I spent the next few days exploring the library with a step-ladder. It was crazy how much stuff there was in there. The library was conveniently categorized by subjects and dates (in chronological order), so it took me little time to build a timeline of events of this world's history. Using a long blank scroll, I started to jot down any significant historical events and changes that occurred in this world to analyze any trends. In terms of development and industry, this world had a similar pattern to mine, though the time it took for this world to achieve the same things was significantly lesser than my world. And I presume the reason for that was magic, a double-edged sword. Magic certainly does provide a convenience for many things but it is also holding the world back in other ways because the people rely on it too much. This world is a great world for people who can use magic, but for those who can't, which are a huge majority, this world is built in way that inconveniences them. The imperial library for example, can only be properly accessed by magic users, because they can get books from any part of the library, but it isn't built in such a way that allows normal people to even get books from higher shelves. That's why, when comparing technological advances and industry in this world's history with my own, I notice inconsistencies, blank spaces waiting to be filled because no one thought about these pinnacle ideas due to the convenience of magic. For example, this world has no way of convenient transportation that doesn't involve magic. There are teleportation portals available at high fares to travel between cities and kingdoms, but for commoner with no magical aptitude, the travel is long drawn and by horseback. And what if they don't even have a horse? There's no such thing as cars yet, heck, they don't even have bicycles here.
The thing is, as much as I would like to deny it, my position as a princess is still rocky at best. If I don't play my cards carefully, I might end up getting Armand or the princes to go against me, which could kill me or get me banished from the palace. Then what would I do? It would be one thing if I developed magical powers but if I don't, I'll end up being a beggar on the streets, in a world that lacks the development to give me a comfortable life. That is my main reason for wanting to change the world. I have to make this world a better place for the common person, because one day, I could end up becoming one. The nation is only as good as how the poorest live, so this nation is shit by all standards. I have to survive in this world, in the only way I can do that is by changing the world into one that favours me. I have to get as powerful as possible and build this world with my own hands into one that I will be safe in, and others as well. So after analyzing the history of this world and comparing it to my own, I formulated an action plan of changes I have to make to make this world a better place.
"I knew I'd find you here!" Ciel says, prancing towards me. "I haven't seen you for a while, you haven't been coming to eat breakfast lately, what are you up to?" He says this cheerfully, eyes glinting at the sight of the sprawled out scroll on the floor.
"Brat! Good timing!" He scrunches his nose in disapproval. "I needed you to deliver something for me." I hand him a sealed envelope addressed to Ezra.
"I'm not your errand boy..." He pouts but looks at the letter in interest. "What is it for? Are you planning something with Ezra?"
"None of your concern. Just deliver it for me."
"I thought we were partners, partners share everything with each other." He said, lips pursing even more.
"Not everything." I say, getting a bit flustered at the cute puppy face he was making. "Not secrets."
"They especially share secrets." He whines, getting more impatient.
"Oh, is that so?" I say, an idea popping into my head. "Ok then. I'll tell you about the letter, but you must tell me a secret as well."
"Ok fine, I'll tell you anything you want to know! I'm an open book." He says with a wide smile, excited. Oh? I wonder how your words are gonna taste when you eat them?
"Is that so? Then please do tell me, what powers do you have exactly?" His smile twitches, eyebrows scrunching.
"Powers.. ha ha... I can use levitation and fire magic–"
"That's not what I meant, I mean what are your own special abilities?" He hesitates. "I heard you can control other people. Is it some kind of mind control? Hypnosis?"
"It's, uhh.." He clears his throat.
"I thought you said partners share everything, especially secrets." His eyes dart around the room nervously.
"If I tell you, you promise not to tell anyone?" This kid was more naive than I thought.
"Yes yes, I promise."
"Not like that. A blood pact."
"Excuse me?" He rips out a small blank section of the scroll and removes the ruby brooch that was pinned neatly on his shirt, above his heart, and pricks his index finger with the pin. Using his bleeding index finger, he draws out a circular pattern on the paper and hands the pin and paper to me.
"Just one drop of blood would do."
"What?!" I was flabbergasted.
"A blood pact, I drew the magic circle so all you have to do if drop some of your own blood on the circle and whatever things we promise to keep secret between us must be kept secret or else the person who breaks their promise will die a painful death."
"That sounds illegal!" I shriek in surprise. "Is that not illegal?! What kind of magic is that, black magic?! You didn't say you can do black magic, is that your special ability–" Ciel grabs my hand in annoyance and pricks my finger with the pin, swiping the paper against my bloody finger. "Ouch! Gosh darnnit!" I began smacking him with my other hand in a fit of rage. "That's no way to treat your elders, you brat! Did your mother teach you no manners!" I continued hitting him, balling up my tiny fists and pounding on his arm. He didn't budge a bit but found my reaction rather funny as he watched me fuss around. The magic circle on the paper shines brightly as it activates and the paper flashes a bright light and disappears into thin air. I stop hitting him from the distraction.
"The blood pact is in effect now." He said, with a brief sigh of relief.
"Ok so now what?"
"Promise to me again you won't tell anyone about my abilities, when you do, the blood pact will activate and you will have to keep it a secret if you don't want to die."
"Ok fine, I promise to keep your abilities a secret." I said, giving into his demand. Who would I tell anyways?
He smiles in relief and then fidgets uncomfortably. "Ok but...It's a bit embarrassing..." He lifts up his hand and holds it in front of me. Muttering some words underneath his breath, he kisses his palm and blows the kiss towards me.
"The fu–" I feel a sense of euphoria wash over me suddenly. My body feels like it's floating, my hand tingled in pure bliss. My heart was overjoyed in happiness, the world seemed brighter.
"You see, I have the ability to use pheromones..." He says bashfully.
