May 22nd –
I’ve been on edge the last couple of days. I’m had nightmares of being snapped up or some “Little Red Riding Hood” scenario coming up. Neither seemed like a good idea to me. Hot Grocery Store Guy showed up at the store again today. He didn’t look at any of the merchandise like he normally did, he just walked straight up to me.
“Can I talk to you for a second?” he asked.
I wiped my now-clammy hands on my jeans. “Sure… Um…” I looked around the store for a quieter place to talk. The deli dining area was our best option. “We can talk over there.”
He didn’t say anything for a second. He just paced back in forth like one of our dogs when he was anxious to go outside and play.
“Are you okay?” I ask, tentatively. He ran his fingers through his dark curls. I suddenly felt the desire to run my fingers through his luscious curls but resisted. He looked like he had a lot of drama going on in his life. I like to read and watch drama, but live it? It wasn’t much my cup of tea. “So? What’s your name, stranger who needed to desperately talk to me?”
He chuckled and my tummy felt like jelly again. “My name is Sam, Katie.” I like the name, Sam. In stories, Sam was always the character you’d go on an adventure with.
“How did you know my name?” I asked. He pointed to my nametag. “Right. Sorry. What did you need to talk to me about, Sam?”
“Um…” His face reddened like a twelve-year-old boy ready to ask a girl to his first dance. It was cute. “Would you like to go on a date with me?”
I kid you not, the most beautiful man in the world asked me, the human equivalent of a potato, on a date. What is weirder is that I said yes. Oh shoot, that’s the doorbell. Sam is here! I will tell you all about our date tomorrow, I swear!
