Maki ran as fast as she could through the shadows. Her cover has been blown. She'll never be able to come back. It'll be too much risk.
What about Amanda? The thought crushed her. Maybe she didn’t have to leave. maybe she was lucky. Maybe she could risk it for her only friend.
What if Amanda came with her? She still has her mom. She wouldn’t leave without her mom. Maki bit her lip. She was rambling in her head. Something she hadn’t done since she was little.
Maki let out a shaking breath. Whatever choice she chooses to do would be risky. The Bounty Hunter already knew she was here.
Maki hopped onto a flat house roof and laid on her back, looking up to the star filled sky. It’s been awhile since she had a calming night to herself.
She slowly closed her eyes and next thing she knew, there was a blast and something hooked around her ankle, pulling her off the roof.
Maki yelled in surprise and tried to land on her feet. She was pulled on as she landed and her foot jerked into the air. Maki lost her balance and fell to the ground with a groan. Pain surged up her spin. She was practically stunned to the ground.
"I can bring you in warm, or I can bring you in cold." A familiar voice said.
Maki looked up to see the Mandalorian aiming a blaster to her face. She glared at the bounty hunter. He found her already?! It's only been a few minutes!
Maki looked away, wishing she had a smoke bomb right now. "I'd rather you kill me." the girl said.
"Why is that?" The Bounty Hunter asked.
"No one knows who I really am, so what's the point in living if I'm caught. No one will care." Maki looked up at the Mandalorian. "Kill me."
The Mandalorian paused. "Get up."
"No! Kill me already!" Maki yelled. Tears started gathering in her eyes. "It's for the best. I've done terrible things-"
"Get. Up." The bounty hunter interrupted her.
"Why won't you kill me?!" Maki stood up. "Shoot me with the blaster, choke me to death, do it! I have...nothing to live for…" the last sentence that came out of her mouth hit her hard. She was right. No one wanted her. No one would care. Well, except for one person.
"I'm not going to kill you, but you better come with me." The bounty hunter said slowly. His voice was calm and accepting.
"Why?" Maki asked. "Leave me alone if you're not going kill me." She glared, pulling back tears.
The Mandalorian sighed and put his blaster away in a leather holding on his thigh. Then, he grabbed onto Maki's upper arm. "Let's go."
"Hey!" Maki pulled back, unable to get out of the Mandalorian’s grip. "Let go of me!" she hissed.
She was practically dragged all the way to his ship. He was quiet as Maki continued to refuse him.
"I am not going into your stupid ship." Maki hissed.
"Shut up already, would you?" The Mandalorian stopped and pulled her closer, eyeing her masked face. "You're going to make me regret keeping you alive."
"G-good." Maki replied, stuttering a bit. She didn't expect that kind of response from him.
He led her into the large ship where he sat her down behind him in the control room. Maki looked around at all the switches, buttons, and levers.
“Ah-wa.” She heard another small voice, it almost sounded like a baby.
“What’s that?” she asked, looking around. As the ship started to take off, the Mandalorian picked up a small green baby from the floor. It was wrapped in twine clothing and had long ears.
“What is that?” Maki asked again, leaning closer.
“Tell me your real name and I’ll give you information.” the bounty hunter held the baby close and turned away. The baby squealed in delight.
“Fine, I never cared anyway.” the girl crossed her arms in her seat, looking out of the window. I’m sorry Amanda. She thought to herself as she watched her planet get smaller. I said I would never leave you but here I am now, being forced to leave you behind. Maki sighed. I will remember you always, my friend.
The Mandalorian held the child closer to him as he steered the ship off the planet. He glanced behind as the girl behind him sighed. He felt a tad bad for taking her away from her planet. There must be something wrong with her. No one he targeted had ever asked to be killed. The bounty hunter didn’t know whether to turn her in or not. She must have been miserable. Mando mentally sighed and looked down at the child in his arms.
“Wa-haba!” The green baby chanted. Under his helmet, the Mandalorian smiled. At least he had the little green munchkin with him. He wondered if the girl had anyone with her. She was a mystery he was willing to solve while looking for the child’s home planet.
Mando clicked a button and the ship went into hyperspace. He looked behind him, checking up on the girl again. She was looking through her bag.
“What’re you looking for?” he asked.
“None of your business.” she said with a cold tone. Mando paused, then turned away with a sigh. Maybe it was a bad idea to keep her alive. The attitude was not cutting it for him.
“Ah-ba!” the child reached for the loose ball on one of the ship levers. Mando couldn’t help but smile as he screwed the ball off the lever and handed it to the child in his arms. “Hmm-aww.” the green baby hummed and held the ball tightly. The Mandalorian sighed and tightened his grip on the baby. The child wasn’t going to be the only handful he had anymore.
