~Five Years later~
"Seraph! Get your butt to the kitchen for breakfast! We have to go out early to train!" Sylas yelled from outside the door.
"I know, dad, one second," I grumbled, pulling the blanket over my head.
I spent the whole night reading books from the study. Ever since Cathleen, or rather my mother taught me how to read, I had been spending all of my free time learning the ways of this world. I still remembered the events from five years ago, and I still remembered my identity as the crown prince. Nevertheless, I enjoyed living a quiet life much more. I slipped on some socks and walked into the kitchen, rubbing my eyes. My dark black hair was a complete mess from sleeping.
"We need to cut your hair soon, Ser." My mother said, brushing my long hair out of my eyes.
"No thanks mom, I kinda want to grow it out like dads," I said, pointing to Sylas's or my father's sleek black hair that reached his collarbone.
Dad laughed and ruffled my hair. "You're a good kid."
I looked up at him and smiled. Despite not being their biological child, I looked frighteningly similar to Sylas, from our ivory skin color to our hair color. I looked like his son, well, except for my eyes.
"Hey Ser, can you go wake up your sister?" Mom asked me.
"Sure! Only if I get an extra piece of meat at breakfast." I remarked.
"Your one odd five-year-old. Your speech is much more developed than your sisters when she was your age," Dad said in a voice loud enough for her to hear.
"Lorena, wake up, you log!" I burst into her room and elbowed her in the ribs.
"Ack- what the heck, Ser! let me sleep in!" She swatted my small hand away.
I climbed up onto her bed and sat at the edge. "Dad and I are leaving early this morning to start my combat training, so we wanted to eat together," I whined, shaking her foot.
"Persistent brat..." Lorena said, sitting up and ruffling my hair.
"Thanks, Lorey!" I said in a mocking voice.
"I'm gonna get you for that, you brat!" Lorena reached out to grab my arm, but I ran out of the room before that could happen.
"I hope you didn't tease your sister too much, Ser." Mom pulled out a chair and motioned for me to sit down.
I flopped down at the table and sighed quietly. I stared at the full plate of food in front of me. The first few weeks I was here, my parents struggled to feed all of us, but they soon got gold from the royal palace. Ever since then, we have lived a modest and relaxed lifestyle. Even so, I still couldn't get used to a full plate of food, even after 5 years. The 16 years I spent on the streets, I barely managed to survive... well, until I didn't. I was genuinely thankful for what I had. I preferred this lifestyle rather than having extravagant meals and going to fancy dinner parties in the royal palace. I never liked the attention. That was another thing that probably would never change, but even so, I did secretly study manners in my room. I assumed it would come in handy one day.
"Lorena, your food is going to get cold.." Dad called out.
"I know I'm sorry, father." Lorena mocked.
She was 10 years old but already had the attitude of an angsty teenager. I couldn't help but smirk at her response. My dad glared at me and sighed.
"What am I going to do with you kids..." He rested his chin on his hand and looked out the window.
"Wow, Lorena, you look like you didn't sleep a wink." Mom walked over to hug her daughter.
"Yeah, well, my classes dont start until mid-day, but you felt it was necessary to wake me up before sunrise to see my brother and father off to a secret training session." She sighed and slumped down into the chair.
"Yeah, mom was right; you dont look so good right now," I smirked, poking my sister in her side.
"Oh, I'm sorry I can't be as drop-dead-gorgeous as my stunning little brother." She stuck out her tongue at me and turned away.
We all finished eating, and I slipped on a black shirt and some loose fitted pants and hurried out the door with my dad. It was still pitch black outside. I had only started training less than a week ago. Still, my parents were extra cautious with me, even on a new continent. I had never met the neighbors, and when my sister brought her friends home, either I was told to stay and study in my room, or my dad took me to do some extra training. I didn't mind, though. I had a family that loved and cared for me, and my life was still exciting and full of new experiences.
"Come on, kiddo, we dont want to waste time," Dad said, motioning me to hurry up.
"Yeah yeah, I got it," I mumbled, trailing after him.
