Humanity started to rebuild yet again. We spent about five years to get a basic settlement and fields of crops. We found a pair of horses while scavenging. They dramatically increased our food production and the female had a pair of twins, as she was already pregnant. The twins were both now three years old. They were working as well. Cerberus was beginning to help as well. Most of my days were spent heavy lifting and training Cerberus. It was also getting the hang of working with humans as well. Today, I was approached by the fairy queen again.
“I see you humans need some help,” she said, speaking to the crowd.
“I don’t suppose that you would be willing to help us?” I asked.
“I already have. I gave you a creature with immense strength and a hint on how to get your people back. I thought Alaine saw the dove near Cerberus’s egg,” She replies, turning to face me. “Also, why are you wasting your time rebuilding on such a bad planet?”
“We don’t have any starships,” I replied flatly.
“You kind of do.”
“No, we kind of don’t.”
“Are you seriously stupid?”
“If you’re talking about our living robot parts, we don’t have many. They were taken by the Scihmets.”
“Do you really think that I would give you something so useless as a dragon if it couldn’t take you through space?”
“Wait, what?” Zoe took my arm.
“Okay, we need to have a little chit-chat,” said Zoe, gritting her teeth. “And Cerberus and I also need to have a little chat,” she walked over to the dragon and put her and on it’s claw. A huge portal opened in front of us. She led both of us through it.
The lobby looked a lot different than when I had last seen it. It looked high-tech. It was mostly gray, but had green lights around the room. It seemed to have gotten bigger and had a bunch of what looked like a hanger bay on one of humanity’s higher-end Star Carrier ships. There were groups of people working in each of them on different items. I saw a dragon or unicorn here or there as well. The floor beneath me started to float. By now, Zoe had stopped holding my arm and Cerberus’s claw. We were all carried to another large room with huge training dummies, dragons, and zombots dressed in lab coats and holding clipboards. They were watching various dragons of various sizes as they blasted dummies and demonstrated various other powers. There were also zombots dressed in military uniforms coaching the dragons. The floor we were floating on settled onto the ground and faded into the floor that was already there. No seams anywhere.
“Now, a Zombot will be here soon, follow her instructions and pay attention to what she tells you. Got it?” Asked Zoe.
“Got it. Did you have something to say to me? You said we needed to chat.” I asked.
“We do, I will talk to you through Karin. She will have the zombot convey anything I need to say, but for now, I need to go. My power is needed for something in another universe. Bye.” She replied, waving to me as she opened a portal and jumped into it.
Immediately, a Zombot showed up. She was wearing a lab coat and had long blonde hair. She also had bangs covering one eye.
“Alise, I think you should go to the library. There may have been some problems with Cerberus that we didn’t detect in her egg before we sent her off. We will be checking every aspect of her to make sure she isn’t sick or having any functional problems,” suggested the Zombot, “I, Maddie O’Bryan, will take good care of Cerberus while she’s here.”
I did as I was told. I went to the library and caught up on my book. What was meant to happen to me was that one day, the Chamhurs went on a killing streak and ended up killing every human being still alive. I went on a rampage and got captured buy the Scihmets, with them hoping to dissect me and use me as a weapon to kill Chamhurs. I couldn’t read past that point. It must all be in the future then. Both senior species were ruthless jerks and I really hoped that I would never have to work with either of them. After I finished, I went into my universe’s library and thought about the dove. It was supposed to be a sign of peace, right? But a peace with whom? The senior species? That was a curiosity for another day. I opened up my oracle.
The three sins, Pride, Wrath, and Envy
must band together or no future there will be.
A beast, bigger than you believe will come.
You must be ready or rely on the help of other galaxies.
That was foreboding. I remembered the words I had read in a book in this very same library. The Scihmets were prideful, always thinking they were the best. The Chamhurs were aggressive, always lost in their boundless hate, and humanity was always so envious of the senior species that we tried to become them. That is what cost us our families and everything we built. We had to find our own way. But then there was the problem of the beast. What was it? How could we prepare if we didn’t even know what we were dealing with?
I decided to go back and check on Cerberus. She was gone. Maddie was there though. I decided to talk to her. I bumped into something that felt scaly. I saw my hand disappear. The rest of me was gone too. The Zombot reached down, holding out a hand. I tried to take it but missed. Then she reached down and grabbed my invisible hand, hauling me into my feet as my hand returned to being visible.
“She has vocal cord damage, that’s why she wasn’t able to speak. That’ll be fixed though, as for you, she can make anything survive in space so long as it’s touching her. She can also become invisible to sensors and make anything she’s touching invisible too. She has other powers, but I want you to find them out for yourself. She should be fixed now.” Cerberus became visable again.
“Thanks,” I said as the floor beneath our feet began to float, “Bye!”
