Yvie got a bit confused at this.
'How can something be both magic and not magic?' She found herself wondering, as the water from the water bubble hit her, tickling her cheek as it ran down, making her realize she wasn't crying anymore.
"More than magic, it's just… Nature? The way things are supposed to be?" Aqua tried, as she saw Yvie not fully understanding what she was trying to convey once again.
"Speaking of the way things are supposed to be… Where is your guide? Wasn't it supposed to be with you?" Aqua asked, looking a bit around. Yvie looked around as well, until she realized Aqua probably meant the lizard.
"Ah. It was scared, so it stayed behind. That way, I think" Yvie said, pointing at the way she thought she came from, a bit annoyed, again wondering how Aqua could know about this, as well as why she was calling the useless lizard a 'guide'. If anything, burden was more suiting. So far, Yvie had felt like the actual guide.
She did feel a bit guilty not hearing the Lizard out, but she didn't think it would be this much of a pain to bring it along. It sounded much more confident in the cavern, after all. Like it was an all-knowing being. So how did it turn into a little wuss, only capable of being bait and a bucket?
"Could you go get it? The more the merrier. I so rarely have company here" Aqua squeaked, almost singing her words as she got more and more into what she was saying. Yvie felt conflicted. The familiarity and sense of connection she felt to Aqua was something she had never felt before. She didn't feel ready to share this yet. She didn't want to lose it.
"Don't worry. The two of us can still talk" Aqua assured Yvie, almost as if she could read her mind. This made Yvie feel safe, coupled with the kind voice, and Yvie went to get the Lizard. She took off her clothes, so it wouldn't get wet again, and changed to a snake.
Finding the Lizard didn't take long. It followed rather easily, as it had gotten tired, and Yvie mentioned the pile of sand, on which it could rest.
After getting back, the Lizard scowled at Aqua, who responded with a smile. It immediately knew it didn't like her, but not quite why. Like her existence made it uneasy.
"Why did the water burn?" Yvie asked, after having settled with the Lizard, changed to a girl, as well as taken on the clothes again, feeling a bit refreshed.
"Oh that?" Aqua confirmed, pointing around them.
"It's just to keep predators away" She said, cupping her hands, filling it with water. White light bubbled up from it, as she stared in a daze for a while, holding it tightly, not spilling a drop.
"Here" She said, holding it forward to Yvie, who stuck a finger into it, and tasted on the water her finger had absorbed.
"It's sweet!" She said, as she once again stuck her finger in the little hand-held pool, to get some more.
"How did you do that?" Yvie asked, once again excited at being able to question things. The water had been sweet, almost as if the salt had turned into sugar.
"Like this, I can make the water change properties" Aqua answered. Her pride seeped out along with her words, as her eyes sparkled, almost as much as her tail.
"But HOW?" Yvie once again inquired, feeling like her question had been left out to dry, while a question she didn't ask got answered in it's place.
"Hmmmm… I just can… Since it's the natural state of things" Aqua tried explaining. First now, Yvie noticed how the entire conversation had felt out of place. How she had been so caught up in the kindness and warmth she felt, that she didn't notice the incoherent way they had been speaking.
Like both of them were having two different conversations, only once in a while overlapping with each other. Her mind felt clearer. Her logic felt like it was slowly waking up, telling her that the weird feeling she had wasn't instinct, but more of a little voice inside of her head, telling her that things didn't quite made sense.
She still didn't feel like she was in any danger, but maybe she wasn't as safe as she thought she was, either. Just like how the 'magic' both was and wasn't magic. Things could be and not be. It wasn't either or. There could be a third option. A middle path.
'How did I not realize this before?' Yvie asked herself as she looked around, trying to take in the situation from this new point of view.
She confirmed the things she knew. The being in front of her was a mermaid who claimed to know who she was, as well as being able to talk to the moon.
With this settled, she tried to figure out what she didn't know. Something that seemed even harder. After a while of thinking, Yvie finally came up with an answer for herself.
'I don't know if she speaks the truth' Yvie thought to herself, nodding in an understanding matter, as this fact felt like it totally took away the things she thought she knew in a heartbeat.
'Meaning… Once again, I don't know anything' Yvie concluded, feeling like she hadn't moved forward at all, but also feeling like she reached this answer much faster than she did last time.
'Does me admitting to not know anything once again, make me know just a little bit more?' She asked herself with a laugh, forgetting about her surroundings, as time went by in her head.
'So… What now?' Yvie asked, getting a sense of deja vu that felt oddly calming. Having made up her mind, she finally looked around her with new eyes, and a clear mind.
"Can we talk? Properly?" Yvie asked. This question was the best she could come up with to convey her thoughts. If she felt like the previous conversation hadn't been a proper conversation, it made sense for her to ask to have one, instead.
Yvie had never properly communicated with anyone. Her parents had never asked for her opinion, nor had she given it to them on her own violation. She simply didn't know she could. With the Lizard, they ended up bickering all the time, but somehow was on the same wavelength.
"Oh! I thought you'd never ask" Aqua said. The kindness behind her words was still there, but it felt a bit different to Yvie. Like it was more of a concrete feeling, than something wrapping itself around her.
"Keep me out of it" The Lizard shot in groggily, as it turned around itself, going to sleep. It just wanted to be noticed, as it felt a bit ignored.
