The two men walked past the streetlights as they slowly began to glow. The moonlight moved in to replace the sun while the stars began waking up from their slumber.
They walked in silence until Earl with remorse in his voice said, “Alder, I’m so sorry if I made you uncomfortable. I didn’t mean to hurt you in any way.”
“There's no reason for you to be sorry.” Alder sighed as they walked inside Alder’s small apartment and sat on the old couch. “I should be the one sorry.” He put his head down looking away from the man sitting next to him.
“I’ve lived my whole life hiding from the world just like my parents. Once I lost them, I had no one left, so I had to find small jobs in London city. One day I met William Moore, the original owner of the flower shop. I would sweep the floors and slowly William taught me to garden, and I began to love flowers again. He was one of the kindest people I have ever met, but it wasn't too long until he passed away. His wife decided to let me become the new owner because she knew it was what he would have wanted. Since then, I have been hiding, it wasn’t until I met you that I realized my life’s been full of fear and sadness.” He stopped and looked over to Earl with tears forming in his eyes.
“I’m so scared. “I don’t even know if I could trust you. But... I have no one else.” His eyes swelled as hot tears rolled down his cheeks.
Earl didn’t know what to say so instead he pulled Alder into a warm hug. Alder wanted to push him away but instead, he buried his head into Earl’s suit jacket and let go. His tears left stains in Earl’s jacket as he lifted his head and wiped his cheeks.
“It’s alright, everything will be ok,” Earl reassured him.
“Follow me,” Alder insisted. They walked outside towards a small garden in Alder’s backyard.
“Can you promise me to keep this secret?”
“Of, course.” Replied Earl.
Alder walked closer to the garden and crouched down near a bunch of pink daisies. With a glance at Earl, he lifted his palms to the roots and both men watched as the flowers grew in the moonlight. Earl walked closer, lending a hand to help Alder up.
“That-” He paused with a gasp of amazement. “That was amazing!” Earl exclaimed.
“Really?” Alder questioned with a bit of uncertainty in his voice. “You don't think I’m weird for having these powers?”
“No way!” He held Alder’s hand as they walked back inside. “I’m so glad you could tell me. It means so much.” He beamed with excitement.
Alder let go of his hand in fear of enjoying it too much. He couldn't lose his only friend because of his love interests.
Earl apologized as Alder let go of his hand. “I didn’t mean to make you uneasy.”
“No, you didn’t,” he replied as Earl looked over with confusion etched on his face.
“Thank you for comforting me. I needed to tell someone.”
Someday this moment will be a time they look back on together with love and laughter. Both Earl and Alder grew the greatest bond that day… Trust.
