the dropship, one of the chimeras pressed a device into my hand, and told me to be ready for their call at nine. Guess this was the time. I took the device and set it on the desk, then looked at it for a second, it was circular with a button in the middle. When no sound came out by 9:01, I decided to press the button. The device projected a hologram of a Chimera that looked like a serpent with fur. “You’re late,” said the Chimera in disgust.
“I didn’t know how to turn it on,” I said truthfully.
“Dumb monkeys,” snarled the serpent.
“Sorry,” I replied, trying to sound embarrassed.
“Anyway, to get to the point, I am the Chimera put in charge of humans. You follow my orders. Every Friday, you will make a report directly to me on how the rebuilding of earth is coming. It will be from nine o’clock onwards in the time zone you are in right now, even if you change time zones. Bob out,” the hologram disappeared. Oh boy. This was going to be quite interesting.
That night, I worked on cleaning uo matters that needed to get done, but I wasn’t on earth to take care of. I woke up with a knock on my door. “Come in,” I said, as I looked at the clock. It was eight forty-five,
“Alise, you have fifteen minutes before you have to meet the rioters. Also, how much sleep did you get last night?” asked Barnie.
“Not much. I should probably go clean up, see you in the amphitheatre,” I said as I picked up the hologram device. Barnie followed me out.
I headed to my tent outside and brushed my hair, putting it in a tight bun. Then, I changed clothes and got a piece of stale bread and some water from the food tent. As I ate my toast, I headed to the ruins of the ampitheatre, making sure I had the hologram device and the fairy queen’s key0 with me.
The rioters, Alaine, Murphy, and Barnie were all waiting for me when I got to the ruins. As soon as they saw me, the rioters rushed over and started all yelling in my face. Maybe this was what it was like to be a celebrity, now i kinda felt sorry for them.
“Everyone, please! I arranged this meeting so I could hear what you have to say! Right now I can’t!” This caused some of the people to start replying my message to everyone else, and soon, everyone had quieted down. “Thank you, now, what seems to be the problem folks?”
“Alise, you’re too young to lead us. You’re just a kid. An adult who understands how things work should take over. You don’t have enough experience in life,” said a man behind me. Everyone started shouting “Yeah,” and “What he said,” as I raised my hands flr silence.
“So the problem is that I don’t have enough experience in life?” I asked. The chatter started again, “Because of it,” I yelled over the crowd, “Keep in mind that I very nearly died on that battlefield. I was saved by someone who has been mentoring me ever since that day and she has been alive for trillions of years!” I paused, feeling my anger rising, “My only goal is humanity’s survival. For you all to be happy. If I need help, I have a person who has trillions of years of life experience. Do any of you have that?”
There was silence. After what seemed like an eternity, a woman spoke up. “Then let this person lead. Let this person advise an adult leader,” there were shouts of agreement.
“Not. A. Chance.” Yelled a voice from above.
The whole crowd turned to see the speaker. Here was silence. On one of the standing pillars, there was the silhouette of a humanoid, winged creature with a horn. After only a moment, the creature jumped off the pillar, allowing us to see her features, it was the fairy queen.
“Looks like I’m right on time,” she said, leaping into the air and diving towards me, catching herself at the last second and then setting herself down gently. “If you are going to remove her from power, J refuses to help humanity. And believe me, without me, you would all be dead, or enslaved and starving, and you know what? The only reason you would have still survived, and not died of starvation would be because she brings you food. Soon a great peril will befall you humans, and only me, and her,” She gestured towards me, “will be able to save you, and without her, I will not help. She is the only reason you are all still free. She is the only reason there are more than a mere two thousand humans left in this universe. If you want to doom yourselves, feel free, but you will receive nothing else from me. I may be half human, but I will not hesitate to let humanity go extinct in this universe. Any other complaints?”
There was silence, and slowly, the amphitheatre cleared out. Everyone knew that Zoe never told lies. When I was recovering in HQ, Zoe had come and explained who she was to earth, as well as make the Chimeras help earth. I sincerely hoped that this issue would never come up again.
