The Color Red

18~Mykie~

18~Mykie~

Dec 16, 2020

My eyes slowly started to open, a silhouette of someone stood above me.

"Victor?" I questioned, but as soon as the image became clear I realized that it wasn't Victor. It was a purple-haired lady standing over me. Her hair was slicked back in a tight bun and she wore all black clothes.

My first reaction was to panic. This situation seemed all too familiar. I didn't know who she was, but she started to scare me.

"Hush, don't worry, kid." She said while placing her hands on my shoulders. "I'm not going to hurt you, so calm down before you cause someone else to come in." I bit my lip trying to hold back my panic. "I heard a lot of commotion about a Red and I wanted to check it out for myself. All these other Purples and Oranges are too scared to go near you. But you seem like a regular boy to me." She smiled, cheekily, showing her white teeth.

"I—where is?"

"Prince Victor is still asleep. He should wake up in a few minutes or so." The lady furrowed her brows at me. "Look, I didn't mean to scare you. I was just gonna peak then head back out. It's just... you look so much like my boy back home. I got hit with nostalgia and stayed a little too long. I promise." I didn't say anything to the dark-skinned lady. "You really do remind me of my boy. His name is Zeak, a little 13-year-old kid. Training to be just like his mama. Aw, but he has a heart of gold. Couldn't even hurt a fly," the lady softly laughed. "I just hope one day he can serve the Blues like his mama here." I brought myself to a sitting position being careful not to hurt myself. "My name is Melanie, and I know, technically, I'm not supposed to be here. But if you ever need anything, kiddo, I'll be willing to help out. Even if you are a Red."

"Thanks, Melanie," I softly whispered.

"Well, I better run before I get scolded by Charles. That man may be good lookin', but he sure is fierce." The Purple waved goodbye and exited my room leaving me alone.

"She seems lively," I softly whispered. "Now where is Victor?" I wanted to get off the bed, but I feared I would completely collapse on the floor. With no one around, I didn't know when or who was going to help me. I bit my lip, looking around my room, waiting for someone to just pop out as Melanie did. I didn't like being awake and alone in the estate. I didn't like being alone in general. I didn't know where I was, and I was just scared overall. But when Victor walked in, I finally felt relieved. "Victor," I breathed.

"Someone looks happy to see me." He softly whispered, walking to me. "How long have you been awake?"

"I don't know," I said while looking around the room for a clock. "Not too long."

"Good." Victor moved my hair out of my face, giving me a soft kiss on my forehead. "I wouldn't want you to be alone for too long." I opened my mouth, ready to tell Victor about Melanie, but decided otherwise. If she wasn't supposed to be in there, then I didn't want her to get in trouble.

"Why do you looked so stressed?" I questioned, softly tapping Victor's forehead.

"I'm not stressed." He sighed then sat next to me. "Okay, I'm a little stress, but it's no big deal."

"I feel like it's a big deal. I feel like everything in your life is a big deal."

"Do you think my meals are a big deal?"

"Yes, that's probably the biggest one." Victor chuckled with a shake of his head.

"It's good to have you back, Mykie."

"It's good to be back, Victor." The prince softly nudged my shoulder with a smile.

"How are you feeling today, Champ?" Victor asked while slowly reaching for my hand.

"I could be better, a lot better. I just am a little drained." Victor let out a sad smile while he adjusted his blazer with one hand.

"Mykie, I'm sorry about yesterday. I got a little too defensive—"

"Don't apologize. You didn't do anything wrong. Everything was still a little hazy, and I felt weird being here. I know you were trying to make me feel better, but I couldn't see that." The prince sat as close as he possibly could to me letting his heat radiate on to me.

"I really care about you, and no matter what happens these next few weeks, I'll try and make sure you stay safe."

"I know you will. You are a very strong person." I softly nudged the teen who's smile began to grow.

"You think so?" He asked, a hint of excitement in his voice.

"Yeah, of course. My opinion might not mean a lot since I have never met someone new other than you, but you're like the strongest person I know."

"Since you're saying it, it means a whole lot," Victor said in a boyish tone. "You're opinion means the world to me." I simply rolled my eyes at Victor who thought he was so funny.

"You say the most funniest things." A few minutes later, Charles walked in followed by an orange-haired lady who held clothes and pushed a wheelchair.

"Good morning, boys. You two seem lively." Charles laughed, then took the clothes from the curly-haired lady. "I have clothes for Mykie' I think it's about time you freshen up." Charles looked at me with a small smile.

"Okay," I said meekly, while both Victor and Charles helped me onto the wheelchair.

"I can help... if you need help." Victor butted in while the maid began to push me into the bathroom.

"It's okay, Prince Victor, I will take care of the Red." The lady said with a big smile. I could hear Victor grunt in annoyance making Charles shake his head.

The not-so-happy looking maid brought me into the bathroom. I always knew that the rooms in all kingdoms were amazing. But I didn't know the bathrooms were amazing as well. It was bigger than my room in my apartment, probably the size of the room and the kitchen all in one.

A white and gold bathtub was placed in the middle of the room being raised on a small platform. There were two golden bowls for sinks on a white and gray marble counter. Multiple chairs were throughout the room with big mirrors on the walls. The toilet had a separate room big enough to fit four people in it.

"Okay, Red, now is the time to freshen up." She spoke, clearly uninterested in this whole situation.

"Got it." The lady left me to my own devices, sitting in a chair making sure I didn't fall or hurt myself (but she wasn't doing a good job seeing how she was grooming her nails). After I was done, or when I felt like I was done, the lady helped me changed and brought me back to the room where Victor was waiting. His eye immediately lit up as he saw me then looked to the lady who switched to being animated.

"Here you go, sweetie." She softly said to me as if she didn't act rude only moments before. After the maid left the room I looked at Victor with furrowed brows and a look of disapproval.

"Something wrong?" He asked as we both laid back on the bed I have been glued to.

"Not really, the lady is just odd."

"How so?" Victor asked while looking over to me.

"One second she's all grouchy and not happy and then the next she's all bubbly. If you weren't there she would probably have left me to do everything myself," I simply shook my head.

"Yeah, well they signed up to work for Blues, not to take care of an injured Red. Not to be mean, but half of these people don't even want to come near you."

"I already knew that," I said with a sigh.

"But do you really need some maid to take care of you?" Victor said while propping himself up on his elbows. "I mean, I'm here. Unlike them, I'm willing to take care of you." The teen said with a small smirk.

"I don't know, Victor, I'm not very sightly. I have a feeling you don't actually want to see. I still have a gaping hole on my leg and one on my side..." I looked up at Victor who seemed upset. "I'm fine though. It's not that bad." My voice trailed off as I told a blatant lie.

"We both know that's not true," Victor sighed. "Look, I don't care what you look like. Sure, there are a few black holes on you, but that doesn't mean I won't help you."

"You say this, but as soon as you see it, it won't make you pleased." Victor had to help me up as my "black holes" were really preventing me from moving. "Okay, fine." I gave in seeing Victor flash his bright blue eyes at me. "But that's if they let you help me. I don't know how willing they are for a prince to take care of someone."

"But it's you I'm taking care of. Out of all people only I should be qualified to help you."

"Not Charles? Not your dad?"

"You wouldn't even let them help you if they wanted to. They would end up calling me because I'm the only one who understands you. You know dog whisperers? Well, I'm like... the Mykie whisperer."

"Very creative," I applauded the Blue who's smile grew. "But I agree. I rather you help me than anyone else."
