Taunena’s eyes were blazing red, mad with rage to avenge her mate and to protect her offspring. She hit the injured Malach hard, taking him down and pinning him to the ground.
She was a strong female, even though she had just birthed, and she held down the struggling Malach fast.
The blade buried deep in Malach’s groin weakened him, but he was a stronger, being a male, and Okarg feared that his larger mass and strength would eventually give him advantage over her.
He rose to his feet, eager to rush in beside Taunena and finish the job when a dark shadow fell over the struggling pair.
The shadow loomed over the scuffling Laichanan before him, a strong scent of mountains and rain filled his senses. Okarg felt the chilling rush of fear course all through his body.
The giant shadow was swinging something heavy downwards - the heavy deadly sharpness that every Laichanan feared, and for good reason.
Taunena’s head bounced off the rocks, spraying blood, and came rolling over to rest before him. Her glassy lifeless eyes stared at him blankly.
