The protagonist of the story is a progeny of the five races.
He is the only individual among all the mixed-race hybrids to have a lifeblood from all five races coursing through his veins. This made him the most powerful being on the world since he possessed all the other races’ great skill sets without the drawbacks.
Of course, that only happened once he awakened his bloodline.
Due to this distinctive quality, he should have been adored by numerous people. People who live in a society where strength is the foundation of everything ought to have revered and worshipped those who were able to use skills that transcended their limitations.
Unfortunately, mixed breeding is uncommon and frequently chastised by the same species. Having children that are not pureblooded is considered filthy and flawed. Many mixed-race couples live in seclusion or were exiled and never went back to see their kinfolk.
It's a widespread discriminating presumption, but it's not without cause.
Although being regarded filthy may have stemmed from unclean blood and a racial inclination for beauty, infants born from two different races are undoubtedly flawed. It is because a mixed couple's offspring have always been born with a poor physical constitution. It is because of a variety of factors, one of which is compatibility.
Imagine a majestic entity, like an angel combining with a ferocious werebeast. Their child will be born with an internal conflict of powers and will either die or grow up feeble. Those who have reached adulthood will not live even a quarter of a human's life expectancy.
Once, the Angels had fallen to desperation because of their low birth rate and tried doing some cross-breeding. It resulted in several fetal deaths, some weren’t even able to conceive at all. If ever a baby is born, the baby could only last a few months full of suffering to a year, then the body will gradually deteriorate.
Actually, all the races are reasonably compatible with humans because of the neutrality of their nature. It’s merely that humans’ innate limited physical abilities were unable to contain the strength of their races. But they could live longer as long as they could get supplemented by enough care and medication.
Well, if they could hide the baby well and nurture it away from the conservative people, that would kill hybrids without hesitation.
This is true, and Laurem's birth is also a product of this rare miracle.
To say, nobody expected that he will develop into a baby.
His mother was a prostitute, while his father was a high-ranking demon.
In line with the narrative, his mother was on the move in a caravan of female prostitutes when they came across some demons that were also using the same road but going in the opposite direction. It was unexpected and there was no time to flee.
Being very arrogant, the demons demanded an apology from the humans for obstructing their path, which was actually so wide that even five caravans could fit side by side. Since the people on the caravan were merely ordinary people, they immediately followed the orders.
They could do nothing but listen to whatever these despicable demons wanted them to do.
The demons, however, were not contented with their groveling and wanted more. Without paying to consequences, they grabbed all the livestock that belonged to a farmer. The farmer begged the demons for compassion, but was murdered straight away.
The people started crying their eyes out in fear at this point. Whatever they try, it appears like the demons will still kill them. They could only weep and mourn their unfortunate fate. The demons took pleasure of the sight as they brandished their weapons, killing whoever they deem distasteful.
It was then when they found his mother.
His mother, who had the elegance of a faery and the purity of an angel, immediately drew the attention of the demons. She was snatched from the caravan and was taken into the demon's leader’s bed chambers.
Even if they did not witness the incident, everyone knows what transpired that evening when there were moans and continuous sobbing — dreadful sounds that kept them awake the entire time while waiting for their turn to be killed.
However, for some inexplicable reason, the demons freed the woman the next day.
She was wrongfully accused of being a traitor when she returned alone. She was suspected of having a collusion with the demons and brought their family members to death. If it was a normal human, nobody would say such a thing. Who wants to be a part of this scumbag race?
But she was truly very beautiful, the one that could topple of countries and make men gift her the stars. It would be natural for people of the other races to fall in love with her solely because of her allure. Even the King of Faeries, who is known for evaluating people based on their appearance, would disregard her race and offer marriage if they met in this reality.
His mother was an orphan with no family to return to, so she stayed in town despite the abuse. When they discovered she was pregnant, the harassment increased further. She did not, however, dare to murder the infant. She always believed that the child was not at fault and could not take the heart to abort it.
She endured nine months of terrible treatment until she gave birth to a son.
She was relieved to see that the infant was mostly human, save for the two little horns protruding from his forehead. However, his thick hair can conceal this, assuring that no one will discover his peculiarity. She took careful care of her son, who she joyfully named Laurem, up to the time of her death three years later at the hands of the thief.
The protagonist was left alone in despair.
It is still too early for a child to live alone, but Laurem has shown that it is not. The truth of this world had already been imparted to him by his mother, so he did not waste time and confronted life head-on. He never sought help, since he was aware that his demon nature would not be tolerated by human society.
Laurem grew up and survive, and he became what he is right now.
Although his approach to dealing with his circumstances seems a little OP, that is how the protagonist is intended to be. Even if it wasn't said out loud, Laurem undoubtedly went through a lot of hardship throughout those years. It is clearly visible on his filthy clothing and bean sprout physique.
Even his face is barely recognizable.
Jin Wei stood by and watched as the gangsters beaten Laurem. Without a doubt, his eight-year-old physique cannot compete with the powerful grownups. He was curled up against the wall, blocking their kicks and punches with his arms and knees. Although he didn't cry, the little yelps that escaped from his mouth clearly conveyed how in pain he was.
He looked very pitiful in that state.
System 777 hovered around Jin Wei's head until it finally settled on his shoulders. It zoomed in on the incident taking place in the alley and followed the protagonist's figure. Like Jin Wei, System 777 merely sat back and casually observed the one-sided brawl as if it didn't matter whether the child was hurt.
Since it was merely a system, the emotion it felt was more or less nonexistent.
Jin Wei promptly remarked, "Seems like he is still too young to understand his potential.”
「En. According to the timeline, the protagonist will only be able to realize his ability when he reaches twelve years old under the supervision of a professional teacher.」
“Ah, the usual student-meet-the-teacher trope,” Jin Wei mused to himself. He propped his cheek with his one hand against his one knee, eyes shining with interest. “The fate using the stick-and-carrot method but favoring the protagonist later.”
Cliché plots are really easy to understand. Well, it is because the concept is too mainstream the reason why it is called cliché.
「The protagonist will meet his teacher in six months.」 System 777 reported. 「Before that happens, you have to finish your task.」
Jin Wei lifted his head and scratched his cheeks. He has never before heard the System give him a time restriction. The system ceased giving him time limits when he acquired the Mob Character Role, since he could do the duties for as long as he resided in that realm.
He asked, in a lazy tone, "I am given a time limit?"
「There is none but surely you don't want to spend more energy in following him across the continent once he got accepted by his teacher.」
"Well, that is true," Jin Wei shrugged.
It's already a pain in the neck keeping up with the protagonist—no, that’s not right. The protagonists are always a pain in the neck no matter what reason there is.
A/N: I agree. The protagonists are indeed a pain in the neck.
