Sam has a wood carving business. He can make anything out of wood. His business is so popular that he gets a lot of orders. He needs help, so he gave me my first job. He has shown me how to do basic carves and then he would finish up with the fine details.
I didn't realize there are so many different kinds of wood and they all have their own color and smells. I just want to chew on the sticks all day long. My favorite is sugar maple. It has this nice light brown color. Whenever I look at the wood, it gives off this warm cozy feeling.
I got the hang of doing the basic carvings, but I'll never be as good as Sam. I can't believe how beautiful his wood carvings are. He's able to do these masterpieces without any eye sight. Each carve that he makes into the wood is so precise that he couldn't carve any better than if he had his sight.
I’m helping him get ready for the Market that he goes to every year in the fall. This year, he has had more orders than ever that he was falling behind in getting ready for the Market. The Market's a place where different sellers sell items for low prices to try to get more business.
"So, why are you going this year? Don't you have enough business?" I ask, wondering why he would want more work while he's already being overworked.
"Ya can't have enough business, ya know? Plus, it's my tradition. Now, hurry up and start loading up the truck, boy. We gotta leave soon." Sam replies looking like he's getting stressed with getting everything together to put in the truck.
The Market is in the town, which is a two hour drive away from where we live. The other day. he had shown me on a map of where we would be going. I noticed that the next town away was near the beach, which was a shock that a winter werewolf like me is so close to a sandy beach, but remembering that makes me laugh out loud.
"What’s so funny, boy?" Sam questions, breaking my thoughts.
"Oh, I was just thinking we are going to be close to the beach, and was wondering if you ever went to the beach?" I couldn’t really picture Sam being a beach lover.
"I have, but I like my woods here. They're better than any sand. Do ya want to go? There is a great college in that town and I actually know someone that would be going there next year. They can help ya get all yar things ya need to get in, if ya're interested in it?"
I want to go to college, but I never really thought I could achieve it. But, with him mentioning there might be a possibility of going, I start to get really excited about it.
"Well, I don't really have any schooling, I had told you that my family lived in the wilderness." I inform him making sure he knew that I wouldn't have any education filed away in the system.
But if he knew, he might be able to get me in the system the same way the regular werewolves do. Werewolves that live with humans have their own ways of blending in like making false records when needed. I don't know how they make them, but since Sam mentioned to me about going to school he can help me get a false record for my schooling.
"I'm sure that's not going to be a problem. Now, help me load this." He hands me one of his beautiful wood carvings. Since he changed the topic so quickly, I couldn't catch what he was thinking about that could get me in college.
After we load all the wood carvings in the truck, we start off to the market. I realize that I’m overly warm and my body starts to ache. Dread washes over me, I know this feeling, if my guess is right?
Last year around this time, I started feeling like this, and soon my female wolf arose from her slumber. That time when I transformed into her, I was in control better than my first time.
The first time I transformed, my body didn't ache or get warm. Maybe because I was in my male wolf form? It's body is stronger than my human form.
The second time when I realized that my female wolf was up, I started to panic because I knew that she was going to take control and come out. Sam was nearby at the time, and I didn't want to scare him with an unknown wolf present.
To my surprise, I was able to hold down the fort, but I could feel her trying to gain control every passing minute.
Luckily, Sam needed to go for one of his monthly runs. When he left, I transformed into my female wolf before she could take over. I was so happy that I didn't lose control to her.
Good, we are improving the master relationship that I am supposed to have with my wolves. She is supposed to listen to me, and not drag me around like an untrained hyper dog on a leash. At least I was able to pick when we transformed.
I had a good run in my female wolf form. She was as graceful on her feet as I remembered from the first time I had transformed into her. The run calmed her down and satisfied her, so I could change back into my human form. Right away, she returned to her slumber and hasn't woken up until now.
Maybe it takes a lot of strength to change my gender when I transform into her. Is that why she goes to sleep for a long time?
If my memory serves me right, both times that she woke up was in the fall and at night. But, this time it's still fall, but morning. She is awake earlier than normal. I take note of it and wonder why she's woken up so earlier than the times before. Maybe she's growing stronger? I'm starting to worry that I might not be able to hold control over her before we get back to the house from our day at the Market.
