Momo’s father was always the at the top of his school, he skipped 7th and 8th grade because all his teachers thought he was too advanced for his grade. He graduated high school at the young age of sixteen and while he was in high school he met his mate, Aliki. They got together almost as soon as they met and they ended up staying together for 8 years. Even though Aliki was a freshman and Juel was a senior on the verge of graduating they still stayed together while Juel went to college and got his GED. After that he got his bachelors degree in a surprising two and a half years and after that he applied to Oxford University.

Initially they weren’t going to let him in since he didn’t do the full four years of college but since his parents are billionaires they were able to work something out. Since the college was in a different country on a different continent Juel and Aliki would have to be in a long distance relationship but Juel didn’t want to do that. Juel asked Aliki if he would move to the UK with him and surprisingly his parents let him. Juel got Aliki pregnant right after they moved and they were still very young but Juel wanted to marry Aliki. Three years later Aliki graduated from high school and Juel got his Juris Doctor degree and they moved back to America.

Juel purposed as soon as they found out that they were going to have a baby and it was all good until Juel started to become a successful lawyer. They were forced to split up when Momo was five because Aliki’s family didn’t like the fact that Juel was becoming a household name. They were worried that all of Juel’s success would put their son in danger and since they were so young when they had Momo his parents still had that authority over him.

Juel kept trying to reassure them that Aliki would be safe but they wouldn’t budge and when the time came Aliki decided to let Momo live with Juel so that he could have a good life. A year later Juel married somebody else and had a daughter but it was pretty obvious that he only married her because his parents wanted him to. Juel was 20 when Aliki and him broke up and right after that his family pressured him to get married because it would make them look good. Momo didn’t notice it until he got older but the only time his father actually looked happy was when he spoke to Aliki. As Momo was growing up he went back and forth between his parents houses. Momo always knew that his mom didn’t make a lot of money so he could never understand why his house was always so big. Even after they split Juel always made sure that Aliki had a nice house to live in and he took care of everything for him. When Momo was little he didn’t understand why his parents didn’t live together and even now that’s he’s 19 years old he still can’t fully understand why they’re not together.

And even now that Juel and Aliki are both in their thirties, it’s obvious that they are still in love. Even though it’s apparent to everybody that Juel and Aliki still want to be with each other Juel continues to stay married with the women who he only married for a social image. Even his wife knows that she’s not wanted by her own husband and she doesn’t like that. She’s always had hate in her heart for Aliki ever since her and Juel got together. Juel doesn’t even try to make it seem like he cares for her. Before he always came home late and when he was there he only spoke to Momo and his sister and now that Momo has moved out he never comes home and whenever he does it’s to pick up Blue (Momo’s little sister) and then they don’t come back for days.

His wife was never mean to Momo even though she hated his mother. As a matter of fact she absolutely loved Momo, she saw Momo as the one thing that kept her and Juel together but now that Momo moved out she’s scared. She knows that the only reason that Juel has stayed with her this long is because they had Momo and Blue.

She’s tries to blame Aliki for everything in a attempt to cope with it but she knows that it’s really her. While on one hand she blames Aliki for her marriage problems, on the other she blames herself for all of it. She can’t help but notice the thought in the back of her mind that she tries so hard to ignore. Every night that Juel spends away from her makes the thought of her being the problem consume her more and more.
