Fade Into Blue

Three: Goodnight & Go (Part 2)

Three: Goodnight & Go (Part 2)

Nov 23, 2020

Seventeen hours passed, and I am back in sunny Los Angeles. I grabbed my luggage by the conveyor belt and headed to the arrival area. My eyes were scanning the people in line, waiting for other passengers that have just arrived. I'm looking for a tall, blonde hair guy, as he told me he's already here. As I weaved through the crowd, I heard his voice call out. I looked at the source of the voice until the next thing I knew, a man wrapped his arms around me tightly, lifting me slightly from the ground. I knew it was Luke.

"Snowflake!" He said gleefully as he spun me around. "Luke!" As soon as he settled me down. He fixed my now wrinkled shirt. His hands rested on my shoulders. "God, Snowflake, look at you!" I rolled my eyes.

"You're a sight for sore eyes yourself." I replied with a heartwarming smile. He wrapped his arms around my body, this time, gentler. "God I've missed you." I chuckled. "I missed you too." I can feel that we're already getting a little bit of attention. I cleared my throat. Luke grabbed my luggage and beamed at me. His green eyes glimmered with joy. "Let's go?" I smiled and gave a small nod.

I waited outside the airport and waited for Luke to bring the car so we could load my things. A slick black jeep stopped in front of me. I couldn't see through the tinted window. The driver of the jeep went out and it was, indeed, Luke himself. I frowned at him. "I'm impressed." I commented looking at him and back to his black jeep. He clicked his tongue and gave a playful wink. He loaded my stuff at the back of his jeep and opened the door to the passenger seat in front.

"Such a gentleman." I teased. He gave a bow and motioned for me to enter. I laughed. I went inside and buckled my seatbelt as we drove off towards my new home – Portland.

An hour passed and I found myself staring outside the car window. "You seem awfully quiet." Luke spoke while his eyes were still on the road. "Huh?" he broke me out of my thoughts. He chuckled. "What's up?" I bit my lip. His free hand pointed at me and glanced at me for a second. "Don't give me that nothing bullshit, I know something is up when you're preoccupied and you bite your lower lip."

"It's complicated." I confessed. It really was. I mean if I tell him the whole story, I don't even know where to begin with in the first place. His emerald eyes started to worry. "Do you want to talk about it?" his tone was concerned. I shook my head. "Okay," he said and grabbed my hand and squeezed it gently before placing it back on the wheel.

"Would it be okay if I take a quick nap? I'm a little bit tired and jet lagged." He gave a quick nod. "Tell me all about it when you're ready, Okay?" I reclined my seat a little. "Pleasant dreams, Snowflake." I closed my eyes and sleep found me almost instantly.

It was a dreamless sleep when Luke woke me up. I straightened my seat and rubbed the sleep from my eyes. "Good morning Snowflake. I'm sure you haven't eaten anything. C'mon let's get you something to eat."

"Where are we?" I gave out a yawn. "We're still in California, Redding to be exact." He replied. "There's a diner, let's get you something to eat. I can hear your stomach grumble while you were asleep." Now that he mentioned it, I was hungry. We parked in front of a diner and settled at a booth not far from the entrance of the establishment. I looked around and I just realized that it was already dark outside. I looked at the clock and it was three in the morning.

"Are you doing okay?" I asked Luke worriedly. "I can drive so you can take a rest."

"I'm fine. Don't worry about me. Trust me, being awake for more than twenty-four hours is a walk in the park for me." I frowned. "Luke, you need to get some sleep. We could check in a motel along the way or something." He waved his hand dismissively. "Nonsense. Trust me, I've prepared myself for this."

"You sure?" I asked worriedly. He flashed me an assuring smile. "Positive." His eyes scanned the whole menu. A waitress approached our table and took our orders. "Just let me know if you need to take a rest, okay?"

"Always the worrywart." I rolled my eyes. "I'm being serious." I hit him on the shoulder, and he laughed melodically. "I'm just teasing!" he said in between laughs while rubbing the spot on his shoulder I just hit. His phone rang. I saw him narrow his eyes and he grunted. "Work?" I asked.

"More like my annoying business partner. Let me just take this call. I'll be right back." I nodded and he went out to make a call. I just waited for Luke to come back as the food that we ordered was served at our table. I had pancakes, bacon, eggs and a strawberry milkshake while he ordered a club sandwich, waffles and sweet tea. The food smelled amazing and made my mouth water. Not long after, Luke came back and sat in front of me. As we were about to eat, he looked at me.

"So, can you now tell me what riled you up in that trip of yours?"

Virtuoso pianist Reidyr, a born workaholic, was coerced by his parents to go on a well-deserved vacation in Bali. Breaking his reverie was a mysterious drowning man who he ended up saving, but thought he'd never see again as he left Bali without knowing his name.

In a pursuit of independence, he moves to Portland where Lucas, his overprotective but well-meaning best friend, lives. In exchange for that independence, he meets Killian, who looks like he's been cut out of a men's magazine - flipping his whole world upside down. Meeting Killian was obnoxious for a lot of reasons, with the list beginning with:

1.) He's magnetically drawn to the guy.
2.) The man hates his existence to the core.
3.) Reidyr's not sure why number 2 is the case.

Reidyr finds himself whirled into a complicated dance with his career, friendships, and his growing attraction to Killian despite the odds. From disarray to more disarray, he navigates his Portland move with deep blue eyes, stumbling upon surprising revelations each day, not knowing if these will color him in, or leave him fading into blue.
