Maria saw Alec’s mood suddenly dropped and went over to try to comfort him. “Mijo… I know how much you crave for their attention.” Maria said while caressing Alec’s cheeks, “But you know they always have unfinished work they need to complete.”
“I know…” Alec said, tearing up and thought Maria did not know how he felt. “But they always have Alex as their number one priority.” Alec wiped his tears and went over to the dining chair and took a seat.
“Take last Monday’s night for an example.” Alec remembered the incident and continued, “Alex was drunk in a nightclub and the bartender had to call my mother while she was working to ask her to get him back home. She immediately dropped everything that she was doing and went to fetch him.” Alec stirred the soup that Maria brought in a few seconds ago.
“How is that fair to me?” Alec sloppily scoop a spoonful of the soup, “Am I not their child as well?”
“You know why bud.” Maria said and started to pity Alec more than before, “Alex is going to be the next CEO of the company.” Maria went over and sat next to Alec and held his hand, “They need to train him now so that he knows how to run the company in the future.”
“Yeah, I know. But, ever since I can remember, they always give me this look that looks like they despised me.” Alec remembered all the times where his parents always gave him a disgusted look when he was younger.
As a kid, Alec would ask his parents to play with him after they had spent some time with Alex. But, his parents would always ignore him or ask him to scram and bother someone else. Alec is very persistent to at least try to have a good relationship with his parents. He has been putting in a lot of effort in his studies as well as soccer, which is his dad’s favourite sport.
Suddenly, the front door opened. Alec’s parents and their lawyers abruptly came in, “Come on, we don’t have all day.” Adam scowled at the lawyers and kept pushing them into his office.
“We will go in, in a few minutes. We have to talk to Alec first.” Julia said.
Alec was confused on why the lawyers are here. They were never in the house unless there was an emergency meeting. “But they just had a meeting, why are they coming back with them?” Alec thought.
Alec carefully watched his parents talking briefly about something with each other in their foyer. He has no idea what his parents are going to talk to him about. He can feel something is wrong but has no idea what the heck happened or what is going to happen.
“Alright, but are you sure that is what we have to do?” Julia asked Adam.
“We could just wait for another day or two to see if he comes back. You know Alex, he hardly comes home. But, always come back a day or two later.” Julia, who was nervous about the whole situation, said.
“I know.” Adam sighed, “But you saw his room, it is completely flipped over. Most of his clothes were missing and some were tossed on the floor.” Adam, who remembered how Alex’s room looked when he needed Alex help.
“I swear, if he decides to leave home and never come back, I will drag him back here myself.” Adam suddenly got mad.
“We have given everything he ever asked for and this is how he repays us, by leaving,” Adam said while walking into the kitchen to pour him some wine.
“What an ungrateful child.”
Adam has put in every effort he can to train Alex to become the next CEO of his company. He felt betrayed by his own blood and has no idea what to do now.
“I mean we could always train Alec to become the next CEO,” Julia suggested.
“If Alex doesn’t come back of course.” Julia didn’t want to say anything that could make Adam anymore mad, she knows what would happen.
“This piece of shit?” Adam pointed at Alec.
“Becomes the next CEO? He has been useless since he was a baby, what can he do?” Adam scoffed.
The next few minutes, there was an awkward silence between Alec’s parents, Alec and Maria. After hearing what Adam said about Alec, Alec didn’t know what to do. He started to get anxious about what is going to happen.
“Alex is gone?” Alec finally took in what his parents were talking about.
“But, if he is gone, he didn’t even say goodbye to me…” Alec drops his spoon and leans back into the dining chair. His best friend since he was a baby is gone.
“Alec, why don’t you go to your room,” Julia said.
“We have some stuff we have to ask Maria.” Julia didn’t give a second for Alec to respond and pushed him out of the dining room.
Alec didn’t know what to do and stood there dumbfounded. After a few minutes, Alec composes his posture, shook his head and went up to his room. He spent the rest of the day lying on his bed and thought about Alex and the memorise they made since young. He couldn’t believe Alex decided to run away from home and just like that fell asleep holding a picture of both him and Alex.
