“So nice to meet you all.” I stated the day after the last ambassador arrived.
There were gretings mumbled at me. Most of the ambassadors looked nervous, especially the ones from the slave speces.
“In case you didn’t know, you’re here as ambassadors for your species. If something happens and you need assistance, report to me. If you want to help with certain projects, report to me. If you have advice or worries for you or your people, report to me. You will keep in touch with your people and convey any information that you deem neccecairy directly to me. Got it?” I asked. There were mumbled agreements. “Great. First order of buisness, as ambassadors, you must treat each other equally while you are here. Understood?” More mumbled agreements. The Chimeran ambassador seemed to sneer at this idea, but said nothing. “You will each get your own room. We have very few actual buildings, but we will let you use them, seeing as you are all our esteemed guests. We will be sure that you are all guarded properly. If you need anything, come see me. Other than that, you’re dismissed.” Everyone left the room single file except for the Chimeran ambassador and one of the slave ambassadors.
“Do you need anything?” I asked the Chimeran ambassador.
She slammed her fist on the table, “why do we have to treat these… these… weaklings equally?! We conquered them fair and square!”
“Calm down. For us humans, who got lucky, being saved by the fairy queen, we would have been like them. We would have become slaves, fighting for our lives back. We would have gone extinct because we fought back within mere years. We sympathize with them. This is also in your best interests. They can be a useful asset to you, making you more valuable to us. If they want to work for you, it is highly likely that they will work harder. If they are well fed, they can do more. If they are dehydrated and starving, they will not live up to their potential. They can become useful to both you and I,” I said, “Is that all?”
“Yes,” she sneered, standing up and stomping out.
“I was wondering… are you really trying to help us, or are you trying to use us for something?” asked the slave ambassador.
“Listen, we would both be on the same boat if it weren’t for the fairy queen. My people would be enslaved. My people would be starving, dehydrated, and dying. Humans have sympathy for others, especially when we almost became the same thing. We truly want to help you, but in return, we ask for your loyalty. Can you help us accomplish that goal?” I asked.
“I will do everything I can,” said the ambassador. A fact I forgot to mention is that over the years, I had learned Chimeran, and all the slave and client species spoke Chimeran as well. Most humans were also fluent in Chimeran, so we could talk to any species in the Chimera Coallition, as well as other humans of different nationalities with little difficulty.
The other ambassadors eventually came to me over the next month, and we started to train some of each of the different species for fleet service, a whole bunch of them opted into that department and made up for humanity’s lack in numbers. We also got a few more direct clients who were stuck on their own worlds and somewhat worshipped us like gods. In the next five years, we had over fourty direct client species, who all learned Chimeran. Mankind was also gaining territory and had made it to one of the higher ends of the fourth tier species. That’s when we got paid a visit from an ambassador from the Scihmet Coallition. One day, out of the blue, aship appeared above earth.
I hurried over to the communications department. “Have they sent any messages?” I asked. It wasn’t hard for the lead officer to tell who I was referring to.
“They want to land so they can ‘speak to our leader,’” He made air quotes with his fingers.
“Let them land. Tell them I will meet them at the shop and only two of them are allowed to leave the ship when they land. Put them on a landing pad near the comms station,” I ordered.
“Got it,” He confirmed, shouting orders to a senior cadet as I left the building. I went to see the ambassadors from mankind’s client species and their client species. They seemed to be trying to leave the building. All the hallways were crammed. I went to the speaker room.
“This is Alise. The situation is being handled. Stay calm. No harm will find you as long as I have something to say about it. Have faith in your patrons, any ambassadorsfrom direct human clients, please head towards the landing pad the ship is headed to. Non-direct clients, please head back to your rooms, ” without a moment’s hesitation, I headed to where the giant ship was landing. It was definitely a fifth-tier ship.
The ship landed and an airlock opened as I approached. Whaddaya know, Zero was the one stepping out of the airlock with a guard.
“Zero. What are you here for? Negotiating with such low-tech species as ourselves? How far you’ve fallen, I thought you had at least a small sense of pride,” I sneered at the prideful cat.
“When we were at the fairy queen’s territory, I allowed you to call me that, as it was an order from the fairy queen herself, you may no longer shorten my name, human,” she said with disdain, “I am here on behalf of the Scihmet Conglomorate-“
“And I and here on behalf of myself. You, little kitty, will obey her as your MC, or I, Zoe Makenzy O’Bryan, will break your bones one by one. You got that? Now, this only affects you. But your species. I’m sure that you two can make an alliance, but they will not become your clients, and I will not allow you to harm them because of this. So go back into the hole you crawled out of and deliver my message. Got that, Kid?” Said a familiar voice from behind me.
