"My old man wants me to go to a college in the city." Aurelio's neighbor Marcus dejectedly announces, dribbling the basketball on his hands. They're in a field behind his house playing basketball with a basket made by his father.
"That sucks. My condolences." Josiah remarks jokingly as he guard Marcus. Marcus makes a sudden move, passing the ball between Josiah's legs, but Josiah's prepared for it and instantly blocks it, snatches the ball and makes a three-pointer. The ball passes through the net. Josiah grins widely as he makes a victory dance and immediately insults his friend like always. He points at Marcus's annoyed face, "Saw that, motherfu***? You suck. Come praise me, bit***." Then he makes another victory dance, completely ignoring how uncoordinated his limbs are.
Three insults in one sentence, this guy is really something.
"Fucker." Marcus lowly curses. "Can't you even give me a chance, Jo? Jo-gege~" He speaks with a high pitch, like some eager little girl, and he even adds puppy eyes to it.
With him being the tallest in their friends circle, with biceps somewhat visible and his overall acting of some shy little lolita, it really is unsightly.
Josiah thinks so too. He cringes, "The fuck? What's with the Chinese, man? You look like shit."
"Appreciate it."
The two continue bickering in the field. They see each other every time and yet they never forget to insult the other. It's a habit they don't want to let go of.
Aurelio's at the back and he saw the whole interaction. He has always been there. It's when they started bickering did he slip to the back, took his water bottle and downed it. This often happens. Marcus and Josiah would ask to play with him, have fun for a little while, then the two would start bickering and they wouldn't even notice that Aurelio's still there. Aurelio tried to stop them for the first few times, but it didn't budge. So he just simply ignored them and enjoyed the show.
He's such a great friend, isn't he?
In fact, Aurelio does know that it's harmless. Those two excuses of humans, which happen to be his best friends, can never hate each other. He is sure of it.
After a few ungodly minutes, the two finally stop wrestling. It's then do they only notice that Aurelio isn't beside them. They see him climbing trees after trees, searching for who-knows-what, and then he would laugh a few too many times to be normal. The squirrels are in rage but they can only watch as a wild human cause an earthquake to their homes.
Marcus and Josiah look at each other. Marcus has a fed up face, while Josiah is cackling and holding his stomach.
"There he goes again. He doesn't even like apples! Why does he keep picking them?" Marcus states. His hand's on his face, as if embarrased to even see his best friend with his weird habit. They are even behind his house. He swears if his father sees this young man ruining their trees, he'll...... he'll.. definitely tickle that guy to death.
A sigh comes out from his lips.
"Let him, let him. You know he likes giving that stuff to donkeys." Josiah's voice and eyes are filled with amusement. It's obvious he is enjoying it. If it's because of Aurelio's behavior or Marcus's annoyed face, he doesn't know.
Marcus, "I forgot to tell you. The village next door will be having a feast this Saturday, and anyone who wants to come can come."
"I'll definitely be there, Mickey. Let's pick that guy up too. He's been wanting to go out."
"Quit with the nickname, damn it." Then Marcus chuckles, "That guy always wants to go out. Let's go. It's my mother's birthday, you should come." Lifting his body up from the ground, he suddenly starts running away.
"Yo! What about Lio?!" In response Josiah also runs in his direction as he shouts. He looks to the side, and Aurelio is still not done ravaging the poor greeny beings, disturbing them with his bare hands.
"Let him! He will definitely be in the woods for a long time."
He has a point. Josiah shouts loudly to the forest, "LIO, WE'RE HEADING BACK!". The woods is silent. Silence means yes, Josiah believes so, so he continues running towards Marcus's other house with him, occassionally racing their feet out.
Inside the forest, Aurelio's already standing on the ground, fortunately stopping him self from climbing another tree. The forest is quiet as per usual because no other people, except for the young ones, venture in to this mysterious paradise. Aurelio and his friends are one of those young ones who like to defy rules. It's youth nature, what'd you expect?
The sky is dimming and the afternoon is probably ending. Aurelio's hands are on the sides of his waist, trying to even his breaths and calm his heart from the activity he just did.
Then he notices something. He squints his eyes. A tree not far from him has something on one of its leaves at the top. Aurelio takes a step back to have a better view, but he didn't expect that the ground behind him isn't actually one and so his feet slips and he falls.
His eyes widen. It's a trap!
Dried leaves are covering the entire forest floor, so it's easy to lay a few traps for the livestock. He completely didn't notice.
Fortunately, the trap he fell in to doesn't have spikes like some people make, if not his body would already be ripped to pieces in an instant. He sighs in relief.
But now, how does he get out of it?
Aurelio stands up. The hole is quite big. It's atleast seven feet high. The hole doesn't have anything else aside from itself, so what Aurelio landed on is mere dirt.
First, he tries to climb by holding on to the opening. He struggles and his hands ache, but he still didn't make it. He tries a few more strategies for the next half of the hour but all of it are in vain.
Aurelio steps back, sweat coating his forehead as it cascade down his skin.
Just then, he hears footsteps.
His eyes brighten. Finally! There's someone nearby. He has to get this chance. So he shouts, "Hey! Is someone there? I need help!"
The footsteps stop. He tilts his head.
Then it reoccured. When that someone is finally just around the hole, Aurelio looks up and is planning to speak once again when his eyes land on two orbs in light hues.
He pauses.
The face of the other person looks down at him, and he is also slightly taken aback by who he is, but his face immediately hides that.
It is Enzo Phillips.
Aurelio curses in his heart. In this wide range of land, how unfortunate is he to bump into his mortal enemy?
Tension stuck to the air like glue, and in that quiet forest, the two mortal enemies stand glaring at the other, clearly having no intention to be the one to retreat their gaze first.
That is until Enzo moves.
