It felt like my heart was breaking. I thought I meant more to them than that. I thought Gwen and I had started to become pretty good friends. “No.” I started to feel the tears coming on, despite as much as I tried to hold them back. “That can’t be true.” I shook my head in disbelief.
“Oh.” Aero chuckled. “Then tell me this, why are you here?” He gestured around to our surroundings, the unfamiliar castle.
“I-“ I began but Aero cut me off.
“Let me answer that for you. I thought about killing you, but you’ve got me intrigued. In short my kingdom also needs a Queen.” He acted like the decision to choose a queen wasn’t anything.
“Uh what?” I stopped crying momentarily due to the shock of the sentence I just heard. I glanced around confused. Was he talking to me? "Ohhhhh I get it. You want me to find a queen for you." Without even pausing to let him get a word in I continued speaking. "Or do you need me to rescue your queen? Is she stuck in a tower with a fire breathing dragon? Or is she lost in a magical forest and needs someone to rescue her?"
Aero didn't seem amused at all. "Ugh would you shut up and listen before I have second thoughts about sparing your life?" He leaned in and placed a finger on my chin, lifting it up. "You're my new queen. The girl from another world." He let go of my chin and walked away dramatically, throwing his arms into the air. "Death or marriage." He simply stated.
“Death or marriage.” I repeated like a parrot. My mind felt empty and numb. I don’t know what came over me, but I just decided to run for it. Death would be better than being stuck with a man you hate for the rest of your life right? He'd probably get bored with me and just kill me anyway. I sprinted as fast as I could, though not the cross country runner I used to be, I was pretty fast, but Aero was faster. He caught up with me like I was just walking.
"I see you have made your choice." His eyes looked cold and lifeless. "Guards take her down to the dungeon. She made her choice."
"Shit." I whispered under my breath, that didn't go how I wanted it to.
The guards took me down to a dank and musty smelling dungeon. It was cold and uncomfortable compared to the rest of the castle, it's obvious not many people come down here. I was placed in an empty cell, well more like pushed into a cell. I stumbled backward and landed on my palms, making them bloody and raw. The guards brought out their swords.
I didn't even notice Aero was following behind the guards until he spoke up. "I'll give you one last chance. Me, or death?"
"Ugh. " I grumbled, playing through each scenario in my head. I guess I have more chance if I go for it, I mean death isnt ideal."Fuck." I grumbled.
"Such harsh words for a lady, are you sure she's suited to be a Queen?" One of the guards asked, bringing his sword closer.
"Yeah what he said!" I countered.
Aero glared at everyone and snarled. "Are you questioning my judgement?! She's from another world! She could bring prosperity to our kingdom!"
That gave me a chuckle, I couldn't even bring prosperity to my bank account. However, he was obviously losing patience as he drew his own sword. I held up my hands in defeat. "Fine fine! I'll be the Queen." Again. I thought to myself. What is wrong with this world?!
