"What the fuck?!" Violette's deep voice rang out. She watched as the two witches came crashing into her living room, knocking over an expensive teapot in the process. "How did you get here? I thought I had put a tracker on you!"
Eliza and Rose got up, rubbing their hurt backs and butts Rose picked up the book her friend had dropped. Then ealisation set in of where they had ended up, who they were facing. The one demon goddess that had started all this mess.
"I had it fixed," The girl started, trying to come across as assertive, "And I'm here to take Nora to Kumiho."
"Kumiho?!" Violette's face twisted into a scowl at hearing the name of the fox spirit. Nora, who had gotten up from the nearby couch, placed a hand on her girlfriend's shoulder.
"Yes! And tell me where Ino is!"
Violette sighed, already frustrated with these humans who dared to barge into her home like it was nothing.
"I'm not giving you Nora, but I'll give you the soul. She got on my nerves anyway."
She looked at the shapeshifter, who nodded back. Then she walked over to the cupboard she had stored the vial containing the soul. She picked it up and gave it to the witch.
"Here."
Eliza took the vial and studied it closely. She had expected it to contain something, but there was nothing. No liquid, no light. Empty.
"It's empty."
"What? That's not possible!" The demon goddess said, shocked. She was sure she had put that irritating soul in that specific glass bottle. She remember it took her a while to push her in.
Eliza glared at the woman and she felt an intense rage filling up her stomach. Something she hadn't ever felt before, something unnatural, tried to desperately escape, fighting with teeth and claws to be set free.
"You're lying! Where's Ino?!" The girl cried out, almost growling.
Clutching the Grimoire of the Void tightly, Rose watched her friend losing it. She had never seen Eliza like this before. Usually she was calm and collected, and knew what to do in stressful situations. She had even helped her failed coven to send back Violette. And now here, faced with this woman once again, she saw her falling apart, breaking, ruined. It broke her heart. In that moment she wished she could do something to make it better, but she was painfully aware that she was not strong enough yet to take on these magical beings.
"I told you, I put her in that vial!"
The witch lunged forward, but before she could reach her enemy, she fell to the ground screaming. Her eyes were wide in shock, her left hand clawing at her right, at the now reddened scars. Rose looked over to Violette and Nora, who where just as mystified by the sight in front of them.
A gut-wretching howl escaped Eliza's lips, and Rose was ready to turn around and empty her stomach, but instead stayed put. She placed a few steps forward, wanting to comfort the helpless mess of a girl on the floor, but Eliza caught her gaze and mouthed a single word. Don't.
Then things got worse. Eliza felt as if her arm was going to split open. And it did. Blood gushed out, all the while a gaping hole exposed the flesh that was usually protected by a layer of skin. Green light emerged from the wound, and Eliza, depite being utterly horrified by the situation, watched the small jade fox in her arm, grow. It grew until it was almost as big as a lion, and then it moved.
It shook its body awake, as if it had been asleep forever, and then suddenly jumped forward. Ignoring Violette, ignoring Eliza and Rose, its target was Nora.
"Nora!" The demon goddess reached for her Bound partner, but the fox was faster. It's teeth gripped the back of the shapeshifter's dress, and carried her like a mother lion would carry her cubs. A portal opened behind the jade fox, it turned on it's heels and disappeared through it.
"Shit." Violette cursed. Unwilling to do nothing, she picked up the two humans and jumped through the portal before it closed. Though she didn't like it one bit, she knew she needed these two witches to get Nora back. They were in on this shitshow somehow.
When they arrived at the other end and the portal closed behind them, Violette dropped the two girls and ran after the fox. There was no time to lose.
"Eliza! Wake up!"
Rose dragged the wounded girl out of the water. They were in someone's backyard, and they had fallen into a pond. Her clothes were heavy with water, and Eliza was no lighter either. Not to mention that she was unconsious.
"Damn it!"
Finally she was able to drag both of them on the grass. She looked over at the wound on Eliza's arm, and knew it needed medical attention, quickly.
"Can anybody help?! I need help!" Rose cried, not sure if someone could even hear her.
Afraid it would be too late if she didn't take action, she decided that she should at least try to stop the bleeding. She glanced at her drenched clothes and then to the pond. The water was fairly clear, she would take the risk. She ripped off a piece of her shirt and then cradled her friend in her arms, reaching for her wounded arm. Before she could continue, a voice spoke.
Don't.
Rose looked around, checking if she saw someone around, but all she saw was a red fox with something that looked like a basket in it's mouth.
"Who..?"
I'm the fox you're seeing.
The girl watched as the creature came closer.
"Are you talking in my head?"
You're picking up faster than the other.
Rose caught the fox looking at the girl in her lap.
I'll help you if you let me.
Though she didn't quite trust the creature for obvious reasons, the jade fox coming to life being one, she felt like there wasn't really an other option right now. Eliza needed her wound tended to, and fast.
"Alright, tell me what to do."
