The looters poured in from outside the door. Hands extended towards us with vigor that we were running as fast as possible through the madness but more of them, armed with weapons of every type, appeared which scared us.
Linda and Andrew noticed our predicaments trying their best to keep up. They almost tripped under the clean floor but managed to steady themselves. Tyler, went to the right and closing off the possible routes of escapes or even block them out from getting in.
I realized one thing from Tyler. He didn't back down. The thought of escaping still clung tightly with him and it prove me wrong.
"Haa... there..."
What is it? What did he mean? I tried to watch the walls as we passed them by without stopping. It didn't occur to me until Tyler halted his steps.
"Haa... it's there... haa..."
The index finger of his, pointed its way to the right side of the wall beside us. It was almost invisible to us but Tyler managed to see it from afar or is it that he can feel it?
"No time to chat. Let's go!" Linda whispered harshly. She found herself staring down that wall, hidden between the similar-looking door.
I glanced over at Tyler and saw the unwavering look in his eyes.
"Don't tell me... the secret room is here?"
Without wasting a single second, I put my hands on the barely noticeable handle with the same color as the wall. A sliding door that I managed to open easily, thankfully it went without a hitch.
Not a sound was heard except for our ragged breathing as I pushed the others inside.
Then, the sound of footsteps passed us minutes later.
I took a few moments to compose myself while hearing the soft snore of the dog, closing my eyes and letting out a sigh of relief as they passed. The moment my eyes opened, it contained nothing but proudness of what my brother did to save us.
"Haa... you saved us, Ty." Andrew breathed heavily as he slumped against the wall.
"I thought we were done for, but still i'm glad to be alive at the moment."
We took our time to regain our composure whilst trying to comprehend where we were. The room which didn't have a light was shown partly due to the flashlight shining inside, breaking the darkness.
"Anyway, how do you find this room, Ty?"
"I felt that there's someone in this room."
It turns out true that we found a large stash of empty cup noodle that Linda found as we were investigating the whole room, looking for information in this room.
This was a room that only the director entered, slightly different than he imagined besides the messiness of room and randomly thrown objects.
I walked past the steel table and headed towards the center of the room.
"What is that?"
I heard mumbling from behind me. Linda got closer to it and standing beside me with eagerness. She brought out glasses and looked into it further.
There was a book inside of transparent glass box. A thick black book without a cover and untouched like it was a sacred object.
"It's a book?"
"Probably."
Linda's expression didn't change after hearing that. She had not seen any book encased in glass since she worked in the lab. It could be said that they all returned to their respected shelves for scientific reference in the future after it gathered dust after such a long time, however, there were no traces of dust or sign of being used.
She backed away a little and put up the bag above the glass as she reached for something inside.
The book that was covered in glass-like barriee was being smashed forcefully and quietly as possible. It was soon time for the book to be lifted by her hands but it didn't budge, not even a little.
"Maybe you should try open it?" Andrew suggested meekly. He was a bit taken aback by her sudden change of action.
I could feel my heart beating wildly, excited of what was inside. I saw the girl opened the cover and she was standing in front of the book with an odd expression.
"This is..."
I had never seen such an expression on her before. Andrew's face was completely unsure of what to do. Tyler peeked at the book with interest in his eyes and he went wide eyed as he looked at the big red button inside the book which was not the usual paper filled with a writings in a book.
The tips of Tyler's finger were confident as he pressed the button. The floor was shaking and leveled them down to bottom floor which resides under the secret room.
I can't help but let out a gasp that the small space of floor surrounding the book under our feet was replaced by another floor, completely covered us in the darkness besides our light still brightened the space of the moving floor.
I could hear the sound of the looters going inside even though I couldn't see them because of our current predicament. Those sounds were slowly getting far. I was a little thankful we managed to get away until we found what we were looking.
A safe place and how to get rid of the thing inside Tyler's brain. If possible, finding our family together.
"I never thought it's here..." Linda hushed quietly.
"Is this...?"
"Yeah. A private lab under the director's order."
