"Who's there?" The beautiful singing voice stopped, turning into a voice fully on guard. Yvie still couldn't get a clear look on where this voice was coming from, or what it was coming from, but even though the voice was on guard, she sensed profound kindness in it. If she had tear ducts as a snake, she would be crying at this incredibly warm feeling that arose in her, blooming as she gave time to fully understand it.
'Let's go' Yvie hissed at the Lizard, feeling no doubts that there was going to be no harm done to them.
The Lizard, however, was not so sure about the situation.
"I'm staying here until you come back alive" It whispered, as it was afraid the voice could hear it. The first place it had been with Yvie had gotten it nearly killed. The second place, it had been treated like a bucket. There was no telling what would happen to it now.
'Suit yourself' Yvie answered, as she swam towards the voice.
As she slithered through the moonlight, the spotlight was following her every muscle move. As it was shining on her, the shadow in the distance was still unclear.
Yvie blinked for a moment, upon opening her eyes, noticing something had changed. The light had shifted. As if the moon had a will on its own, it had started to light up the being, that was suddenly almost directly in front of her, even though it had seemed so long away just a second ago.
"Oh, Yvie! I've been waiting for you!" The kind voice dropped all sense of hostility, as Yvie once again felt the warmth from it.
'Huh?' Yvie wondered, as she let herself think for a moment.
'How does it know my name?' She hissed, looking at the beautiful being now directly in front of her.
Scales, much like her own in color and shine, however, much different in placement and texture, was shining directly on her from a little pile of sand, much like the one she had rested on herself some time ago. Though this one felt different.
But there was another half, not covered in scales. A human torso, arms and head.
"A MERMAID?" Yvie shrieked out of excitement, not being able to contain herself as she immediately turned back into a girl, forgetting she didn't actually know how to swim in that form.
A splash and a second later, the mermaid had jumped down to her, grabbing Yvie, pulling her back up, and putting her safely on the sand.
"Oh, you know what I am?" The Mermaid asked with a bright smile, loosening the clothes from Yvie's back.
"Just a moment, I'll dry this for you" The Mermaid said, as she dived down into the water.
Yvie wanted to speculate about how 'drying' could happen under water, but she was currently too busy with taking in the entire situation as it was. A certain feeling of kinship had been building up inside of her, as she had seen the white fish scales, shining almost, if not exactly, as brightly as her own. She had seen how the moon had followed the both of them, in a way where it was hard to tell herself it was her own imagination. She had nearly drowned as a girl, being saved by the warm embrace of another being.
'Was that… A hug?' Yvie wondered, feeling tears blend together with the saltwater that was still embracing her with a cool touch.
She almost didn't get to finish the thought, as the mermaid appeared within a splash, just a moment later.
"Here" she said, helping a confused Yvie put on the dry clothes.
"?" Yvie conveyed through her gestures, as she wasn't sure what was going on. She felt safe and warm, despite the biting coolness of the night, but she was also filled to the brim with even more questions pressing than before.
"Oh, sorry. I don't usually get many visitors here" The mermaid said, as she picked up on Yvie's confusion, seeping out from her eyes.
"I think an introduction might be in place… I'm Aqua. Nice to finally meet you, Yvie" Aqua said, as Yvie felt herself regain a bit of the ability to think clearly.
"How do you know my name?" She asked, as she looked at the mermaid in front of her. The tail was still shining below the water, though the moonlight couldn't quite hit it there. She was bearing the same scales on top of her chest as well, being a part of her.
'She's kind of like me… But not quite' Yvie thought to herself, once again feeling the weird sense of familiarity to this stranger, being lulled by the voice.
"The Moon told me" Aqua said, making Yvie feel a bit silly for asking, with her tone of voice.
'Huh? The Moon? The moon can't talk!' Yvie found herself thinking just as she had resigned to being the weird one for having doubts. Now she once again felt confused from this strange answer.
"The Moon?" Yvie asked, trying to get a clearer picture. How did the moon know?
"Ah, yes, silly. The Moon. She knows everything" Aqua said, smiling, lulling Yvie into agreeing with just her voice once again.
There was something weird going on, but Yvie couldn't quite put her finger on it.
"RIGHT! The dry clothes! How did you dry it under water?" Yvie wanted to know, as she felt satisfied to finally be able to ask a question to someone.
"Oh, that? I just put it in an air bubble, which I moved around really fast, and look at that!" Aqua said proudly, as she made a water bubble appear, gesturing with her hands, controlling it as if she had never done anything else.
"MAGIC!" Yvie shrieked, excited. She had always thought it existed, as she couldn't find any other explanation for her becoming a snake, as well as some of her recent experiences. But other than that, she had still never actually seen it in true action.
Aqua continued to spread her fingers with one hand, while holding the bubble in place with the other. A little shake of the hand made an air bubble appear withing the water bubble, as she demonstrated what she had just told.
"This? Hmm… I wouldn't really call this magic…" Aqua mumbled through her sentence, sounding like she was looking for another word.
"However, I guess calling it 'Magic' isn't all wrong either" She slowly dropped the water bubble back to the sea, making it splash a bit around as it hit the surface.
