Chapter 13
Quickly reaching over my shoulder I grabbed her hand without getting up from my seat. Slowly turning around, I glared at her.
“I must be mistaken. You didn’t just try and claw me, did you?” I punctuated the question with crushing her hand beneath my own till I heard the bones start to crack.
Slowly and carefully standing up, I flared my wings in agitation. I continued crushing her hand as she fell to her knees in pain trying to get her hand away from me. Just as slowly and as carefully, I bent down till my face was in front of hers.
“Did you?” I asked coldly.
The entire room was leant forward in their chairs watching what was happening with bated breath for her reply. No one spoke as we all stared at the female shifter before me. I could feel my family’s agitation and worry behind me but they were holding back from intervening. I tilted my head as I stared at the crying face in front of me.
“Don’t make me ask again.”
“I… I’m sorry.”
“Better.”
I stood up and released her hand which she cradled with her other hand. She looked up at me with hatred in her eyes but at that moment I couldn’t care less that I had made an enemy in this shifter before me. Without taking my gaze of her, I spoke to Alexander behind me.
“I warned you what would happen.”
“So you did.” His voice held no fury at me hurting one of the shifters under his care.
Giving the shifter one last glance, I turned back and went to sit back down. Out the corner of my eye, I saw the moment her hatred clouded her mind and she leapt up at me claws unsheathed once more. Before I had a chance to react, Alexander was standing in front of me holding the female shifter’s arm.
“Kneel.” The one word echoed across the room and I could see a few other shifters kneel themselves at the power in his Alpha voice despite it being directed at the female.
Her legs folded dramatically underneath her body as it reacted to the command. I could see Alexander almost vibrating with fury. Speaking once more without the added power, he addressed the shifter before him.
“Enough, Lena. I fucked you once, when I was drunk over a year ago. You are not and never will be my mate. That you would dare try and harm one of my guests, especially against my direct orders, in front of me. You embarrassed not only yourself but this Pack with your actions.” He leant closer to her, “I have no use for a shifter that will not follow instructions. You have one more chance but if you disobey a direct order again, I will banish you.”
He let go of Lena’s arm as she fell to the floor sobbing. Looking around, I could see that the other shifters were staring at her in disgust. I sat back down in my seat as Alexander commanded someone to take her to the medical wing.
You okay?
I looked across at Clay and smiled.
I’m fine, I enjoyed the distraction whilst we wait for our food. Pity she didn’t put up more of a fight though, its been a while since I’ve sparred against anyone other than you three. Tell everyone to stop worrying.
Alexander finally took his seat although it was clear he was still restless about the situation that just happened. Taking a deep breath, he looked up at us all.
“I apologise.” He tapped his fingers on the table in front him in an annoyed manner. “You shouldn’t have had to deal with that.”
I looked at him in confusion.
“Why are you apologising? It kept me occupied waiting for the food to arrive.”
My family all chuckled at my statement, knowing exactly what I was like, whilst the three shifters stared at me in disbelief. I turned to face my family and offered a questioning shrug and look which in turn just made everyone at our table burst out laughing again.
“Oh, I like this girl.” Laurie exclaimed whilst still giggling.
Still not sure why they all found the situation so funny, I was merely telling the truth, I shook my head as the food came out. As the food was placed in front of us, Alexander stood once more.
“Thank you all for joining us this evening. Just to be clear once more, these angels are guests and should be treated as such. They are here to assist us, and are under my protection.” He stared at all the shifters in turn before wryly stating “Although, considering earlier, I doubt they’ll need it.” A chuckle sounded across the room from the shifters. “Now, let’s eat.”
With that final sentence a cheer rose and all the shifters dug into the food on the tables. Looking upon the buffet laid out in front of us, I had trouble trying to decide what to eat first. Deciding just to grab a bit of everything, I piled my plate high with food. Looking around I saw that my family had the same amount of food as me although the shifters only had half as much. As we dug in, going in for seconds I felt stares on us. Meeting the eyes of the three shifters next to us, I rolled my eyes.
“Urm, not to be rude but-” I cut of Laurie’s softly asked question
“Yes. We always eat this amount. We burn a lot of calories.”
Finishing off our third plates each, we all sat back. I noticed that the shifters had finished a while ago, but I just sighed happily and closed my eyes.
“Flint, you’ve got competition.”
“Amen.” My family all agreed with me.
“Hey! Where’s the loyalty?”
I peeked open one eye. “It disappeared with that deliciously hot and spicy chicken.” Closing my eye again, I relaxed back in my seat.
All the other shifters had dispersed as soon as they were finished eating, ours was the only table that was still occupied. It must have been almost midnight, but I wasn’t tired yet, probably due to the fact I had passed out earlier. Sighing once more, I opened my eyes to see my family yawning. Smiling softly, I spoke to Clay.
Hey, you lot go on.
What bout you?
I’ll be fine Clay, you lot are dead on your feet. I’ll be up soon, I just want to chill for a bit before heading up.
He obviously told the others as they all looked at me at the same time. I nodded to them that I’d be fine. One by one they all stood up and excused themselves. Wyatt and Laurie followed suit, offering to show them the way back which just left me and Alexander in the room.
