Her spellbook shot out dark energy that enveloped the beast causing it to screech in pain. Sam could smell it burning, and after five seconds, the beam stopped, and the monster was a dried husk of what it once was before.
"Amazing." Sam spoke quietly.
"Must be the effect of the petrification. I should have been able to kill that thing within two seconds max. Oh well." She shrugged. The girl continued to stretch out her limbs as she walked over to Sam. "I'll help you just this once, seeing as you and your companion are the only reason I'm finally free from this place." She brought up her hand to Sam's leg and emitted the same purple glow as her book had previously made. Sam felt a comfortable warmth spread throughout his leg. Sam was amazed as he watched the wound heal rapidly and felt the pain disappear.
"You've gotta help Will too! He was the one who did the spell to free you!" Sam pleaded with the demoness as she looked over to the pool of blood that had come out of the young man.
"Such insolence to ask me to heal another after I already fixed you. I'm pretty sure the guy over there is worm food by now anyway." She turned to walk away from Sam and felt him grabbed her leg. She turned around, ready to smite the lowly human for touching her.
"Please! He's only ended up like this because of me! I can't fix this, but you can. Please help me take responsibility!" Tears were flowing down his face rapidly. It was not so much that she was moved by his words or emotions but that she was perplexed by them. She couldn't understand why someone beneath her had the gall to continue asking her for help. She shook his arm off her and walked over to the boy lying face down on the ground next to his sword. She flipped over his body and was shocked at the sight that she saw. The sword was using its tendrils to plug the holes scattered throughout his chest from the monster.
"I've never seen Divinity Eater try to keep it's wielder alive before. Usually, it will quickly look for another host to feed off. He must have high compatibility with it, and he's human none the less. Interesting," She thought.
She began to move one of her hands up to his body and looked deep within him. It was dark. She looked around for anything that stood out to make him desired by the blade. She couldn't find a shred of potential anywhere she looked in his core. She was about ready to stop looking where she heard a rattling sound from behind her. There was a door with chains wrapped all around it with a sign that said Keep Out. She wanted to see what was behind the door and was amused with the locks that were on it as if they were for show and not to really keep the door shut. She ripped open the door, shattering the chains and pulling it off the hinges.
She couldn't believe what she had found inside the room. The space was vast and filled with a bright white light. The potential within this boy was greater than the Maldrossi generals of old and possibly even her own.
"This is amazing; with someone like this under my control, I could make it back to Maldrossan easily. I need him!" She thought.
She was intoxicated by the possibilities and raw power that the young man could possess. That she almost forgot that he was in a critical condition and that she was going to lose this newfound treasure if she did not act quickly. She quickly exited his core, bringing her consciousness back to the room around her, leaving the door open.
She had failed to realize that she was not the only one in that room while she was there. Something awful and sinister had also been inside that room, waiting to break free. It had a wicked smile on its face as it moved to the door. It was going to enjoy itself.
"Can you help him?" She was shocked by the sudden voice as the other boy had walked up to them. He was still crying, and she found it detestable.
"I will do my best to save your friend. It turns out I have more need of him, and it would be a shame to lose such a valuable tool." she spoke coldly as she began to focus her magic on healing his wounds. Sam watched as the same glow that emitted from her hands on him was now on William. However, the wounds were not sealing or healing as they did with him. She was getting frustrated. "Come on, you can't tease me like this and go off and die." she mumbled.
"Why isn't he healing? You were able to heal me!" Sam was shouting directly next to her.
"Do you mind! I can hear just fine, and I would like to keep it that way… He's lost a lot more blood than you had...even focused on healing each hole one by one, it might still not be enough." She grimaced as she realized she would have to gamble on another method if she was to save this boy. She brought up her right hand and transformed one of her fingers into a sharp claw, and used it to cut her left arm open.
"What are you doing that for?" Sam was puzzled at how this was going to help William.
She ignored him and brought the bleeding arm up to his mouth, and used her other arm to make the command sigil in the air. "Drink." she muttered. It was a low-level command spell, but she had to put extra power into it to make an unconscious person follow through with it. William had begun to swallow and drink the blood flowing from her arm.
"My blood has special properties where almost all wounds I sustained will automatically repair themselves as long as my heart isn't destroyed." She spoke softly.
"Can it heal William too?" Sam asked.
"I don't know, I've never done something like this before. I do know I don't have strong enough healing magic to fix these wounds on my own. This is our last option." She was feeling tired as she spoke. It had only been a couple minutes since she had been freed, and she had to exert herself quite a bit already. "There's a chance that his body rejects it, and he dies anyway." She muttered.
"Come on, William, pull through!" Sam was kneeling beside William holding his right hand as the left refuse to let go of the blade next to him. Sam looked over William's body's wounds, feeling guilty as they had happened because he told him about the cabin. As he was scanning, he spotted that one of the holes had begun to reseal itself, and the tendril was pulling out of it.
"It's working! Your blood is healing him" Sam looked over at the woman who's eyes were fighting to stay open.
"If I pass out, just make sure he keeps drinking. Don't worry about me. My body will repair itself even if I'm asleep" Her words were slurred as her energy rapidly depleted. She slumped over on top of William, making sure her left arm was still over his mouth as she passed out.
