“Esos gilipollas traidores!”
Jarl and Áesta jolt as something gray wizzes passed their heads. It embeds itself into the snowy ground like wrath itself and looks eerily similar to a gravestone when the dust to dust settles.
There’s no comfort when they realize it’s actually the Lay Tablet.
(How angry must Manus be to toss THAT?)
Jarl’s answer sort of comes when the mage himself storms after the slab of stone. He’s still cursing in Spanish, raging against and about the traidores (whom Jarl suspects are the Elders Manus and Áesta had mentioned), and seething almost to the point of vibrating with irate magic as he moves like a wraith towards them.
The priest suddenly feels [fear] the urge to move.
“Hwat t’ey do now?” Áesta asks before he can, apparent fearlessness rooting the holy man to his spot. Flabbergasted, the youngest of the group can only watch in horror as Manus’ eyes alight on them.
They are ablaze.
Jarl prays.
~
“They never said Bailecastle was off limits!!!”
“Hwat?” Jarl’s glad Áesta asked it because his voice isn’t quite working right now. Between a literal daemon and a vexed magician, Jarl stands no chance of survival if he talks—even if he does have superpowers.
“Bailecastle has been blacklisted by the Elders—without a maldito palabra!!!”
Áesta shifts, suddenly looking uncomfortable. “… ‘Cause o’ t’e prophesy?”
“They said letting anyone go there would be too dangerous!!!”
“And yet they let Red take Jasey there?” Jarl frowns, confused. The thought of Jasey brought back his voice but sadly knocked back his wisdom: that might have been one of the dumbest things he’s ever said.
He really needs to work on his timing.
Still, Manus pauses, eyes narrowing. “… No… They didn’t…” The mage straightens, assuming a thinking pose, and Áesta settles down beside Jarl with a quiet huff: he sounds both relieved and impressed (somehow).
“T’en maybe t’ey’re jus’ being eejits: hwouldn’t be t’e first time t’ey fergot ta tell ye somet’in’.”
The magician begins to nod before suddenly stiffening, “Unless…”
~
“They didn’t forget.
“They did it on purpose.
“They kept me in the dark!
“They malditos tricked me!!!”
