Eli sat back against the low wall Reuel had lead him to earlier. The flames around the church, orphanage, and townsfolks homes had begun to subside, due to the collective help of everyone. He tended to his burns, a numerous amount in varying degrees littered his skin. After he had helped the children out of the orphanage, a woman had given him a salve out of gratitude, thanking him for being so courageous. He couldn't even think of how to respond and just thanked her.
From the looks of it, most of the other children inside the orphanage had managed to get out before the fire had got too bad. He sighed in relief. As long as everyone was okay. His head felt heavy, he couldn't even tell how much time had passed, Reuel was nowhere insight, he could only hope his friend hadn't been hurt as well. Elis eyes glued to the smoldering church. The screaming had stopped, people were now tending to others who had been trapped in the fires. He was scared now that he realized the nightmare that had be plaguing him had come true.
"Eli.."
Eli looked over at the voice and quickly recoiled, his hand flying to his right shoulder and clasping it. Before him stood the group of teen boy who had assaulted him a while back. They looked down with an expression of shame. "Look.. Um, we're sorry about.. What we did to you.. Back then. It wasn't okay of us. We really hurt you and we're sorry."
"We're sorry" The boys collectively held their heads and apologized to him.
"You helped out so much and risked your life for people who only treated you like.. Vermin.. When we were too scared to.. We're very grateful.."
Eli couldn't say anything. He only nodded at them and continued to hold onto his shoulder. The teen in the front held out an extra vile of salve. "For your wounds.."
They left after that, leaving Eli in a state of utter shock. Tonight was full of shocking events. He was just ready for it to end.
He applied the salve to more of his burns then rubbed his head. Where would he even be able to sleep tonight.. The orphanage, his home since he was six was gone.
When he stopped rubbing his head, he looked up and saw a strange, but familiar face in the distance away from him. It was the child he had talked to at the church. They were looking right at him.
"Hey!" He shouted, getting up with a wince. The child began to walk away, but Eli chased them, determined to talk to them. "Come back! I need to talk-"
He bumped into a group of people and ran around them, seeing the back of the child swiftly walking away.
He took a deep breath and charged after them. They always stayed a distance ahead of him, but he kept up as best he could. The child didn't seem to be trying to lose him, but lead him away from the main center of the town. The further they went, the less Eli came across other people. Homes were empty, everyone more focused on helping in the middle of town.
The child turned down another alleyway and he followed, seeing the edge of the town wall coming up. There were only so many ways they could go now! He just wanted to know-
"Please! I beg you.."
A voice stopped Eli in his tracks. He was about to round down another alley, only too see the child had disappeared from his sight. Instead, before him was a man who he recognized lived in the village. But the man was being help up by his throat by a tall figure clad in black.
"Give, give me more time, I can.. I-I-"
"I'm not here to listen to your sniveling."
The voice coming from the black clad man was deep and in a tone of disgust.
"I am only following my lords orders. Your contract has expired."
"N-no! please!"
Before Eli could stop himself, he charged at the black clad man, aiming with his shoulder forward. He pushed him with the impact, actually making the other drop the one who was being held up in his grasp. He felt the man shudder at the impact and turned quickly. Two red eyes glowed at him, disgust lit up in them like a fire.
"You dare touch me.."
The man stopped and his eyes narrowed.
"You, you're the strange one I've ran into before.. With that aura.."
Eli couldn't make sense of what the man meant, but ignored him and ran around, trying to help up the other man.
"Go! Get out of here!"
The man only looked up in fear as a shadow loomed over Elis back.
"you are in my way. I have a job to do."
"I don't care about that! This innocent man-"
The black clad man laughed.
"Innocent?"
Eli gasped as a strong hand wrapped around his throat, lifting him up. This man was inhumanly strong! His hands fought against the one holding him up with ease, trying to pry his fingers loose. To no avail, the man only uttered a cold laugh. Eli could see sharp teeth glisten in the night light and a wave of fear washed over him. What was this man?
"It disgusts me to have to touch you, with That aura about you."
Eli continued to try and fight back but the mans grip became tighter. His eyes bore into those red ones before him before there was a loud crack and everything went black.
---
The black clad man dropped Elis body to the ground and turned back to the other one cowering below him.
"filth.. All of you."
The man spat before extending sharp blade-like claws from his hand, swiftly landing a killing blow on the other before him. Blood splattered around them and the second body dropped. The man flicked the blood from his hand, flexing his fingers out.
He turned to leave, his job done, with one minor interruption from yet another piece of filth.
"Dante."
A voice behind the man made him stop in his tracks. His eyes widened. This voice, he knew only all too well.
He turned around quickly, his hood falling back to reveal his face in the night light. There, stood the first boy he had killed. But, it wasn't him. The others eyes now glowed a bright red, the broken neck Dante had just dealt to the boy cracking loudly back into place.
"My lord.. Lucifer?"
