Once Ash had dressed and left for work I flitted around and cleaned. I had the day off and didn’t really have much to do. So I ended up starting a big pot of vegetable soup.
I chopped carrots and onions, set them to cook in the bottom of a huge pot that I reserved for soup alone. Diced celery as well as butter went in next.
The aroma created by the simmering vegetables was to die for. It smelled like home, it was like something your grandma made for you in the dead of winter. I added potatoes and vegetable broth into the pot.
I set that to a slight boil and added a mixture of herbs, covered the pot with a lid and got started on the bread for the week.
Ash was gluten sensitive and most store bought bread made him sick. So I made all of our bread from scratch, I had found a few recipes online and picked a few things from each. With a bit of trial and error I found the best bread recipe.
It always started with the same base. Then I slowly added other ingredients, always kneading the dough on a floured surface. I oiled a loaf pan and sprinkled a blend of pumpkin and sunflower seeds in the bottom.
As the bread baked I realized I had been cooking for a good few hours and it was three in the afternoon. I was covered in baking flour and bits of vegetables, so I went to go shower.

I walked out of the bathroom and heard a thud from Ash’s bedroom. I came in to find Ash had stumbled into the wall from tried to get off his shirt. He had managed to get out one arm and had gotten his wings stuck in the arm hole.
It was quite funny to watch but I decided to be nice and help him.
Once Ash was out of his shirt he looked at me sheepishly and grabbed a throw blanket that he wrapped around his shoulders.
I chuckled and walked out of Ash’s room with him on my heels. He sat down in the kitchen to watch me check on the food.
I had taken the bread out of the oven and the soup was cooking nicely but not quite done. Ash looked like he wanted to eat everything in the kitchen at once but said nothing.
