A boy who looked exactly like the girl next to him walking together as if they were a twin, or at least that what the people thought as they whispered each other.
Who wouldn't though, they looked alike. The same hair, same eyes and same height, people would passed it off as they were twins. But on the other hand, they're not.
"Liam..." She glared at him and gaining the attention of the said boy.
"What, does it bother you?" He didn't move from his comic after he gained an ability like the things he read. The feeling came from it, it was like he can become something different.
"No, but—..."
"Look, I already study. I know it may not like it but I did. I promise," She shook her head and plopped her body back to the couch. She wished Liam are telling the truth as she didn't want to pry inside his mind, again. Not just that, she wished Liam understood, they may look like twins but who knew what would happen if he would be growing up. It will make things more complicated as his view will changed.
"Ok, I believe you. For now." She motioned towards the table to eat and he nodded. She knew she's was only a shadow but she wanted Liam to be happy, that's the only things she wanted. His ability are amazing as she had her own minds, it's like a separate minds. Weird however they were fine. He named it, doppelganger. It means double walker in German. Something that was quite believed among some people. Apparently, they were right to believe it.
"Hey, Liam! I want to eat crepe." Nadya dragged him out of the room like she didn't care about the fact that Liam hated sweet things. It's one thing about his ability that she discovered, their craving are different severely. He followed her with a harsh glare but still ordered the one with a kiwi and orange. His favorite.
They walked and enjoyed the soft pillow-like sweets as they didn't care about anything except... fate seemed had a strange way to do things.
"Come back here, you rascal!" A sound came from the back before pushing them aside, they saw two distinct person which seemed like a fight happened. No, more like a beating. A little boy fell down as he hit the ground hard, his small backpack opening up and spilling dice everywhere. He tried to stand up but a foot stepped on his back to pin him down. The older man finally held him down. He wore a lot of gold ring on his fingers, it made him more intimidating.
"No, it's mine. I won it fair and square," It looked like the little boy wouldn't give up. His white shirt had bloodstain around the neck, bruised arms from the punch of older man threw and it seemed like he was still going at him. At this rate, he would ended up in a hospital.
"Get up, thief." He lifted his foot momentarily before slamming it down again. He kicked the boy back and smirked.
"It hurts..." The little boy whimpered while he struggled to keep the tears in.
"Pathetic." He said before picking the boy up by his shirt collar and chuckling menacingly.
"P-please, believe me. I didn't cheat," The little boy's voice broke and the tears rolled down, making the older man frowned.
"It didn't seem like it," His struggled was met with a fist on his face. He strucked him again and his pleading form writhed around trying to escape but his struggled were in vain.
"You can't even run, what a useless boy." What he said infuriated Nadya, she shouted at him and trembling with her arms out. She looked unconvincing looking like a scared little girl.
"W-who are you? Are you his friends?!" The man leaned towards her but he didn't get any answer. He lunged with his right hook to Nadya, but it was stopped by an object. A big one at that with structure like dice. It looked heavy, judging from the swollen hand he held down. Liam touched it for a moment, the dice really was heavy.
"Agh!" He screamed in agony, attracting a crowd who had sudden interest knowing what happen. But, the dice was already gone.
"You saw it too right, Liam?" He just nodded. He had a hunch of the little boy who may have caused this. But he found no one there once he turned around.
"Where is he?" Nadya sensed his anxiety, trying to find. They split up, only to find the person already gone. Liam, on the hand didn't give up. He looked around and followed a black figure almost trying to run away frim the scene.
That's him.
"Hey, wait!" The retreating figure startled and hurrying himself to run. His small figure eased his way smoothly through the crowd. But, Nadya was relentless. She pushed her way like it was no problem. She was close enough to grab him and managed to prevent his escape.
"Let go! I didn't do anything." He squirmed and pulled his hand from his pursuer, but he tripped over his shoe laces and he groaned. A white shirt along with black hoodie covered his face who had bloodied lips and purple colored cheeks.
"Nadya, let him go." He commanded but no answer from her. She nodded and let him go, realizing his mistake of hurting him accidentally.
"Are you okay?" The little boy rubbed his pained hands together. He backed away slowly and noticing the both of them who looked alike.
"Who are you?" He waited for a moment before Liam answered.
"Hi, I'm Liam! Liam Feley. This is Nadya. She's my counterpart from my ability. I guess, I'm a Stray too. I mean, you probably realized already..." Liam noticed that he might be making a really bad first impression but this terrible situation about what happened with that man did nothing to make a small talk, especially talking to another Stray.
It was always like this when he got nervous. He never quite sure of what the other boy think of him as he blabbed on as he squirmed and trying to look smaller than him and Nadya. His brown eyes gazed into the little boy azure eyes, who was gazing back before backing down. Maybe Liam was too forceful? But he did not want to leave him here alone, not yet.
"Hi, I'm Nadya. Sorry about before, I'm too excited because of the moment you ran away." That statement got a snort out of Toru. Nadya took that as a good sign and reached out a hand to him. His azure eyes inspecting him like they were a suspicious person, surely he's not wrong. But the said boy grasped her hand.
"I'm Toru. Toru Niles. It was nice meeting you," The azure-eyed boy said with a small smile.
The meeting of a distant child and a lonely boy, blossomed into friendship. Bound by the chain called ability, tied as Stray together making them understand each other than before. That's how their story started.
