Adonael had always thought his interest in Ken was weird since the beginning. When was the beginning, you ask?
Let's go back to a year and seven months ago.
Adonael had left work that day, having recently fired his incompetent assistant, and he was doing much more work than usual. And usually, he would go home and sleep the night away till the following day; he decided he needed a change of pace. So he went to take a walk in the mortal world. Lately, Adonael had felt that, at this point, he needed to stop. Stop everything, stop working, stop eating, and live his life peacefully. But he knew it wasn't always that easy. He had to face the fact that he was bored. He was old, and he was bored.
As if something had heard him speak in his head, someone had bumped into him. Adonael gasped as he fell to the ground. He turned his head quickly, ready to EAT whoever just bumped him. When he turned, it was a young boy with many trinkets in his hand. He had messy brown hair and round gold-rimmed glasses. They seemed fake...The boy was very skinny and looked very harmless. The boy quickly grabbed his trinkets and looked at Adonael. The boy sheepishly smiled, "Ehehe. Sorry, sir! I was in a hurry to get home!" He said quickly. The boy got up and held Adonael and soon got up as well. Adonael dusted himself off before glancing at the boy. He sighed, "Be careful next time, would you?" He said, crossing his arms. Michael looked at the ground and bent down to pick up his stuff. "Sorry..." He said slowly.
Crap. Now Adonael felt terrible for this child he had just scolded. He sighed slowly before kneeling and picking up what was dropped with him. He stared at the things in his hands and...Oh my...This was just straight-up garbage from a dumpster. "Don't tell me I'm helping you pick up trash." He said, closing his eyes. He was trying hard not to lose it, but it was kind of hard when trash was in his hands. The boy glared, "It's not trash! They're reusable!!" Adonael stared at the broken lightbulb in his hand. "I believe this is called hoarding. What are you doing with this stuff anyway?" He said, helping him pick up the rest of the trash. The boy huffed, "I'm using them for an experiment. I don't have much money, so I get what I can with what I can find." He said matter-of-factly.
Adonael looked disgusted. What an interesting kid. "Well...Why don't you ask your parents to help you?" He said softly. The boy shrugged, "Don't have any...I've got my brother Ken though, and I wouldn't say I like asking him for much. Besides! If he's fine with me bringing in reusable parts I get from a dumpster, then It should be fine!" Adonael tilted his head. A kid with no parents? Yikes. He nodded. "Right. Well, do you need help?" The boy shook his head, "Nah, I've got it." he said as more of the small trash objects fell out of his arms. Adonael stared at him, "Alright. Gimme that!" He said as he grabbed some of his stuff. "Where were you planning on going?" He said slowly. The boy smiled, "My house!" The boy began walking. Adonael sighed and followed him. How weird. The kid was very, very trusting. "Are you sure you don't want me to help you halfway through?" Adonael said. 'Why would I? You're not dangerous." He said quickly.
"You don't know that. We just met. You don't even know my name." The boy stopped and turned to him. He smiled brightly, "Well. I'm Michael! What's your name?" He asked happily. Adonael looked confused but still. He told him his name. "Um...Adonael." Michael nodded, "Strange name. Anyway, let's hurry and go. My brother will be home soon." And Adonael followed.
Adonael was more than happy to set the trash down and wash his hands when they had made it to Michael's home. Michael smiled at Adonael. "Thank you! You were a huge help." He said. Adonael nodded and looked around the tiny house. Smaller than his home, but plenty more nicknacks. A picture caught his eye—one of a small ten-year-old and an older gentleman who looked just like him. Adonael felt himself widen at the handsome man in the picture. He seemed a little chubby in the stomach, but his arms looked very strong. His face was round, and he had stubble around his chin and cheeks. Adonael looked at Michael and then at the handsome man in the picture...How did Michael become so skinny? When his brother was way thicker than him?
Adonael stared at the picture, taking in the handsome man's view. His big smile was charming. Michael walked up to Adonael and smiled mischievously. "Hehe...He's single, you know..." He said. Adonael turned his head away quickly, "Oh...Why would I care?" Michael laughed a bit, "Well...If you're interested, I can always tell him!" He said quickly. "He always comes home, and he's so thoughtful of me. I wish someone would do things for him as he does for me!" Michael said. "That's why I'm going to make a lot of money one day and take care of him as he did for me! And then maybe get him a husband or something." Adonael looked over at Michael. He couldn't help but smile. "Heh...You're a good kid. Well. I should go ahead and leave your home. I've overstayed for too long." Michael pouted a bit. But he didn't stop him. "Alright...Hey! I'll see you around, okay?" He said quickly. Adonael smiled. "I'll see you around..."
How odd that he didn't need to show Michael he was a demon during that time. Usually, he would use his powers to make things easier, but he didn't want to scare the kid off. Oh well. He walked out of the home, but. He was curious about one thing. He wanted to see his brother one of these days. He began walking in the opposite direction of the train.
As he walked, he saw a familiar face in the crowd. It was Michaels's brother! The curiosity got the best of him. He did think it was weird, but...He started following him back to his home. He was fascinated with the man for no good reason besides a picture of him and a brief description of his personality. Still, though, as he knew this, he followed him.
For almost seven months before the date of Michael's murder, every evening when Adonael left for work, he would watch Ken leave his job and watch him go home. Adonael felt like he knew Ken without even having to meet him. He was attractive; Michael's description wasn't even enough to describe him. Not only was he kind, but he was also very hot-headed and stubborn! He preferred tea to coffee and went to the gym four times a week, mainly working on his arms and core. He loved victorian romance novels and going on walks with Michael. Adonael knew this was wrong, but...He couldn't manage to leave him alone. If Adonael had dared to meet and talk to him, he was sure Ken would feel the same. But nope. Adonael was content with just following him around for a while.
It was never until the day of Michael's death that Adonael finally decided to see Ken. Still...He waited a bit longer to see him.
He would be patient with both Ken and Michael.
