What Once Was

Pilot

Pilot

Dec 02, 2020

The wind blew softly, it was the sort of gentle breeze that one could see themselves enjoying as they sat under a tree on a cool summer evening as they watched the sun set. However, this was no ordinary summer evening. The trees bore no leaves, no birds sang their songs of joy, and no life was being celebrated. The city, and all of the life around it, had all died out long ago and the sand rested on the ground, it had burrowed its way in ages ago.

Atop one of the buildings of the city, sat a woman. Her light brown skin showing slightly under her long jacket draped over her shoulders like a cape with each gust of wind. She peered down onto the Lost Souls that once were human, but could no longer be considered as such. Their old and withered faces drooping like melting plastic, and their bodies were so slim that a single gust of wind seemed as though it would break off all of their limbs.

Even so, they walked. They walked aimlessly, but they walked. They had no purpose, but they walked as though they still had one. It was a sad sight, to see humanity fall to such a state. How did things get this bad?

She grabbed her sniper rifle, stood, and slung it around her shoulder. She tapped around on a screen on her wrist and then grabbed onto a rope she had used to climb up from a hole in the roof and slid down.

As she made contact with the ground below, she pulled out a small radio, pressed down on a button, and spoke softly into it.

“Agent 748 radioing in for check-in,” She said, “No signs of any Reapers, I’ll keep watch for a little while longer,”

The radio made a static noise before a voice responded, “Understood, stay safe, Agent,” They said.

With that, the Agent stuffed the radio into her back pocket and wandered out the back of the building. She wandered towards the setting sun, what a beautiful sight it was. A soft orange succeeded by a deep purple was one of the greatest sights she had ever seen.
