~~Nova’s POV~~
After the meeting with the headmistress, she told us to go home and she will reach out when she can. We were just entering our dorm when Blaze cautiously touched my shoulder, letting the door slowly shut behind us.
I turned around and glanced up at him. His face was wrought with confusion and worry.
“Blaze? Are you okay?” My throat was sore from talking quite a bit.
Blaze chuckled for a moment, a small beautiful smile lighting his face for just a moment. “Nova, I should be asking you that.”
I shrugged. “I am okay. I don’t want to talk anymore.” I gestured towards my throat and Blaze nodded.
“It’s okay. You don’t have to talk. Do you want to take a nap or we could watch a movie? I can make lunch for us.”
My stomach was slightly growling so I nodded and led the way to the kitchen. Watching Blaze as he cooked was mesmerizing. Blaze chuckled as I hopped onto the counter and watched as he pulled ingredients out of the fridge or the cabinets.
Blaze started chopping onions and garlic, before letting them cook and sweat in a skillet. I watched as he pounded the chicken (as quietly as he could but it was still loud) to get it all to an even level. Then he seasoned the chicken with spices, I couldn’t really see the labels. The kitchen began smelling like garlic and the sounds of searing chicken filled the air. It always smelled amazing when Blaze cooked.
“Do you want potatoes or rice?” Blaze glanced at me as he lowered the heat on the stove.
I pointed at the potatoes, knowing he would make cheesy potatoes.
Blaze chuckled and nodded. A soft smile stayed on his face as he peeled potatoes with ease and chopped them into slices. He placed them in a beautiful layer in an oven-safe dish. Then he poured a mixture of heavy cream and spices before placing slices of butter on top of the potatoes. Then the creamy potatoes were placed into the hot oven. I missed when he pre-heated it.
“Do you want something to drink?” Blaze was looking at me again.
I nodded but hopped off the counter.
“Oh, I can get it.” Blaze started but I shook my head and opened the fridge.
After grabbing a glass of chocolate milk, I leaned against the counter, watching Blaze. I could see his muscles rippling under his shirt as he moved. Like I said, he was mesmerizing to watch. Sadly, the cooking ended and Blaze began taking the chicken off the skillet, letting them sit for a moment. He had added a lot of cheese to the potatoes at some point, because when he took them out, the cheese was bubbling and oozing everywhere. It was gorgeous.
“Let’s eat.” He still had a soft smile as he loaded a plate for me.
We sat down at the table and quietly ate. The food was amazing and it was even better knowing Blaze had cooked it for us.
“Are you sure you are okay?”
I smiled and nodded. “We can talk later.”
Blaze nodded and we ate in comfortable silence.
~~~~
After lunch, I took a shower and got dressed in pink shorts and an oversized white sweater. I was sitting on my bed, reading a random book, when Blaze knocked on my door.
“Hey,” He opened my door and paused for a moment as he took in my pastel room. “Would you like to watch a movie with me? You can pick the movie.” Blaze seemed nervous… It was cute.
I nodded as I set the book aside and grabbed my favorite pink elephant stuffed animal. It was my oldest stuffed animal. He smiled and led me to his room. I had assumed we would watch the movie in the living room, but I shrugged and followed him into his room.
He laid on his bed, closer to the wall, before I climbed in and sat beside him. His body heat was comforting. He loaded up a streaming service that had loads of movies and tv shows. He gave me the gaming controller to choose a movie, though he had to help because I have never played any gaming console.
I settled for an animated movie. Blaze set the controller aside before laying back, getting comfortable.
During the movie, I had moved against his side, cuddling into him as we watched the movie. His body heat was amazing enough that I fell asleep. It was the best sleep as I was able to relax and review the news of my bloodline in my dreams.
~~~~
When I woke up, it was dark outside. Blaze was softly snoring beside me, still sitting up slightly. I sat up and yawned.
“Hey,” a thick voice, heavy with sleep, softly muttered behind me.
I turned around and glanced at Blaze. “Lay down, we can still sleep.”
Blaze nodded sleepily as he shifted down the bed and pulled me into his chest, his arm wrapping around me comfortably.
It took me a moment to relax my beating heart before I fell asleep again, enveloped in warmth.
~~~~
Light seeped through the open curtains, filling the room with warm bright light. The light happened to fall onto my face and woke me up. Blaze shifted awake a second later. We slept a long time.
“Good morning.”
I smiled and hugged Blaze, comfortably resting my head against his chest.
“I received a message from Headmistress. She said there’s nothing we can do right now, because you are still new to using magic. She wants us to focus on training, so we don’t have classes anymore. I will teach you what I know and we will have coaches train us some times. Okay?”
Sudden anxiety flooded me as I realized the Eclipse could find and kill me because I am inexperienced and naive. I have to train. I have to better myself to be able to find my father and finish the Eclipse’s mission.
“Let’s train.”
~~~~
Days passed full of constant training. Blaze would teach me certain spells that allowed me to cast on my own. They were basic level spells, too simple to be used in a battle. Some days I would whine and moan about learning basic spells, but Blaze or whatever coach was training us that day, would remind me what the bigger goal was.
Finding my father.
It took a lot of strength to push away my annoyance at these basic spells, but, a few months later, Blaze taught me a more difficult spell. We were outside in a flat field on campus. The sun was high and beating down scorching rays of heat. Our body suits were drenched in sweat. I knew I would struggle taking it off later.
The spell Blaze was teaching me ‘Lapis pellis’, stone skin. Lapis pellis allowed the caster to have solid stone-like skin. It was helpful in close combat and used for defense and protection. The spell could also be casted on someone else to provide protection, but only lasted about ten minutes. If the spell is casted on the caster, it will last as long as the caster maintains thought control on the spell.
After five straight hours of trying to learn the spell, I was exhausted.
“Can we stop?” My words were airy as I took deep breaths to try to relax. My body felt sore and overworked. Despite us never doing really physical movements, the spells required so much mental energy.
Blaze was laying on the ground. He was spent as he could barely keep up with the amount of magic stored in me. Despite feeling exhausted, I could still tell I had way more magic swirling in my body than I should have after hours, no, days of training.
