Dean and Billie stood on the flat boulder on the quieter side of the lake, the wolves were happily splashing about in the water.
"They're like big puppies!" Billie shouted in delight as Anna ran up to him, shaking her fur and drenching his sun-heated skin.
"Come on," Dean said, holding out his hand towards Billie and gesturing to the water.
"Swimming with wolves," Billie laughed as he allowed himself to get tugged into the lake. "Who'd have thought huh?"
Dean grinned as he slung himself up on top of Dolores, his fingers buried in the fur at the back of her neck.
"Oh my god - are you seriously riding that wolf right now?" Billie exclaimed but quickly turned around to swim towards Anna, letting her snuffle at his ear before he swung up and laid himself flat against her back.
"I'm not going to weigh her down am I?" Billie asked anxiously, "I really don't want to drown one of my favourite acts!"
Dean laughed loudly as Billie looked over to him, it was a wonderful sight, the other boy looked so relaxed and carefree, throwing his head back so his neck was exposed, the skin peppered with water droplets, reflecting in the sun.
"You're fine Billie - they can take a lot more weight that you."
"This is amazing," Billie sighed contentedly as he leaned down to place a big fat kiss on the top of Anna's head. She yapped in response and paddled forwards towards Dean and Dolores.
The third wolf, James, had gotten out of the water and was now sat up on the rock eyeing them all like they were being simply infantile.
"Woah!" Billie laughed as Dean wobbled on top of Dolores, nearly losing his balance. Billie reached out to steady him, wrapping his fingers around Dean's bicep.
"Reckon I could stand up?" Billie asked Dean with a playful look.
Dean shrugged, "You could try."
Billie took a deep breath as he slipped his feet up onto Anna's water-soaked back, his toes curling into the fur as he raised himself up shakily into a standing position, his arms outstretched wide.
"Success!" Billie cried as he stood on top of the lazily paddling wolf. He grinned down at Dean who was laughing and clapping when suddenly James decided to canon-ball into the water with a howl.
Billie felt himself toppling backwards with a shriek before he smacked into the frothing water and strong arms clasped around him, dragging him back to the surface.
The two boys remerged from the lake as Dean pulled a hiccoughing and spluttering Billie up onto the rock.
"Damn wolf!" Billie mock shouted as he shook his fist at the very unremorseful looking wolf who was now swimming in animated circles.
"Hey," Billie said, turning to Dean. "That's the second time you've caught me now!"
Dean rolled his eyes as he laid back on the rock and raised his arm over his face. Billie fell quiet as he let his gaze track down the chiselled contours of Dean's body, hardened and muscular from work as a manual labourer.
A dark line of hair trailed down below the hemline of Dean's underwear and the damp fabric was clinging tightly over every curve...
"You okay Billie?" Dean asked suddenly, making him jump.
"Ah yeah! Why?" Billie tried to force a carefree smile.
"You weren't talking," Dean replied with a small smirk as Billie humphed and batted at his shoulder.
"There you boys are!" came Lola's voice from behind them.
"Ugh - please don't tell me the train is fixed already?" Billie groaned, leaning back on his elbows and pouting at the red-head.
"No - we've lost Dahlia."
"Clara's snake?" Billie frowned, "Where did you last see her?"
"The lake..." Lola began before a loud scream emanated from across the other side of the waters.
"Oh, it's okay, I think we just found her," Lola smiled widely before eyeing Billie and Dean with a curious expression.
"Well have fun boys, I'm going to go see if I can convince Raymond to come play with me and Viv."
Lola flicked her hair over her shoulder in her signature move as she turned away, only this time it had the added effect of showering them both in cold water. Dean hissed as the drops hit his chest.
Billie laughed, "Raymond huh? Alright for some - that guy's been walking around like the cat who's got the cream." Billie stopped suddenly at Dean's questioning expression.
"I mean..er, sorry man, that's your sister."
Dean suddenly sat up, "Raymond is what with my sister?"
Dean looked so horrified that Billie couldn't help the snort he let out before patting the other boy on the back, "It's okay buddy, Lola will keep him in check, trust me, she used to date one of the twins before it turned out he was an asshole - she broke his nose. That's how you can tell them apart actually, Willard has like this small bump-"
"Wait...who's going out with whom?" Dean exclaimed, sitting up further and frowning at Billie.
Billie laughed, "Lola, Raymond and your sister. I wouldn't fret about it though, honestly man. I know Raymond can seem a bit distant, but he's really a decent guy, he always tries to cover for us with Salvatore and he's a really good stage manager."
Billie trailed off as he saw the look Dean was giving him, "You okay there buddy?"
"I knew Viv liked Lola," Dean said suddenly, a wide smile creeping over his face as he shook his head.
"And you're okay with that right?" Billie asked nervously, "I mean...you don't have a problem with that sort of relationship?"
Dean's head snapped up, his expression hardened, "No. Why? Do you?" he demanded.
"No!" Billie exclaimed, raising his hands in a placating gesture, "Lola's my best friend - and I mean, she's always accepted me..."
Billie watched as Dean's eyebrows raised up to near his hairline as he evidently realised what Billie was implying. Suddenly, there was a loud horn noise bellowing across the lake making them both jump.
"Rats - sounds like the train's ready to go again," Billie said quickly, jumping to his feet and gesturing to the still swimming wolves. "We should probably get these pups back on board."
Dean's mouth was still hanging open as he nodded silently, standing to turn away from Billie and haul the wolves back into shore.
Billie took a deep steadying breath and plastered on his best 'everything is normal and nothing is awkward' smile before Dean looked back round with a still curious expression.
