“So.. lesson time?” My tone was snarky, I still hadn’t forgotten his insult.
The golden eyes stared back at me, unblinking before turning around and leaving the room. Glancing at the others, I shrugged and followed Alexander out of the room with my brothers and Wyatt following.
“Angels?” Wyatt’s voice halted me in the hallway.
We all turned around to face him to give him a questioning glance.
“I need to see to my mate, let her know what’s happened. I’ll meet with you and the Leo after. The Leo’s office is just down this hallway, the last door on your left.” Hurrying off in the opposite direction, we watched as Wyatt turned the corner and disappeared from our sights.
Clay, form a connection so the four of us can talk while we walk.
Done. What is it you want to talk about?
Wyatt was right, Wrath is influencing his son’s decisions.
Wrath causes berserker rages. Hawk’s logical voice sounded in my head.
So why was he relatively calm in that cage? Flint’s soft voice asked.
I don’t know and that’s worrying me.
At my final sentence, we had reached the door and Clay broke the connection. As tempted as I was to just burst in, I couldn’t tell Hawk he couldn’t then turn around myself and do it. Considering we were also here on behalf of the Protection Pillar, I managed to restrain myself and knock a few times. As I was about to open the door, a female shifter that looked like something out of a playboy magazine strutted out, sparing a withering glare at us. As she walked away, I turned to my brothers and asked, “Wonder what crawled up there and died?”.
All of us chuckling as we walked in, we saw a stonefaced Alexander. Oops, he must have heard our comment about the women that left. Taking a chance to look around, I took note of everything in his office. He sat behind a dark mahogany desk that had pieces of paper scattered across in a nonsensical manner. The walls were a neutral white colour that had various landscapes on them like the hallways did. Various drawers and units lined the walls with shelves above them that were lacking ornaments except one that had a single picture frame on it. Padding across the soft carpeted floor, I studied the picture. In it, an older couple stood hugging a young child. As I looked closer, I could see that the man looked almost identical to the man sitting behind the desk and as I turned around to face Alexander I could tell from the look on his face he didn’t appreciate my study of the picture.
“I want you to tell me all about what happened in the gallery room. Now.” His eyes flashed slightly at the agitation in his voice.
We all turned to meet his stare. Orders? Well, its nothing no one hasn’t tried before. Never works though. His eyes turned a brighter gold showing his unhappiness at being ignored. Slowly, we all walked towards the desk and sat down. Just to annoy him further, Clay put his feet on the desk and his hands behind his head. Sending an irritated glance at Clay, Alexander focused back on me.
“You’re in charge? Explain to me what just happened.”
“I’m in charge for this particular mission, yes.” And I left it at that.
“I have almost 200 shifters in this compound that I’m responsible for. Explain.”
“I would…but…” Yes, I was drawing this out but he had annoyed me so I didn’t really care.
“But what?”
“Efficiency dictates she wait.” As always, Hawk’s tone was emotionless.
“So, the others can talk?” Alexander’s voice was sarcastic.
“Oh, we can talk, when we have things to say. But we’re okay taking Autumn’s lead on this one.” Flint’s usually quiet tone had a hint of coldness in it.
I take it Flint doesn’t like Alexander?
Nope. Neither do I.
Chuckling slightly at that, I caught Alexander’s attention once more. Sighing, I took pity on the bloke.
“I’ll explain all as soon as Wyatt gets here. You may be the Leo, but I’ll only repeat myself once. As it stands, you both need to hear what we have to tell you.”
Alexander took his time searching each of our faces, glancing once at Clay’s dirty motorcycle style boots on his desk, before looking me in the eye. Shame he was such a knob, he really was quite the looker. Giving a deep sigh, he nodded.
“Apologies, if I seem… tense. I’m not particularly fond of angels, for personal reasons and I’m responsible for a lot of lives. The combination is not conducive to a friendly attitude.” I was surprised that he apologised, not many shifters, Alphas at that, would apologise.
“That’s all right, I’m not particularly fond of shifters myself.” I sent him a sickly sweet smile, “For personal reasons.”
Hearing the door open and close behind us, I remained looking at Alexander in front of me. As I heard Wyatt’s voice apologise for lateness, I felt a hand touch my shoulder. I tried minimising the instinctive flinch but something in Alexander’s eyes told me he noticed it.
“Wyatt?” I put my hand on top of his.
“Yes?”
“You’re not half bad for a shifter.” My hand tightened on his to the point of pain not allowing him to step away and my tone darkened. “So I’ll give you this warning just once. Don’t touch me again.” I stared at Alexander as I said my next piece, making sure he understood.
“That goes for any shifter while I’m here. I don’t like physical contact, if anyone touches me while I am here, I’ll break whatever part made contact. Understand?” With a final squeeze, I let go of Wyatt’s hand.
“Understood.” I could see the question in his eyes as he agreed.
