The place was exceedingly huge. An open space at the center that went all the way in the darkness was lined with doors, four in total. It was light up by the automatic lamp, enough to show the activity inside the room.
Large desk was placed in three section without any technology or chemical flask to provide us with information, but still enough with little amount of the papers left behind scattered along the ground.
"Don't go too far," Linda said sternly.
The first room I entered was quite empty than I thought. It looked like it had been ransacked by burglars but unfortunately that wasn't the case. They left in a hurry that desk and chair thrown aside for the sake of getting the document under many shelves.
So without anything worth to be noted, I moved to the other room and found Tyler holding his hands in his chest. I stiffened up, both eyes searching the room and realized something.
It was a lab, different from the room I was in before that looked like administration office. It focused on researching animals, considering the glass jar and experiment table.
A beakers, test tubes, forceps, pipettes, used lab coats and last but not least, medium sized strapping table. The smell was intoxicating that I scrunched up my nose and brought Tyler closer to me.
The thing is blood and rotten dog corpses that its mouth left hanging open. I saw a box of unused masks and took them with me, one was fixed the mask in Tyler's face and other was mine.
Nothing here besides that, the data or even records of it weren't there. I felt a weird feelings but pushed it aside and took Tyler out with me, only to find him still staring at the table.
I tugged him towards the door again and he clenched his teeth harder. I realized what he meant and looked to the dog which has been awakened just now even though we were shaking when running away from looters.
"I'm sure they die peacefully, Ty."
His eyes flee to me. He straightened his shoulders and walked over to me.
Plop!
He put his arms around me tighter as he sniffed quietly whilst the dog whimpered. Its name was unknown since nobody had known, not even Linda the closest friend to the owner because they rarely hanging out together.
It took a minute for my little brother to stop crying. I rubbed his back to cheer him up, it work a little seeing he eased up to me.
Neither of us said a word until loud sound coming from the other room, startled us.
Slam!
The dog barked loudly at the sound and follow the sound as it was getting louder and louder. We managed to reach the other room, source of someone slamming the table.
It was a room on the right side near the fourth room. The room was dark and dim light filtered in from outside the room which tinted the place in an eerie feelings.
Slam!
I noticed Linda slammed the table with her utmost strength available on her arms. I took a look at the room with white walls and metal shelves lining on both sides of the room.
In the middle of the long, rectangular room was a raised platform. On top of it and the very center sat a surgical table rather large than in the room before which was at the size of animal they experimented on.
Not far from it was a restraint chair which rather creaking from overused. Both of the objects had thick straps hung loosely, waiting to be buckled. Lightheads suspended from the ceiling, focusing directly on the platform.
That's not the worst part. Carts beside the chair, their trays filled with scalpels and syringes of various sized, vials and blood stained rags in little metal dishes.
"You know..." Linda said before stopping herself to look at the red color splattered on the floor. Some were old and some were newer and brighter than the rest.
"I never thought they did this to people."
She lifted her head to look at them and I knew she couldn't wipe the terror off her face.
"I already know about the other experiment on Tyler and the other kids but I honestly thought it was to improve their quality of life. I already knew how horrible they are ever since I heard about Tyler but this is unforgivable."
Regret lined her jaw, despair filled the intensity of her eyes as she looked away from us.
"Linda..."
She still refused to show her face for awhile and continued,
"There is no reason for scientist to commit research and sacrifice many lives for the sake of medicine, if that's even what they aimed for."
Tyler, seeing the two of us looked back and forth, tried to console Linda and she clutched her head even harder without looking at my little brother who called out to her.
"I need to find the bottom of this. I can't accept this while it is happen in front of my eyes."
The usually weird and unusually calm who helped Tyler before had reached her limits. It was because she was in a situation which was crueler than before the outbreak happened.
Tyler quietly looked at her again and didn't say a word. I heard Andrew called out to us from the other room and telling us to quickly come.
"What is it? It better be important."
He brought two folders. One was a map showing a lot of evacuation points and the other one was a record which was left behind. X-02 experiments.
"A record... I never thought they left it behind."
"There's pretty much nothing here, just a bunch of general conclusion in daily report," Linda smacked him over his head.
"This is a clue, idiot. How could you say it's nothing? It worth much than a bunch of empty room and flask."
"Umm... what are you two talking about?"
"This is a record of X-01 experiment."
I recalled a portion of what Andrew said before.
It was the part that was said to be the source of outbreak or in short X-01 experiment. But I thought it was erased.
"Apparently they still had them and planned to continue their research."
"What?"
