The boy had a sharp stinger, Okarg cursed, and that changed things. He had hoped the rusted metal stuck in Malach was all the weapons their prey had, but now three of them wielded some kinds of sharp things.
But they were not the Alvaine he had feared before, just mere Humaine fools playing at a dreaded legend.
And his plan was working. Leragh and Graga circled the three that had weapons and danced around them, taunting and leering, and drawing them away into the surrounding bushes.
The other two, the females with crowns of gold and fire, were backing away from the conflict. He grunted at Okana and the mated pair moved in, trapping their prey between them and the thick trees behind.
The golden haired one suddenly dived to the left and rolled to her feet, shouting something to the other one before she turned and disappeared into the bushes. Okana lunged at the older one, fangs and claws bared.
Okarg left his mate to her kill and loped off after the golden haired one as she ran through the high grass.
His heart pounded fast. The thrill of the hunt filled him with a familiar blood rush, he felt more alive than ever.
