Ken was having a pretty odd morning. For some reason, the curtains that had been pulled inward to cover up any shed of morning light were uncovered. Ken opened his eyes quickly before immediately shutting them at the sight of the bright sun on his face. "Christ!" He shouted, covering his face with the blanket. When his eyes had only slightly adjusted, he looked over at the shadowy figure in front of the window...He stared groggily before remembering who it was.
"Adonael...Why are you in my room." He said, his voice muffled under the covers. Adonael smiled slightly. "My, how cute you are just barely waking up...It's seven o'clock in the morning! And as much as I would love to watch you sleep for a little while longer, it's time to get up!" he said, striding over to Ken's side of the bed. Ken didn't respond. He closed his eyes instead and ignored him. Adonael frowned a bit before grabbing the edge of his sheets and tugging at them harshly. The tug was strong enough to unravel the tucked-in Ken, revealing Ken in his sleep clothes, a simple white t-shirt and dark blue sweatpants. Ken gasped but groaned in compliance. "Fine! Fine..." He said as he got up.
He went to the bathroom and sighed, beginning to prepare for the day. Adonael followed quickly after him. It had been exactly one week since Adonael was in Ken's home. During that time, Adonael moved in with Ken, sleeping in the apartment's guest room. Every morning had started just like this one. Adonael would wake Ken up too early, flirt with him in the same manner, and force him out of bed. Ken still couldn't believe someone had gotten up beside him to wake him. He used to do that with Michael. Ken turned his head to Adonael, "Please stop following me. I have to get ready and read your agenda for today." He said, trying to get tired out of his eyes by washing his face.
Adonael huffed, "Fine...I will wait in the kitchen." He said as he made his way out. Ken scowled as he left the room. Adonael was...interesting. Unless Ken told him to go away, Adonael would always follow him. During work hours, it was the other way around. Ken remembered the time Adonael told him...What?? Adonael woke Ken up an hour early! He sighed profoundly but still made his way to get dressed. Adonael made it a point to dress as business formally as possible, which was lucky since Ken's old job had been business formal anyway.
Something that also happened during the week was that Ken quit his old job and started working for Adonael instead. It sure was strange, he had come into work with Adonael every morning at nine am, and Ken would follow Adonael around almost everywhere he went. He had his desk at the front of Adonael's office, and he dealt with many of Adonaels' clients that would come in and out daily. It was like any ordinary office job, being a secretary at a law firm. However, this job took place in a literal hell.
One thing Adonael forgot to mention on Ken's first day on the job was that on the way to their work, a secret train ran through old railways that would lead them to a portal of hell. Ken knew that Adonael was a weird guy, but he had no idea Adonael was an actual demon. On Ken's first day, he nearly had a heart attack and clung to Adonael for protection the whole way against the dark forces of the underworld. Adonael looked pretty pleased with himself that entire day. The bastard, Adonael, was a lawyer at his firm, "Hells Gate Law Firm and Legal Services." A relatively easy job required Ken to be by Adonaels side at all times. If not at his side, at the front desk.
After getting ready, Ken made his way downstairs. When they were home, Adonael seemed to take on the cleaning and cooking duties Ken used to have for Michael. Adonael would wear a funny pink apron, one he seemed to pick up since Ken would smile and laugh at him when he woke up in the morning. Even now, as he walked downstairs, Ken looked into the kitchen and chuckled softly. "You gotta stop wearing that apron...It does not suit you," he said as Adonael set a cup of black tea in front of Ken. Adonael smiled softly at him, "It makes you laugh. Doesn't it?" He said. Ken nodded. As purposely annoying as Adonael was, Ken was grateful that he was here. For some reason, Adonai was a comforting presence to him. Ken sighed to himself, "So, Adonael. I haven't asked, but...Why did you want me to be your assistant?"
Adonael looked up from his coffee and smirked a bit. "I mean...You had experience, didn't you? How would any other interview go if you had applied to another assistant job?" He said smugly. Ken narrowed his eyes slightly, "You know that wasn't what I meant...That doesn't even make sense cause I didn't even apply." Adonael scratched the back of his head, "Who knows then..." Ken had no idea why Adonael wouldn't answer his question. Usually, in stories when a demon would get assistance from a troubled person needing help, they had this whole plan as to why. But to Ken, it seemed like Adonael was doing this on a whim. But why would Adonael offer to help him find his brother's murderer then? It was all very confusing to him.
Adonael looked at his watch and gasped. "Oh shit! We have to go. We'll be late." he said as he ripped the pink apron off his torso. Ken finished his tea and quickly got up. He grabbed his briefcase and headed out the door with Adonael. As they walked, Ken would occasionally look up at Adonael. God, against the sun's perfect lighting, Adonael looked terrific. As said before, he had sharp, handsome features. He seemed younger than Ken, looking at maybe 26, but knowing Adonael; he was probably older than Ken. He had long black hair that was kept, unlike Ken's messy brown hair.
Ken was very attracted to his looks. But his personality?....
No way.
By the time they had made it to work, there were already people hanging by Ken's front desk. Ken would make some small talk with some of his coworkers and superiors, and honestly, he was happy to be creating relationships at work here. At his other job, everyone else would stay out of others' business. It led to a dull workplace, but it was almost like people had personalities. The first person Ken waved to was an average-height man with short dark blue hair and light brown eyes, Domencio. Ken smiled at Domencio as he got set up at his desk, "Morning, Domencio.." He said kindly. Domencio smiled back, just as brightly, "Hey, Kenneth. I see you're still coming in with the boss." He said, leaning on the desk. Adonael glanced at both Ken and Domencio...Ugh. He rolled his eyes, "Ken, come to my office in ten minutes. Tell me what I needed to get done for the day." He said as he walked past him and Domencio.
"Sheesh.Someone grumpy." Piped a more feminine voice. Ken turned to a tall woman with brown hair up in a ponytail and red eyes. Her face was more rounded, and she was very, very pretty. Her name was Ciarda. She walked over to Ken and patted his back, "Morning, Ken. I can't believe you have to deal with that all day." She said slowly. Ken had realized something when he first came to work. It was that Adonaels demeanor changed when there were other people around. Adonael explained that as a boss, you couldn't let your subordinates see you as a friend. Ken never got that, but he never questioned it. Still, it made Ken happy that he saw a side of Adoael no one gets to. A silly, kind, and annoying side. After talking to the two, they decided to the part when it was time for Ken to see Adonael.
Ken knocked on the large office door. He walked in once he heard Adonael's voice and stood right in front of his desk. Adonael gave a smile to Ken, "So? What's gotta be done today?" He said, standing up from his desk. Ken nodded, "You have a meeting with another law firm that wants to merge both offices. They want to become a partnership with you." He said, tapping his pen on his notebook. Adonael stared at him, "Which firm?" he asked. Ken looked at the name, "Um...Cthulu Legal Services..." He said slowly. Adonael frowned and slumped down on his chair. "God...Not them again. Cancel it; I don't want to go." Ken gave Adonael a confused face. "Don't you want to talk to them at least?" He asked. Adonael shook his head, "Don't want to. Waste of my time." He said, crossing his arms. Ken rolled his eyes.
Dealing with this man was going to be a tiring day.
