CHAPTER-3
Good Hell! He was here already! Corvina had gone straight to Blood Moon to drink her sadness away, but she had not expected to die so quickly. Here was Death standing in front of her like a pompous pig, as if he had every right to take away her precious life. So she did the first thing that came to her mind, scream. Scream in such horror that even Death would think much too insane to fit him. She was too mad to die. Seeing his perfect features wince at her banshee like scream, she felt satisfied. Then she did the second thing which came to her mind, hurl any object which could be used as ammunition at him. The closest thing to her was her mocktail glass, so she took it and threw it with as much force she could muster. She saw it fly across the air, aiming right at his head, when middle of its path, it burst into an aquamarine supernova of glass shard and the blue drink. Corvina gasped, he had done that. She saw his face through the kaleidoscope of shattered glass, his beautiful face, all planes and angle, his silver hair and moon like eyes. His tall lanky figure, similar to that of a long shadow cast at twilight. There was something old, and evil, about him, like that of the darkest of dark magic. But how could something so dark, be so hauntingly beautiful? That was great poetic thought, but Corvina tried to contain herself from being distracted. She had a plan to accomplish : Defeat Death 101. So she took her diamond hair pin, and threw it at him, right at his heart. Death would have to die for her to live. The diamond pin, like a short and sharp blade, flew across space between them, and embedded itself in its heart. Corvina’s eyes widened, had she won? Why did she feel guilty then? No, no, death had to die. Thanatos chuckled, a sweet an eerie sound, like siren calling to its victims in the vast sea. Corvina saw the diamond pin disintegrate into a million shattered pieces, scattering in the floor, radiating the florescent lighting of the club. Of course, it had been too easy, how could she kill a God, a entity which existed before time, a force of nature? He took a step forward, and Corvina raised her hand to stop him.
“Hold up right there. Keep a minimum of ten metres of social distance.”, Corvina said, hiccupping a little because of the drinks she had. How was she supposed to fight Death drunk? Life was not fair! But to think of it, nor was death. Thanatos stopped in his tracks, his emotionless face, looked around the club with disgust, before facing Corvina with an incredulous expression. Wait, Death had expressions?!
“Have you been ditched in your wedding Witch? Wait, that’s not important actually, how can you see me?”, his voice was low, and electrified Corvina like streaks of lightning in the stormy sky.
“Witch?! I know your Death and all, but isn’t it too much to badmouth me? Albeit I did try murdering you a few times, but I was not successful was I? And do I look like the person to be ditched on their wedding?! Open those damn eyes of yours! Who would ditch me? And where did the wedding even come into the topic?”, Corvina was enraged, how dare he badmouth her? At least let her die with dignity!
Thanatos looked at her as if she was completely insane, as though she had just escaped from a lunatic asylum. So what if she had? Who was he to judge her? She huffed, like an angry chick.
“You are literally a witch, and your attire is like that of a bride. And you are all alone in a disgusting dingy club, crying-.”
“Blood Moon is not Dingy!”
“Crying and trying to kill innocent passer byes, so its only rational to think you were rejected on your Wedding day!”, Thanatos exclaimed exasperated.
Well she was a witch. So he didn’t try to badmouth her. Oops, her bad.
“Innocent passer by my foot! We all know why you came here! Rational? As if. I assure you, I will never be rejected on my Wedding day..”, she scoffed.
“If I live till then.”, she added on second thought.
“What am I here for?”, he asked cluelessly.
Why was he playing little red riding hood when he was the big bad wolf?
“To take my soul of course! Why else would Death come?”, she gave him a look which asked him if he was dumb. He just gave her a confused look on return.
“Your name is not there in my list of souls to collect. You are Corvina Nightfall right? You are not meant to die anytime soon.”, he sated plainly.
How did he know her name? Oh, he was a God. Right. But none of this made sense. How was she talking to Death about her possible Death like they were discussing the weather?
“But.. its my destiny…why else would you come here?”, she was getting more confused by the second, and by the look on his face, so was he.
“Your Destiny? I just came here to collect a gift, I promise, I did not come her for work.”, he said earnestly.
“Well on the night of Dies Irae, in lake Irae I saw your face in the lake. So it must be my destiny to die right? How else can you be my destiny?”, what was happening? Was the lake by any chance faulty? Was there a glitch in her destiny? Corvina fervently prayed that was the case. Thanatos lowered his head, his face deep in thought. Good Hell, he looked perfect while doing that as well. Life was not fair to make Death more beautiful than her.
“Gift….Destiny…..Death….No name on the list….”, Thanatos mumbled. Suddenly it seemed as though realisation dawned him, and the halo of its horror harrowed him. Corvina still did not know what was going on. He jerked his head up and look at her with wide, terror filled eyes, and grabbed a mocktail glass from a random man beside him and threw at Corvina, screaming loudly. How ironic the situation was, their roles had been reversed. Sadly Corvina did not have fast reflexes nor some extraordinary force protecting her, so the glass smashed on her head. Ouch, that hurt. Before she could open her mouth to curse him, he blurted out,
“Damned pits of Tartarus! You can not be my ‘Gift’ or Destiny! I refuse, I want a refund.”
