Steven was walking his bike out of the garage when a rumble shook the house. His siblings ran out to make sure he was okay, and the gems came around the cliff side.
"That's not an earthquake, they've been coming to quickly, it has to be a gem monster. Oh hey Sophie, we were just coming to see you, do you see the cause of these tremors?" Spinel asked.
"No, but I did come out to tell Steven to be careful on his bike ride, he's going to meet someone and he is going to have to remember his training or disaster will strike." she responded.
"Oh that reminds me, besides telling you not to look into my future if you can help it, I need to grab something from the house" Steven said, before being interrupted by Robbie who handed him a glowing bracelet, after explaining Sophie told him to grab it on the way out.
"You're going to ride your bike, in the sand, to return a bracelet?" Page asked. "I'll never understand you sometimes, but if it's that girl from school that's sitting on the other side of the beach, you better be nice, and invite her over after all this is done."
"Only if you promise not to watch me, I can't talk to people if I'm being watched." Page nodded in agreement, and directed her siblings and guardians into the house.
Finally alone, Steven trudged his bike through the sand to where a dark haired girl was sitting in the shade. Just as he went to introduce himself, another tremor hit and shook the beach. a large bit of the cliffside came off and was about to land on the girl, when Steven jumped over to her and threw his hands out. A large pink bubble enveloped the children, just in time to deflect the falling debris. Safe and sound Steven introduces himself, and the girl does the same, saying her name is Connie.
"I remember you from school, you're the one with the three siblings right, one has a white birthmark on her forehead?"
"Page, yeah, and you could call it a birthmark. I have one too," he lifts his shirt to show her, "they're gems, we're magic, half magic on our mothers' sides."
"So you did this?" Connie asked.
"Yeah, Wasn't sure if I was going to get a bubble or my shield, but I couldn't just leave you to get crushed. My whole family are Protectors of the Earth, the Crystal Gems."
"My dad's a protector too, he's a security guard for Funland, well for now." Connie said.
"Oh! The whole reason I came over, Last time I saw you in town was the parade, and you dropped this." He pulls out the bracelet. " I kept it in the freezer so it would keep glowing"
"Thanks," Connie replied, slipping the bracelet onto her wrist. " Um, could you pop the bubble?"
After trying a few times and not succeeding, Steven gave up on releasing his bubble normally, and they rolled off in search of other ways to pop it. They went into town, first to the Big Donut. Lars was being a bully, and Sadie tried popping the bubble with a stool... which broke instead. Then they went down the Boardwalk. When they reached the docks, Connie momentarily forgot she was stuck in a bubble and started excitedly naming off the boats that were in the marina. Steven looked at her curiously and she explained that because she doesn't have friends at school, when her dad is in town, she likes to look at the boats.
"I could be your friend, we all could be. Page even wants you to come over, if you can, after we figure out what's causing the earthquakes." Steven supplied helpfully. Connie nodded and they continued to roll along for a bit until they ran into a small boy. They tried to explain to the kid, Onion, what they needed, Steven trying to draw a harpoon gun. Connie gave him a funny look and then just wrote the words. Onion jumped onto the boat behind him and pointed the sharp weapon at the two older kids. Steven and Connie moved off to the sides of the bubble so they wouldn't get hit, but the harpoon just bounced off the bubble, and hit another boat. Connie lamented the poor skipjack's demise.
They rolled off again towards Funland to see if the accident prone fairway could get them out. they tried the strength test mallet, and the balloon popping station, but both just caused more trouble than solving. Steven had the idea of sitting on the roller coaster track, which frightened Connie, but she let him go through with it anyway. When the carts came down and hit them, it simply launched them into the ocean. After a few minutes of Connie ranting, Steven suggested rolling back towards the shore. While on their way they saw a long worm like creature eating glowing grass on the seabed. The creature saw the kids, and Connie's bracelet, and chased them back on shore. They saw an orange gem in the middle of it's mouth. Once back on shore the bubble popped and the gem monster headed directly for Connie. Steven grabbed the bracelet off her wrist and taunted the monster into chasing him. He wound the creature through the supports of part of the board walk until it got caught on itself. it broke the supports and the boardwalk fell on top of the monster, poofing it. The Gems and kids showed up just as it happened, and Spinel bubbled the gem and sent it off. Page and the twins introduced themselves to Connie and teased Steven. Bismuth congratulated Steven for getting his bubble up in time, and told him next time to find a gem to help him release it if he was having trouble. Steven re-returned the bracelet and was rewarded with a hug. His sibling kept teasing him the whole walk home
