~~Again, sorry this chapter is just a bucket of word vomit, but I hope you all enjoy!~~
~~Blaze's POV~~
After a visible inhale and exhale, Headmistress spoke in a calm and quiet airy voice that made the room’s ambience heavier almost.
“Nova, you come from the White family. The White’s were a prominent family for thousands of years until the early 1800s. In 1821, Draco White was born to Corvus White and Lyra Astrella-White. Corvus was understandably upset at the knowledge of Lyra’s pregnancy. All his life, he was told by doctors that he was infertile due to a birth defect. He had put aside his sorrows and found hope that maybe Fate was kind to him just this one time. Corvus became even more excited for the prospect of a child when Lyra told him the doctors had said she was going to have a boy.”
Headmistress seemed to gather her thoughts. Her eyes swimming with fear. Or maybe I was reading her emotions wrong.
“When Draco was born… Sorry,” She closed her eyes, her hands tightening in fists before she relaxed them and opened her eyes.
“When Draco was born, Corvus immediately was ecstatic,” She smiled sadly. “Draco was a healthy and heavy boy. He had bright blue eyes that were light as a spring sky. Corvus didn’t think this was a big deal at first. He was blinded by his happiness at being a father. It was until later, when Draco was nearing a year old, that Corvus started to have suspicions.
“Lyra’s brother, Marcus Astrella, was always around. He would bring gifts from his travels or come over for dinner often. This wasn’t too strange for Corvus as his family often brought gifts and met for dinner weekly. However, Corvus would notice that Marcus spent a large amount of time in quiet spaces with Lyra, oftentimes separating from his own sister when Corvus entered the room.
“Once Draco had grown into being a healthy, adventurous toddler, Corvus knew. His suspicions were confirmed. Draco’s eyes were like ice spikes into Corvus’ heart every time the boy would look up at his supposed father. Draco’s hair was kept long as it was too thin and fragile to cut. Lyra loved her son’s hair as it was soft as silk and white as snow. That is when Corvus knew. The hair and eyes of his ‘son’ were identical to the man who would spend secretive hours with Lyra. Marcus Astrella was the father of Draco, not Corvus.
“Sadly, this could not be genetically confirmed through hospital tests as it can be done now. Corvus knew this and knew he would have to continue treating Draco as his own son, but he couldn’t. The angry, the disgust, the dishonesty, and the humiliation raged inside him for years, quiet to anyone around him. He distanced himself from Draco as the boy grew older. Corvus left for work, traveling long distances to get away from his lying wife and the son that was never his.
“Once Draco turned 10, I believe, Marcus suddenly died. It is rumored he had a form of cancer that was never caught until it was too late. With Marcus passed and buried, Lyra suffered greatly and fell into a deep depression. The love of her life was gone all of sudden, so she poured her love and time into Draco, as the boy was a spitting image of Marcus.
“It wasn’t until Draco became 15 that he realized his father had been gone for a very long time. When he had asked his mother, Lyra lied and said he was just on a work trip. Corvus had long left them and had told Lyra what he knew. Divorce wasn’t a common thing, so Corvus continued to pay the servants and send money to Lyra weekly. Draco was not happy with his mother’s answer and sought after Corvus. He found Corvus in a port town miles away from them.
“When Draco met with Corvus, the older man couldn’t seem to lie to the boy. Corvus came back to the house and lived with Lyra and Draco for only two months, before everything flooded Corvus’ mind again. The anger, disgust, and the humiliation blinded Corvus from thinking properly.”
Headmistress covered her mouth for a moment before quietly speaking through her parted fingers. “Corvus ended up murdering Lyra. He stabbed her 28 times. One stab for every year they were married. Draco saw the aftermath. Corvus holding the knife, his arm covered in blood. The flood was colored in red and Lyra’s body laid unmoving. Draco screamed, sobbing. Corvus did not look at the boy as he stood up, dropping the knife beside Lyra. His eyes blankly staring into her open, clouded eyes. He left.
“It is rumored Corvus committed suicide by jumping off the cliffside into rocky waters, but it was never confirmed. He wasn’t seen again after he left Draco. Draco was found holding his dead mother by the morning servants the next day. The police and the city’s governor became heavily involved. Draco became a shell of who he had been. The Astrella family allowed him to live with them, as the living Whites knew he was not a White and disowned him once his parents had died. Draco soon found out what had transpired and grew disgusted at the Astrellas. He left and moved away. It wasn’t until his grandsons were born that he knew his bloodline was cursed. Every child from him, or from his children, or from theirs, were all born with silky white hair and pale blue eyes. It didn’t matter what the genetic material of the other half had.
“Draco laid on his bed, dying, and told all of his children and grandchildren why their family was forever cursed. One of his grandsons, Sirius, wasn’t happy with the bloodline being cursed. So, he sought out the Whites. He found one that was living, Estella White. She was kind to him, but did inform him that they were not related at all. He had better luck if he spoke to Orion Astella.
“Sirius found Orion and they talked, for hours and weeks. Orion and Sirius actually ended up together. Through their relationship, Sirius had learned that they had magic in their blood, but due to lack of harnessing it and a bond, Sirius’ family never knew. Luckily, Orion taught and trained Sirius. It was then that Orion knew. He knew what Sirius’ grandfather, Draco, had been cursed with.”
Headmistress stared at Nova now, her eyes full of sadness and fear. “The White family from Draco’s bloodline… That bloodline is cursed with power. Too much power. So much… It has killed thousands of innocent people and hundreds of teachers and family members. Orion knew this too late. Sirius ended up killing him slowly over time. As Orion bonded with Sirius who was a wielder, Sirius would use too much of Orion’s magic. Everytime they trained, no matter how hard Sirius focused, he would always deplete Orion’s magic to near empty.
“This caused illness to spread throughout Orion’s body, hidden and unknown, until it was too late. Sirius had already shared his knowledge with his siblings and it was far too late to stop once they had found Whitehall and enrolled into training and learning the history of magic. Sirius was old by the time Orion had passed, he was unaware it was due to their training, he assumed it was old age.
“Because of this, those from Draco’s bloodline are sought after by corporations or groups that want to harness their power. At first, it was easy to deal with, but in 1923, Aten White was the first to realize… Aten realized he didn’t need a bond to use magic. He had his own. This was what the curse was. The Whites from Draco were cursed with the power to kill those around them because that is what Corvus did. Fate knew it would happen and cursed Draco with that magic, but it was unknown until Aten found out.
“Aten… He was never a good child in Whitehall. Once he found out he could use magic without, what he called a “liability”, he left the school. He founded a group of terrible people. People who wanted to control those with magic. Aten founded the Eclipse. The Eclipse became strong in the 60s, Aten and his people would murder anyone who stood in their way to get what they wanted. They kidnapped hundreds of children and forced them into who knows what. When Aten passed, his second-in-command took over. Sadly, it was his own son, whom he had with his blood related sister, by force. Deimos White became the leader of Eclipse.
“He still is. And he has an obsession with anyone who related in any way to Draco White. Which, Nova, you are related to Draco White. We have known for years, even before you were born, and we tried to convince your mother to bring you here. But, she ran from us, saying we were the problem and she could keep you safe on her own. Sadly, we knew this was untrue as we had stopped countless people from Eclipse from trying to kidnap you.”
Headmistress stopped, her eyes darting down to her hands that were still on the table. Her body seemed tense as if preparing for an attack.
“Continue.” Nova’s voice was firm but softer than before.
Nikolette made eye contact, her eyes clouded with guilt. “We were able to protect you, but we were unable to protect your father. Your actual father. Vega White has been missing since your birth. And we have been unable to locate him. Forgive us.”
Nova said nothing for the longest time. It was as if time stopped.
“How can I help?”
Looking at this small, mostly untrained teenager, it was almost as if he looked older. He seemed relaxed, unwavering, as he stared at the Headmistress’ shocked face.
Nova glanced at me, his eyes a sky full of possibilities. His face moved the slightest bit as he smiled softly. “How can we help?”
