"Maybe you should take a shower," she says. "You can borrow some of my clothes."
"Thanks," Sara says, suddenly realizing that what she's wearing is literally all that she's got. All of the things she had on Emberia – they're gone. She'll never see them again. Strange how that thought doesn't hurt as much as she thinks it's supposed to. "I do feel kind of gross. Sure you don't mind?"
Casual, but it's a question that actually means a lot, and Alice seems to recognize this, because she takes her time in answering. She puts Millie down on the floor and sticks a cherry Popsicle into the toddler's little hand before she turns around to face Sara. "No, we don't mind," she says, and smiles.
