Megan and Lily had a library. The room, which used to be an office Megan told them, had the walls lined with bookcases. They were filled to the brim, both modern and ancient looking books overflowing their wooden prison.
Even though Rose was not much of a reader, she found herself mesmerized by the books' titles. The Magic of Love, How to Find a Familiar, Stargazing for Beginners, she loved them all and wanted to read them all.
"Did you find anything interesting to read?"
Eliza turned to her friend, holding a red book with gold corners.
"Yeah, this one. History of the Salem Witches."
Rose watched her friend suspiciously. She knew Eliza wasn't much a fan of history, boring dates and all.
"Why did you pick that book?"
The witch shrugged.
"I don't know. It just caught my eye."
"Hmmm."
Rose stared at her intensely.
"Really, really! I swear!"
Rose couldn't know what that woman in the void had said to her. She was curious about this whole Salem Witches thing though.
"Fine."
Eliza shot her a grateful smile and sunk into one of the big, plush chairs in the room. She opened the book and studied the index. Most chapters sounded boring, but one stood out to her. Twilight of the Gods. She flipped to it's corresponding page and read the first few lines.
Twilight of the Gods, also know as Ragnarok, is the final battle between the Goddess of Light and the God of Chaos. The Goddess of Light, Theia, is the mother of Helios the Sun, Selene the Moon and Eos the Dawn (who also may be known as Aurora). The God of Chaos, Ahriman, is the bringer of chaos and darkness, and his only goal is complete destruction of the world.
The Witches of Salem are to prevent the rise of Ahriman and the start of the Twilight of the Gods. At all costs they must prevent him from creating a Goddess of Chaos, as she will inherit his powers as well.
Well, at least now she knew what the whole Witch of Salem thing was about. Though the text did raise more questions than that it could give answers. Before she could continue reading, there was a small knock on the door.
"Eliza," It was Megan, "There's a letter for you. The neighbour brought it here, it was delivered wrongly to his house. Did you tell anyone you were here?"
The letter. Crap.
"Ah, sorry, I told my mom," the girl lied, "I asked her for some spells that could maybe help us track Ino."
They had told the two hostesses about their search for Ino's soul. Megan nodded.
"Alright, but don't tell anyone else, okay?"
Eliza took the envelope. It was sealed with red wax. One could think that was kinda old fashioned, but recently crafters had taken a liking to the old ways. On the wax, a small fire symbol was stamped.
"I will, Megan, thank you."
The redhead smiled.
"Also, Lily will be back tonight with your car, Rose."
"Ah, great! I missed my car."
She looked like someone had finally found her long lost lover.
"It really sounds like that car is your girlfriend," Eliza joked.
"It maybe is."
Megan chuckled and then left the girls to bicker on their own.
After a few minutes the two focused their attention back on the letter. They discussed what could be inside.
"We won't really know until we open it though," Rose commented, getting kinda antsy about her friend's hesistation.
"But what if it's a trap?"
"If it is, we'll find a way to get us out."
The girl placed a reasuring hand on the witch's shoulder. Comforted by her words, Eliza finally broke the seal and opened the letter.
Red mist poured out and filled the library. Eliza instinctively grabbed the Grimoire, she was glad she had it with her at all times. You never knew when it would come in handy.
The room was illuminated in a red glow now, the walls slowly fading. Were they being transported or something? With Rose's hand on her shoulder and the black book in her left hand, they were sucked into some kind of vacuum, an uncomfortable force pulling them in at their navels. Then they felt the push on their backs and they were tumbling on a wooden floor.
A familiar voice rang out.
"What the fuck?!"
----
Belle watched the President as she carefully brushed her long black hair. She had had a few calls from Eliza telling her that they would take quite a bit longer than expected. Something about waiting for a new moon and then they had to hide from some angry villagers.
Ino had been in the same catatonic for weeks now. They had been caring for her, feeding her, helping her to the bathroom, clean her. The girls had noticed that she was not fully gone, it was more like she was in some kind of dream state, her body still reacted and functioned like normal. Only her mind was gone.
Then, one day Belle noticed a change. It was late in the evening, and Ino's sorority sisters made preparations to bring her back to bed. Just as they wanted to lift her out of the chair, she said something, with a deep, icy voice that was clearly not hers.
"Prepare for the end of the world, because the Twilight of the Gods is upon us. Hide, fight, and tremble in fear, try everything you want, but there's no way to stop me. Remember my name, because you'll all bow down to me, Ahriman the true God of Chaos!"
Then Ino fell forward, limp and unmoving. Her friends caught her head just in time and hurried her to bed. Belle watched her and saw that her eyes and skin had gotten red and swollen, as if she had cried, but the blonde was sure she hadn't seen a single tear. Something was wrong, very very wrong. All she could do now was to hope Eliza and rose would return soon.
