Ten dollars? Only ten dollars! I can’t buy anything for only $10! I wish I could have brainwashed my mom and made her give me $100 instead! Then I could finally get that long, golden skateboard that’s been on display at Swift’s Skate Shop all month long. The thing looked great in the sunlight! It's worth $99, so ten dollars won’t do me any good. In fact, that isn’t a very good allowance, especially when I got all A’s on my report card!
Anyhow, no point in moping over $10 now; I had to find something I could use it on. There are plenty of stores down the market street, hopefully I could find something. A new pair of roller blades? No, those are $35. How about a new soccer ball? No! Those cost $20! Maybe I can try something at that new French Restaurant around the corner? A plate of French Meatballs costs $11.99! I couldn’t get anything! I just wanted the store owners to scratch off the price tags and write “$10” instead!
I know what you’re thinking, “Why can’t you just save the $10?” Well, I always lose my money! I dropped $12 at the park, I lost my wallet with $15 twice, and I let this boy at my school borrow $20, and he never paid me back! Come to think of it, I now see why mom only gave me $10; I’ve lost so much money. That’s why I need to use it before I lose this allowance.
That was it; I must settle for something small. No more toys for me; a seventh grader like me doesn’t play with those things anymore. I just wanted anything: an antique, a knick-knack, trading cards just something! The question is, where?
Then I noticed something strange. A new store just opened up. It’s right where the old cookie store used to be. It shut down only three days ago, so I wondered how this new store got everything set so quickly.
The place was called, “Gypsy”. It looked like a little gift store. The front of the building was painted green against a golden and brown sign. There were old paintings and little antiques on the display window. Hold up! This little ballerina figurine at the very front of the display costed only $6, a huge painting behind it was only $9, and a glass menagerie right next to the figurine was only $8! Everything at this place was so cheap! Maybe I could find something I liked in this store that’s under $10. I didn’t want the figurine, painting, or menagerie, but it looked like lots of things are sold in this store. I’m going in!
