Fade Into Blue

Two: Moonlight (Part 2)

Two: Moonlight (Part 2)

Nov 16, 2020

It was my last day in paradise. I already pre-packed my things and placed my luggage under my four-poster canopy bed. Another twenty-four hours passed, and I haven't seen the man nor have I seen his shadow. There was this stupid stinging pain in my chest that wouldn't go away. I was being ridiculous. There was no point to feel this way. I just saved his life, we connected and that's it. I started to resent myself for expecting more. Heck, I didn't even know if the man was gay and here I am, acting like we just broke up. I buried my face in my pillow like a lovesick teenager.

Get a grip, Reidyr.

I told myself a million times. He was a stranger, that's it. Nothing more nothing less. Move on. I exhaled deeply and gathered my resolve. Move on. I told myself over and over. At this point, I was trying to convince myself harder than before. I grabbed my portable keyboard piano and decided to distract myself with some music sheets that I brought along on my trip. I just let my fingers play to release the frustration in my chest.

I looked at my watch and it was seven in the evening already. I was on my bed and I couldn't sleep. No matter how long I closed my eyes, all I saw was that man's gorgeous eyes and his ungodly features. I tried looking for a comfortable sleeping position and I even tried to count sheep but nothing was working. Out of frustration, I decided to go out and take a late night walk at the beach.

The air was crisp, the breeze was pleasant, and the moon was still shining proudly in the night sky, casting its light against the surface of water as if the ocean suddenly became a sea of stars. The night was picturesque. I took a deep breath, letting the salty air penetrate my lungs, and exhaled slowly. I stood at the edge of the shore, exactly where the cold sea water met my bare feet. I was just glad this helped me calm down, release my frustrations, and clear my head. Then out of nowhere, someone spoke behind me, breaking my peace and serenity.

"Going for a night swim?" I froze on my spot. The owner of the voice was very familiar. In all honesty it was the voice of someone I was looking forward to hearing for the past twenty-four hours. I felt the bite of the cool wind against my skin as I turned around.

There he was, as if the moon just decided to purposefully place a spotlight on how beautiful he was. He was wearing a black undershirt and grey sweatpants. His skin looked paler under the icy blue light. The tattoos that started from his left wrist to his left pectoris looked very prominent. It was as dark as the night sky itself. The design was a mix of what looked like Aztec design and Japanese inspired vector patterns. The ink that covered most of his shoulder was made of this intricate pattern that looked like he had some sort of shoulder armor on. There's this egging feeling that made me want to trace the ink along his arms.

"Hey stranger," I managed to say. Does he have to be this beautiful? He looked like some Greek God who came down from Mount Olympus and graced the whole earth with his immaculate presence. His arms were folded on his chest, exposing his thick muscles. Stop gawking. I reminded myself. When his eyes met mine, he shot me an amused look.

"You like what you see?" he said jokingly. I was shocked. He better be joking. He was wearing his cocky grin. I rolled my eyes. Then suddenly his eyes went dark which startled me a little. "What are you doing here?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant. He didn't answer right away. I saw his eyes wander a little. "Can't sleep." He admitted. "Oh," was all I had to say. It seems I am not the only one.

"You?" he asked as he started approaching me. I tried to keep my composure. "Same," I replied, and I started digging my feet into the soft sand, trapping the salt water in the process. I could feel his gaze on me as I tried to focus burying my feet into the soft sand. "Any problems?" I shook my head. "No, just couldn't sleep." I still wasn't looking at him as I replied. At this point I just couldn't.

"Would it kill you to look at me as I talk to you?" There was a hint of irritation in his tone which made me nervous. I didn't have a choice, so I looked up. His gaze obviously towering over me. It was an intense gaze that made squirm a little inside. "Sorry," I gave a weak smile. We remained silent for a while. "You should go back to your villa, it's too chilly already." I raised my brow. "You're the one who's wearing an undershirt on this cold night." I pointed out. He raised his brow. "Trust me, this is nothing." I shrugged my shoulders. "Go, have a good night." He ordered. I frowned.

"Excuse me?" He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Don't make me carry you and lock you in your villa." He said sternly. I had a feeling that he was serious. I couldn't believe this man. I have not heard from him for the past twenty-four hours and now here he goes ordering me around. What the actual fuck? "Have a good night." I sighed in defeat and started walking to my villa. My veins are searing with frustration.

Now how am I going to sleep feeling like this? I didn't notice I was gritting my teeth and my hands were balled into fists. I was so wrapped up in my own feelings I didn't notice that the gargantuan of a man was following me.

As soon as I stopped on my tracks I turned around. "Can I help you?" This time, he shot me a look of amusement. "You look adorable when you're angry, did you know that?"

Fuck.

"What?" it wasn't a question. I just wanted to hear it again.

Did he just call me cute?

"Nothing," he said with a smirk on his face. You better believe at this point I was fuming with anger. "You can leave now, I'm already in front of my villa." I told him and went up to my door. I inserted my key and was about to close the door until he stuck his muscular tattooed arm in between the gap of the door, preventing me from shutting it completely. I jumped in surprise. I opened the door to see him with that annoying smirk on his face. I started praying to God to give me the strength and patience to deal with this man. "What?" my tone became a bit too harsh. He raised his brow and chuckled.

Great. The man enjoys teasing me.

"I have a proposition for you for tonight." Before I could retaliate he held a finger up. "Just for tonight."

"Okay sir, your mood swings are giving me whiplash right now." I started massaging my temples. "Just this night," he continued. "Are you up for it?"

There was silence between us. His eyes were determined but I can feel that he's a little nervous too, but he was just trying to hide it. I sighed exasperatedly. "Let's hear it." I crossed my arms and raised a brow. Since this is going to be my last night on this damned island, might as well hear this man out. He closed his eyes for a quick second then looked at me intently.

"Sleep with me tonight."

Virtuoso pianist Reidyr, a born workaholic, was coerced by his parents to go on a well-deserved vacation in Bali. Breaking his reverie was a mysterious drowning man who he ended up saving, but thought he'd never see again as he left Bali without knowing his name.

In a pursuit of independence, he moves to Portland where Lucas, his overprotective but well-meaning best friend, lives. In exchange for that independence, he meets Killian, who looks like he's been cut out of a men's magazine - flipping his whole world upside down. Meeting Killian was obnoxious for a lot of reasons, with the list beginning with:

1.) He's magnetically drawn to the guy.
2.) The man hates his existence to the core.
3.) Reidyr's not sure why number 2 is the case.

Reidyr finds himself whirled into a complicated dance with his career, friendships, and his growing attraction to Killian despite the odds. From disarray to more disarray, he navigates his Portland move with deep blue eyes, stumbling upon surprising revelations each day, not knowing if these will color him in, or leave him fading into blue.
