The room was silent. In the middle is an iron chair stained with streaks of dried blood. Seated on it is the ‘freed man’.
He can smell the musty and rancid smell of blood. He looked at his limbs, and found that it was all bound by chains.
At his back, stands five guards all wearing full body armor.
In front of him are three members of the Ibis. One of them, Sir Minos, looked at him as if seeing a rotting carcass left untouched for days. Minos’s youthful look, that can swoon the majority of the ladies in a room, now bore to it a menacing appearance.
One guard approached the man on the chair, and handed him a small blade with serrated teeth.
“Begin!”, Minos said.
“HEEEEELP!” the man let out a deafening scream as he was jarred awake. Beads of cold sweat can be seen all over him.
He was still lying on a big table, when a figure approached him. It was the slim figure that reattached the tubes on the corpse before their escape.
“Don’t worry, you are safe here.” the slim figure said as it began placing a cone shaped apparatus on his chest. The apparatus has a tube sticking out from it. The tube branched into two and were attached to the figure’s ears.
After a few seconds the figure removed the apparatus and placed it on his shoulders.
“What is that?” the man said.
“Oh, this is just a stethoscope. We use this to listen to sounds made by different parts of the body. From the sounds, we can ascertain the body’s current status.”
Amazed, the freed man's eyes lit up. Then he asked, “What have you found out then?”
“You are okay for now, the procedure was successful. You can check your new appearance through the mirror right there.” the slim figure said pointing to the table on the opposite side of the room.
“Well, I would do so, if only I can walk.” the freed man said smiling, still marveling over the things he had observed from these figures.
“You can.” the figure said pointing to the freed man’s limbs.
Puzzled, the freed man lifted his head a bit. His eyes widened as he looked at the new limbs attached to his body. It has a color similar to his skin, it’s shapes were the same as his lost limbs. If only he did not know that they were cut off, he would mistake the new ones as the old ones. He tried to move the fingers from his new arm, then it responded.
Elated, he brought it near his face and observed the intricate new limb as it moved exactly as he wanted to. He then used it to assist him in getting up. Then sitting on top of the table, he looked at his new feet, likewise responding to the way he wanted to.
He went down and let go of the table. Then with all of his concentration, he made his first step.
“Bam!” His body hit the floor. Surprised, he then again tried to stand.
“Do you want me to assist you?” the figure said to him. “I could just bring the mirror here, if you wanted.” he added.
“I did not know that walking could be this hard.” the freed man said laughing. “But, I needed to re-learn this.”
His feet a bit wide apart and his arms stretched to his sides. He made his first step, he was successful. Then he followed it with consecutive steps, only falling on his fifth step.
Like a toddler learning to walk, he repeated this process for three more times before he reached the other side. In front of him now, is the table with the mirror on top of it.
He drew closer to it, clinging unto the table with his mechanical arm. He then reached towards the mirror placing it in front.
